WNBC Post 9/11 Thanksgiving Day Parade Pre Show (2001). Had no clue Audrey Puente used to work on NBC 4. Is Jane Hansen still there? When she hosted LX New York I had no clue she used to be the TINY anchor, hardly recall her referencing it. YouTuber assembled a compilation of videos about the '94 broadcast TV realignment. Would station executives would be so eager to switch from CBS to Fox today? I always thought a big 3 affiliation was the gold standard.

Not counting Deco Drive. It's surpising to me that a vibrant area like Miami, there is no fluff morning newscast. Almost every station in both Miami and overlapping West Palm Beach has a 9am show, and they are all hard news. SVN being a tabloid brand is in the perfect position to do that.
-
Which goes to the point that if they are willing to put either Joe or Sandra on a weekday slot, age is not a factor. Sade moving --not that it's going to happen--is not implausible because didn't Liz Cho get moved from the 11 years ago? My line of thinking was, if Bill goes, who will be Sade's co anchor. Do they keep Sade on at 5&11 and add Joe as you suggest, or would they keep a Sandra and Joe pairing intact, or do they get someone different all together. Your suggestion seems to be more likely than mine as Sandra is apparently on the noon now. Anyway, it's all speculation. Time will tell what the station will do.

Yup. I have yet to see their 10 AM hour. Is it hard news as well, or does it have interviews and fluff?
-
I predicted this testy responce from you but I went for it anyway, lol. To be fair, you are also dealing in fantasy line ups if you are theorizing quote: "Sandra could slot in at 4 or 5 or wherever they chose". Whenever moves and shifts are being discussed, it's natural to think about who could fit where . So aversion anchor line up sorting is unwarranted. I don't share this supposed "precious belief that long term co-anchors can't be broken up". I say move them to the weekdays because they are a strong well known team to replace Ritter, not simply because they have been together long. You have a valid point about age, BUT If that is a factor, why not just leave Sandra on weekends?
-
When that day comes, a Joe & Sandra team would fit perfectly on the weekday. But what about Sade? Noon David & Liz 4 David & Sade 5 Liz & Sade (dual female like when Diana was there) 6/11 Joe & Sandra
-
Then there is WSVN method. Re-runing the 11pm news at 4:30 am. Also not the worst idea. After all, most content between 4 & 6 am is a rehash of yesterday's news.

As deserving as Sandra is of a weekday slot, I would hate for them to break up her and Joe for this. Is Liz Cho not an option?

The talent are beginning to complain now. Across YouTube, I've seen multiple videos where news reporters like Sophia Espinosa (WAND) and Clancy Burke (WKEF) are citing exhaustion from the early morning shift as a leading reason why they've left the industry. WABC's Derek Waller even left his self-professed dream job at the country's top rated station because of the shift. So what's an alternative to live news? WMAR's 4:30 AM newscast has no live anchors or reporters, just packages ran successively, with the reporters introducing them. The only live element was weather. The anchors and reporters came in live at 5AM. Someone informed me that this is common on Scripps stations. Putting aside that WMAR is a weak station, is this format a good alternative to live news at 4/4:30 AM?
-
EDIT: Waller is the latest reporter I've seen cite early start times as a reason for leaving the industry. But what is the alternative to live news at 4:30 in the morning? I've seen WMAR go without anchors and reporters for that half hour, just packages ran successively with reporters introducing them. The talent comes in live at 5am. Is this a viable alternative?
-
This is the simplest format. On the other hand, I dont want to sound like a hater but, Kori is not all that to be on weekday evenings. With existing staff: 4:30-7am Craig & Vanessa 7-10am Dan & Hazel 10-11am Marysol & Alex 4/6/6:30 ?? Insert your choice 5&10pm John Muller & Shirley Chan With Ken as suggested: 4:30a Craig & Vanessa 7a Dan & Marysol 10a Ben & Alex 4/6/6:30p Ken and Hazel 5/10p John & Shirley

Sad to hear that she's battling this again. Hate to see these things happen.

WNJU Moving in with WNBC at 30 Rock (Fall 2023)
MediaZone4K replied to B2r4a6n's topic in New York News
Im curious to what the WNJU side of it will look like, but Telemundo 47's current set looks pretty good. My major gripe with WNBC's new set is that's it's barren --- a box of video walls with no physical trinkets. Not to stray too far from NBC but I came a cross WPIX from the 2000s, and it dawned on me how I miss layered, physical, tv sitcom like sets for the news. -

Where would you all put WNBC's new set in comparison to the other NYC station's sets? I'd put it at third place in the market. WCBS is the best followed by WPIX, WNBC, WNYW, a ring light with a tripod in my living room, then WABC as the bottom of the barrel. Not to fond of the updates to WCBS though. -
I see your point because in other big markets, like Miami, the stations are not located in the city proper. However Stamford, Connecticut would be a tricky situation for a homebase when the majority of coverage in the New York market happens within the five boroughs. In NBC's case, Rockefeller Center is too iconic and tied to network identity to give up. ABC (minus GMA Times Sq) and CBS headquarters are interchangeable and I'm sure the audience could care less. What I question is: do stations keep a bearu in Jersey or CT because of the large coverage area? If not, the city, specifically Manhattan is a central location in the tri-state area from which to send out crews etc. But to your point, there is no reason why the stations cannot have a homebase in Queens, Brooklyn, or maybe even the Bronx, perhaps Jersey near the city. (Staten Island no because of inaccesibility).
-
Broken record but the flagship NYC stations keep getting the short end of the set design stick.

Both are very fair points. It's hard to be a public figure who'se job gets into peoples personal lives, and then demand absolute privacy with your own. But even still, there is also a line between what you choose to share and what you choose to keep private, Robin's Bachelorette party was also my go to example.

I think this is an industry problem today. One or two asks a question or is upset about something and media coverage ballons the matter into a larger issue than it really is.

Didn't see the news about Blair. Definately looks like him, and I can also see why the person in the comments thought it was Buck. Being that it is established that Blair is coming to 46 I wonder why Gables didn't just outright say it. Probably just to make the post more interesting.

Legitimate news outlets are beginning to question why Michael Strahan has been absent for two weeks from GMA and Fox NFL Sunday regardless of his jobs citing personal reasons. https://people.com/michael-strahan-misses-good-morning-america-due-to-personal-family-matters-8391576

WTVJ's set is waaaay better than WNBC's former and new set. But totally agree that WNBC is lackluster for market 1.
-
Hopeful for some mixture on the evening shows. Tamsen could fit on a light flare newscast like Good Day New York.

@DMA 3C was the best set they had since vacating 6B and I still don't understand why they went to 3K. This new set is nothing remarkable, but it looks better than their last set, and it looks miles ahead of WABC. As for being DMA #1...none of the the NY O&Os, which are supposed to be flagships, look better than their station group peers. Just look at WTTG vs WNYW, or --NBC related---WNBC compared to WTVJ:

I like the clean portrait effect on national outlet reporter standups. But if the entire point is to be live in front of something, it defeats the purpose to have the background be blurry.
