  1. If anything they need to shorten Today and improve the 7-9 block. The content is already dumbed down enough in the first 2 hours, even worse in the following two. IMO, networks need to adopt a less is more attitude given how satuarted the market is, and how much quality seems to be suffering in the name of quantity (especially cable news).
  2. Pat Harvey!!
  3. Wish I'd have caught this Live. Its always interesting when the newscasts are forced to improvise in situations like this, to keep the show going. You almost counldn't tell the difference as the LA studio looks almost (if not) exactly the same as New York's.
  4. It made no sense for him to leave GDNY, unless he was forced out, still unclear on the circumstances.
  5. The warm lighting looks good, compared to the washed out HD of the other stations. If anything WCBS can at least boast about their studio.
  6. Why has GD Wakeup has such a revolving door of anchors over the years, compared to the 4:30-7 slot on the other stations?
  7. MSNBC & Fox included! They aren't prizes either, but apparently obsessive and endless Trump coverage works in their favor compared to CNN. IMO It would be interesting to see a hard international focus on CNN compared to the America focused coverage on most US news media.
  8. On the subject of WSVN, though the tabloid style is not my favorite (hello GMA) the way WSVN delivered the format in the 90s and 2000s really showed why they dominated South Florida. The hype they brought to the news, especially with music and sets, was unignorable. Their news output is overkill however, imo, but it seems to work favorably for them.
  9. Lester is a solid evening/morning host and brings a great hard news presence. As for Nightly News, I liked Brian Williams in the chair more given his narrative style of delivery. No matter who is hosting, Today (GMA included) needs to dial back the silly human interest/pop culture stories and get back to it's pre 2013 tone.
  10. Hopefully 'Today' improves in the 20s. I liked seeing Hoda anchor with Lester this morning. That might be a solid paring with Al on weather, Carson on entertainment, and perhaps Savannah at the news desk.
  11. WABC is solid! The only thing I wish they'd work on is thieir studio and graphics. To have quality plus presentation would be the icing on the cake, IMO.
  12. In terms of the old studio, Im all for fully utilizing a resouce but, why does CBS repeatedly use studio 57 for almost everything?
  13. IMO, Politics is being done at nauseum by the networks. Look at MSNBC going full blown overkill on Trump coverage. Norah uprooting herself to go to D.C. just feels unnecesary given her uncertain future at the anchor desk. Look at John Dickerson. He gave up Face the Nation for CTM only to be shifted again to 60 Minutes. Outside of Norah, I think the struggle at CBS is that it feels generic and bland. IMO this includes sets, graphics, and anchor talent (minus 60mins & CBS Sunday Morning). The same could be said about its local O&Os, and CBSN (local) as well. None of the current talent on WCBS 2 in New York for example really stand out or have a commanding presence. The entertainment side of the network, though it does well in the ratings, has that generic ion televsion feel too. CBS literally pumps out a cookie cutter crime drama (some are actually pretty good) or sitcom at will call. Since the ratings are great in that regard, it aint broke so they won't fix it.
  14. I highly doubt Evening News moving to D.C. will help the show in any way. The whole 'closer to our nation's power source' angle IMO isn't special. IDK what they can do to stand out at this point. Perhaps a focus on international hard news might be unique in comparison to the U.S .focus on the other networks. In the extreme case, if the network were to replace Norah, what standout talent really exists at the network right now? Lol, if they gave it to Ted Kopel I'd definately tune in.
  15. Agreed about modern TV graphics being bland. Graphics are so flat and dull now. In regards to HD, high-definition has not been kind to cheaply produced daytime television, many local newscasts included. Case and point being Tamron Hall's talk show and 'The Real' talk show. The lighting on 'The Real' especially is so fluorescent and washed out.
  16. ABC's graphics are no prize either. NBC News has its flaws but it's graphics and studio design are usually the better of the 3 networks. You'd expect TV news graphics to get better as time advances but they seem to be getting worse.
  17. Who is running the graphics at CBS? CTM, Evening News and Special Reports lower thirds look like PowerPoint slide creations.
  18. GMA and Today are both largely unwatchable, but Today is slightly better in story choice. GMA (and Today) habitually overuse "breaking overnight", "shocking" video etc.. CBS This Morning isn't all that but it's the more intelligent of the three programs with a more relaxed pace. What's on GMA these days would be acceptable from Inside Edition or Entertainment Tonight but not a show branded under "ABC NEWS". Hopefully both shows make major changes in the 2020s.
  19. I'm sure it has to be frustrating for him to have to do some of the tabloidish silly content on the show. I really liked the dynamic when it was Groege, Robin, Lara, Josh and Sam. It was still tabloidish but watchable. The show feels crowded and over the top now. I like Michael Strahan, but they should just keep him on sports and maybe entertainment. Have Robin & George at the forefront more, get more "intellectual" content like there was under Hartman, Lunden, Gibson and Sawyer, and bring back that relaxed vibe. But they're still #1, so they've found what works for them.
  20. The news about Matt is upsetting because above all he was good at his job and the show was great under his tenure (pre 2013). He had a good thing going for him, all he had to do was not be a jerk. Moreover it was dumb of NBC News to hire Megyn Kelly for $20+ million. What they should have done was improve the 7-9a block with more intellectual story choice then axe the third and fourth hours.
  21. He has a tabloid-ish kind of voice which makes him perfect for WSVN or something like Hard Copy or Inside Edition, seems kind of off on WABC. He sounded great on WNBC and WNYW though.
  22. Guess the one saving grace at WCBS is its main studio and lighting is perhps the best in the market currently.
  23. Agreed, less is more! At least the Talk and Lets Make A Deal have held their slots for the entire decade since GL & ATWT were canceled. ABC on the other hand scrapped 40+ year old OLTL & AMC for shows that lasted no time at all. If the soaps do return they'd be better off as half hour shows with better writing than they had in their final years. As much as I love those long running venerable sopas, I must admit they've been on a quality slide since the mid 2000s. 30 mins might be better for their strained budget..smaller cast, less content to fill 5 days a week. Likewise, given General Hospital's current quality they'd be better off being chopped to a half hour.
  24. Prefer the KABC graphics. The current WABC package looks flat and bland. These graphics were my favorite of WABC's. Clean, sloid, and the triangular mics were a nice touch.
  25. Woahhhh......stong reaction. Easy, its just a discussion, just sharing ideas. I did not write, nor did I mean to imply that Jim and Kaity were coming back. I simply suggested that seeing them at 10pm again would be great. Might not be realistic but nothing terrible about stating that it would be cool if they'd return. The last thing I would want to do is spread misinformation. And since Jim and Kaity were removed we havent had an anchor pairing that lasted as long as them, which isnt't fake. The saturated 5-7 pm part is also not fake either. Channels 2,4,7, and 5 all have newscasts at 5 and 6pm so it was a suggestion that PIX stick to mornings and 10pm. Moreover there were two attempts at a 6:30 newscast which havent lasted. Awards dont necessarily equate to viewers or actual quality, there have been complaints in the thread about WPIX, there is even a how to fix WPIX idea thread which means that despite awards there is some desire for change at the station amongst viewers. As for the Barclays set, it was just a suggestion that they could go back to the idea, and build off of it. I like channell 11 news, and there is nothing wrong with sharing a desire for some tweaks at the station. Yes accuracy is important. Spreading "fake news" was not the intention of the post. We get passionate about this common subject of intrest but we can share ideas or unpopular opinions.
