I think most of us get this...it just sucks that this is the turn television has taken. The "let's just plug all the programming holes with news" way. Yes tv is a buainess, and I'm all for profitablility, but the all news all day trend with no effort into alternative programming is extreme. Especially in the age of cutting the coard it would be nice if there was good stuff to watch on broadcast but I suppose that's what streaming is for. Anyway this issue is beyond WABC.

Yeah WLNY 10 or 55 would have worked. I would highlight the letters NY in the callsign logo to draw reference to the city. I'm surprised that they didn't call it CBS New York+ or something given that they're deemphasizing channel numbers. I do think the stations kinda need to diversify their styles because we have a plethora of local outlets with nearly identical presentation.

No, your original post had valid points. Yes daytime television can be background noise, but there seems to be no effort into making it watchable (while making a profit) these days. Broadcast TV is increasingly becoming a wasteful abyss of programming and it's okay as a viewer to speak on it.

Ancient history, but I always wonder why they never gave Chuck's co-anchor spot to Pat Battle. She's filled in before, she's personable, and she's experienced. she's great on Saturday mornings, but that would've been a good consideration.

Interesting. I haven't seen a station air B&B other than at 1:30 or 12:30

I'm wondering how WABC will fare trying to do a lighter broadcast, but then I remember they produce Kelly and Mark, so they should be capable. Sooner or later, local stations are going to have to find more creative ways like the olden days to feel empty timeslots other than news/light news shows. Local talk shows (which already exist in some markets) are a start.

looks like HLN is similcasting CNN This Morning's hurricane coverage today. Has HLN been doing this similcast regularly?

If it's a lot for one weathercaster to handle everything between 4:30 am and noon, I would imagine it's even more for the anchors who are on screen more. I like WNBC's arrangement which has the Midday anchor be seperate from the AM and Evening anchors. I think the simplest arrangement would be Team A: 4:30-7am, GMA cut ins & 10 am Team B: 12,4,6pm Team C 5 & 11pm.

Don't know if this was ever posted here. WDIV formerly WWJ, released a documentary on the history of the station. It was refreshingly trasparent and honest about the station's strengths and flaws. Graham stations look really good compared to Nexstar, Sinclair and Gray.

I would reference a 62 just for traditional viewers to be able to find the station. Yes, 62 is not the 'sexiest' number for a channel brand...but it's unique.

Hopefully! I love that they've kept the same theme (and largely retained ALOT of talent) over the past twenty-odd years. If they ever update the theme, I'd like them to use some rendition of Cool Hand Luke again. I wish it had stuck around like WPVI's Action News theme.

Mike Wallace filling in on the CBS Evening News!

CBS Sunday Morning - Will it Ever Go Back to Live?
MediaZone4K replied to Jascarter's topic in Network News
Why did they stop doing the Almanac as a video with tracked narration? It's just still images with onscreen text now. Now: then: -
Looking at this as humanly as possible, I don't mind stations covering the ceremony every year. I do believe the reading of every name will have to be shortened. Perhaps they can amend the ceremony to have a few families and officials give breif speeches each year?

They might as well let Dick and Dana anchor ---if Dana wants to stay that late.

Following the 20th Anniversary of the NE Blackout here is CBS Evening News from 2003. Peter Jennings was in Canada, so Ted Koppel anchored ABC News' Special Report
-
I know we hate anchor line up proposals but the simplest arrangement: AM & 10am -Mike & Shirleen Noon, 4pm, 6pm David and Liz 5&11pm Bill & Sade

If that's the case, then that makes sense. But I do see GH on at 2ET in several markets.

In this age of cord cutting cutting, this could have been an opportunity for broadcast networks to regain some strength (if not for streaming). Sadly we're running out of syndication options. It's went from too many talk shows to not enough. With the boom of excessive newscasts, gone are the days when you could keep your TV on a local station for hours without changing the channel. I'm sure station executives don't expect the same audience to sit through big news blocks like 4 to 6:30 PM. They're most likely banking on a different audience tuning in at the top or bottom of news hours.

Don't get me wrong. I love my General Hospital at 3 PM rather than 2. But ABC News is always quick to preempt it so I'm surprised the O&O's care enough to keep GH at 3 o'clock and not push it up an hour to collect the ad revenue. Yes, which is why I'm surprised they didn't just leave Tamron at 10, push General Hospital up to 2 PM and do a 3 PM newscast.

So the 10 am will have two meteorologists, or will Dani fill in for Sam when he's off on Fridays? Is Brittany also working with Sam on the AM or is she his Friday fill in? This press release have been worded a little more clearly. My SPECULATION is that Brittany is his morning show substitute, and Danny is his 10 AM sub for when he's off on Fridays. My question is will the 10 AM be a straight newscast or a fluffy morning show? From what I've seen however, CW and Fox stations with their own news departments (not newscasts produced by a big 3 affiliate) are better at pulling this kind of format off. In the case of PIX 11 with a straight news block from 4:30-11am, a 10 AM newscast makes sense. For ABC 7, a 10 AM sandwiched between syndicated programming at 9 and 11 AM, followed by a full hour of news at noon feels odd. I figure they don't want to mess with Kelly&Mark or The View's slots, so why didn't they follow the West Coast trend of a 3 PM?
