  1. Bill Hemmer will take over the 3pm slot on Fox News. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/dec/9/bill-hemmer-tapped-for-shepard-smiths-slot-at-fox-/
  2. Well at least the open has more depth to it than WWSB's open. But I'm not a huge fan of this gfx package. That random spinning sphere seems awkward, in this open.
  3. One question I have about her that I haven't found a clear answer to: What years did she work at WIXT?
  4. Not sure if this video has been posted yet anywhere on TVNT, but thought I'd get this on here. This is the announcement as made on WFSB's air earlier this evening. Very sad.
  5. Coincidentally, earlier today, I made a spoof of the new Scripps gfx. I wasn't planning on posting it on TVNT, but now I can't help myself. Enjoy!
  6. Certainly Scripps' WSFL newscast could last through 2020 before low ratings (if they are low) compel corporate to rethink having a newscast on WSFL. But time will tell how the graphics will have a negative effect on WSFL (which I think they will).
  7. We're just having a healthy discussion/debate on this. I could care less at this point what Scripps does. But since I have some interest in graphics design, I do have my opinions when gfx get rolled out to a station group.
  8. I totally agree. The gfx stand no chance against WPLG and WSVN's graphics...even WTVJ's gfx. If their only competitor was WFOR, then maybe, but this is the Miami DMA. Unless they have a higher velocity variant to this gfx pkg we haven't seen yet, then expect the newscast to be dead on arrival. The s-l-o-w pace of these graphics will not work in Miami's very fast-paced market. While graphics aren't the most important element to a newscast, they do help set the pace and tone of a newscast and are extremely important to get right. These graphics are not the right fit for many markets...including Miami.
  9. Any chance Studio 57 gets renovated to bring the look more in line with the current DC look? I'd imagine that they would want the studio to look comparable in design in case they the show gets anchored from NY from time to time (like when a guest anchor is hosting or major coverage from NY).
  10. I've said it before in a different thread but I'll say it again: What works in France or Germany may not always work in America (and vice versa)...and that's okay. Every country is different and therefore the trends will reflect that. But make no mistake: these graphics will not work on WPIX--and especially WSFL. A person would have delusions of grandeur if they think that these new gfx could possibly work in a fast-paced and hyper-competitive market as Miami (WSFL). What gets me is how Hearst, Sinclair, and Nexstar all use some form of modern 2D graphics (with at least some 3D elements) that look great and are very functional...yet Scripps had to go completely bland with their gfx. I would prefer Scripps look and sound as best as possible, but it's their company so I just shrug my shoulders and move along.
  11. They also didn't consider WSFL having a newscast in the Miami market.
  12. As far as WATN goes, it's not really like getting bought by Tegna could make things much worse. But stations like KFSM have a lot to lose by being under Tegna ownership. For example, KFSM has been a reliable news station for years in NW Arkansas. Now, Tegna might change that. And as for WNEP, Tegna would be incredibly foolish if they dumped MCTYW as their theme. The viewers will not be happy if they did, and I wouldn't blame them. It's a great theme and a great asset to the station. At the least, I'd expect the station to get standardized with graphics. We'll see what Tegna does about the music, but I'm not holding my breath much that Tegna makes the wise call
  13. I wish I could give you 5 thanks because this might be the best comment in this whole discussion. Great comment
  14. I notice a small difference between the cuts used on WFTS and WTXL. Although, that four-note signature seems to be uniform across the cuts I've heard (with the exception of the breaking news cut). But the thing that is starting to drive me crazy with WFTS' music cuts is that "clamoring" percussion that is heard as the opening starts, before the 4-note signature--as can be heard in this open:
  15. I think everyone here wants the best for the Scripps stations. But if I see something that I know is not going to work (as I do with those gfx), I'm going to express that opinion. What's the point of expressing any opinion if you can't be honest about it? Also, criticizing others' ability to analyze just because they may have a different opinion than you doesn't help anything. I'll just leave it at that.
  16. I agree--this is certainly not Stephen Arnold's best work, imo.
  17. 100% agreed. One of the worst elements regarding the current Scripps gfx is the fine font on their gfx. This is one element that they should've improved on before WFTS debuted the gfx. The font choice makes the information more difficult to read and doesn't look newscast-professional. How much better the Scripps gfx would look if they went with something closer to KABC's gfx. And on a side note, KABC has one of the best gfx pkgs currently out there.
  18. After they left Studio 47 in 2016, they revamped that newsroom. I don't know for sure if the Studio 47 space was "absorbed" into the remodeled newsroom, but the pictures released at the time the remodel was unveiled didn't show any signs of the studio still being there. I would be curious to see if anyone has better knowledge on this matter. All of that to say: Besides the CBSN setup, Studio 57 (CBSTM set) has become the primary place for CBS News network broadcasts when originating from NY.
  19. I wonder how permanent that arrangement will be. I guess having much of the CBSEN staff in NY could work in the short-term, but I imagine that has to be incredibly inefficient. Collaborating via phone calls and video conferences only work to a certain extent. I just hope none of the rank-and-file employees lose their jobs. Agreed. I'll be surprised if the DC version of CBSEN lasts more than a couple or few years.
  20. Well I tend to also think that the music choice does help mask the unsightliness of this new gfx pkg at WFTS, to a degree. I genuinely feel sorry for WFTS and Scripps' other powerhouse stations for having to use the new gfx.
  21. I'm still utterly confused why Scripps would ever sign off on these graphics. If someone at Scripps is reading this, hire me and I'll make you a better gfx pkg using PowerPoint! But seriously, these gfx are beyond awful. If I am watching a newscast, I don't want boring and meh for graphics. I want gfx that get your attention and draw you into the story.
  22. My thoughts exactly. I figured that WTXL was a test that they would improve upon, but I guess Scripps is fine with that.
  23. Well it's official. I now completely dislike this graphics package. If this is what 2D "modern" graphics are supposed to look like, then I guess news graphics have passed their peak in quality. I've said it before, but Scripps deserve better gfx than this. Not only that, they, as a matter of necessity, need better graphics than this.
