Based on the stories I'm seeing, is it not news 12 Brooklyn anymore, is it just generalized news from nyc or just Brooklyn & the Bronx?

It's a blend of News 12 Brooklyn/Bronx and some stories out of Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.

I think News 12 NJ covers a bit of Staten Island

Adelle was back this morning. They use @AdelleCaballero on her lower third. They use @TRAFFIC4NY when Emily West is on.

My guess for now is that she is the official TINY Traffic reporter.  Emily West is usually the sub when adelle is out.

Dave Evans is retiring from Eyewitness News after 22 years. It was announced on the 6pm news.

He's been a good fixture in NYC politics news for a very long time. Although, he states that he is not a New Yorker, but when you been here for 20+ years in this business makes you live and breathe New York.  Happy retirement to a class act reporter.. There are plenty of rising stars in the other ABC affiliates who can definitely fill Dave Evans shoes.

    Another MSNBC exit...

Officially that Kendis Gibson is gone. I could see 3 things happening.

He could possibly go to the rival CNN+ screaming channel where Kasie Hunt and a few MSNBC alum are there already.  He could also go back home to ABC (but who wants to go back to early morning news) but where I see most fitting for him would be CBS News

This caught my attention and would be very interesting if true. Like her or not she is a rising voice on TV, and has played an important part in increasing MSNBC’s non-white viewers, which as we know advertisers pay more and more attention to.

If this happens I’d bet it will be part of a major reshuffle of primetime and could happen around the time Rachel ends her nightly show.

Didn't see this coming for Joy Ann Reid..

After MSNBC canned Chris Matthews I knew this is something that MSNBC would struggle. If they need that 7PM slot to be relevant again  get Shepard Smith from CNBC to MSNBC and put Joy Reid on weekends 8A-10A.. Ali Velshi for the 11th Hour during the week. To me he seems better and quite fitting to do the show better than Chris Jansing.

Possible news expansion (late afternoon) or weekends on PIX?

Remember: Pix already has 4, 5, 6pm already.  (You don't need anymore late afternoon than that)

I say possible Saturday/Sunday 6AM-9AM weekend slot which would be good for PIX.

Just learned that Chris Cimino will be joining WPIX doing morning weather and lifestyle reporting.

    Welcome back!

    You've been sorely missed.

First that's shocking news that Chris Cimino is coming back to NYC airwaves and apparently down the block to 42nd and 2nd..

Second: I notice this could only be today only that there is News 4 at 12noon.  However, the broadcast was only for 10 minutes.

Lastly: As for the traffic replacement for Lauren Scala.  There hasn't been a report as for the official replacement. Unless it is mentioned via WNBC social pages (Sometimes where announcements are made) or from the actual anchor it self. I wouldn't rely on WNBC's website.

That was what I originally thought as well about the "last week" comment. But now she's now posted two days of the CBS newscast and gotten congratulations in the comments from friends and co-workers. We'll have to see what happens next week.

As of now the profile at CBS New York has not been removed.  Unless there's a instagram/twitter post from her or a statement from CBS News  I wouldn't go very far with this.

I think they’ll for sure take Chuck off MSNBC, the viewers don’t like MTP Daily. Meet The Press is in 3rd place (total & prime viewers), so maybe NBC wants to make a change before the midterms. Who knows.

NBC News Universal News Group has not been utilizing talent like they should recently, they have a lot of good, young talent on the bench just sitting there. Odds are they’ll lose some of them to competition who will give them a regular spot.

They already lost Kasie Hunt to CNN+ and Geoff Bennett to PBS, and more talent might be on the way out.

MSNBC has made some very questionable moves and they are losing viewership right behind that.

The Long Island division has taken a serious turn for the worse these days. One hour newscast at 5pm now cut back to 30 minutes and runs in a loop like on weekends. Barely any local news coverage of crime, focused mainly on the pandemic, economics, and politics. They barely send reporters out and if they do its for COVID stories. They even ran the wrong footage which was taken in Wyandanch for a story about a deadly stabbing in Deer Park. Altice has wrecked this network. Such a shame.

Footage from an old story in Wyandanch. Deer Park is the town next door.

I feel that News 12 is more focused on Brooklyn/Bronx than Long Island.. I'm not too much aware about the Long Island operations. However, from what I've observed is that more coverage Brooklyn coverage usually blends with The Bronx coverage. Is News 12 Brooklyn taped in Soundview these days? I remember way back in the day they had a studio either in Sheepshead Bay or Canarsie.

  11. Lauren Scala’s last traffic report was this morning. She was very emotional. I mean for someone who’s been doing this for 10 years  the emotions are really gonna be there.  However, congratulations to her and that she’s still apart of the WNBC family and still reporting and doing things with NY live and TINY. So, all is not lost with Lauren.

I wonder if WNBC has found her replacement as of yet.  Hopefully, it is the old traffic reporter from spectrum news (NY1).

Interesting. I wonder if they’ll replace her or if they’ll take the WCBS route and have the anchors do traffic reports

Emily West will more likely become the new full time traffic reporter. I hope get she gets the gig. She blends very well with the team while Lauren is out. (Congratulations to Lauren).

Personally, I don't like the WCBS format of having anchors do the traffic report. WABC with the News at 4 does a brief report at 4:15 and that should only be the standard if anchors were to do traffic reports.  I get it traffic reporters are hard to find. But, for New York traffic you need a seasoned veteran reporter who knows the layout of NYC traffic.

  13. Honestly, I see no complaints to why these anchors are working solo. Especially TINY. Last I checked these anchors are humans as we are and they are entitled to time off. Last week was one example that Michael had a few days off and Darlene filled in and vice versa. However,  if both are given the day off it’s either Jen Maxfield or Adam Kuperstein filling in early
    AM’s.

I don’t think WNBC has an anchor issue. It’s more or less that the anchors are trying to use their vacation days.  As far as what happens after 11AM is still a mystery but one thing is for sure they are getting the job done at WNBC. As one mentioned earlier if the anchors are complaining (it’s not gonna be public)  but whatever the overall issue is the job is getting done and we gotta look at that versus anchor pairings.

I wonder if Jill Nicolini would want the full time traffic reporter job again?  As the very least I'm guessing she'll be doing the traffic reports until WPIX hires a new person.

If Pix is smart. Jill needs to be full time at this.  She’s been there for quite a while.. I find it kinda hard to find a new traffic reporter at least in New York City. I don’t even know if shadow traffic (the company) exists anymore.  A lot of the reporters that were in that company were eventually elevated to their current positions at the O&O’s in NYC.

PIX11 traffic and weather anchor Marissa Torres is joining Fox Weather as a co-anchor.

    First Betty leaves the station

Now, Marisa is leaving for better pastures. Damm, 48th and 6th is gonna have some familiar faces in NYC media in the next week or so.  Congrats to Marisa. Well deserved. She paid her dues at PIX.

I'm surprised she 'd want worse hours (if) it were her choice.

I'll say this. Betty has done very well for the past 4 years at pix and they are to willing to accommodate.  So it's safe to say she's in a good place to demand early morning hours.  Also, that newsroom just got a recent news director from West 57th Street which partly tells me that Hazel has good history with the recent ND.  Pix is competing for a top spot to edge out GDNY. Personally I feel they can do.  GDNY is completely done in my book.  GDNY hasn't been the same since the days of Lyn Brown, Julie Golden, Larry Hoff, Felipe Luciaino, Jim Ryan, Dick Oliver, Gordon Elliott, Robyn Carter, Mario Bosquez, Ken Rosato, and Greg Kelly.

Agreed! What prompted them to move Betty to 4:30am suddenly?

Part of me thinks this was Betty's choice to request a move to 4:30AM. My overall evaluation with John and Betty in the morning is very good. They both have good chemistry.  Now the question is will another change happen if this pairing doesn't work?

Dan and Hazel was also very good this past week.

I wish both early AM shows a success.

I really have to laugh at some of these comments on how WPIX staff was treated 5 - 10 years ago. Today there is are entirely different owners, management that had nothing to do with the past, so assume that anything that is done today is based on prior experiences is wrong - Regardless of what may think, this is a business and if the talent, or product, is not making money, they have the right to change it. I see positive things here - I see that they are trying to improve things - and get rid of any garbage that the inept owners and management team left.

And lets forget Jim Watkins or Lynn White - at the end, Lynn White looked like she didn't know what was going on and Jim Watkins - if he is so great what is his history after PIX - WTNH 8? for a short period - I liked Jim, but what ever he did was toxic to his career

Man, I used to remember Jim Watkins during his days on WNBC.  All of New York media was very talented during the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Those were the good ole days.  Lynn White was excellent in what she did while at Pix 11.
