  1. I don't watch and have actually never watched the Today show besides some clips online, but I think it will be Craig Melvin. Today viewers already know him, and they probably don't have to pay him anything close to 20 million. It looks like the days of spending millions and millions on network anchors is coming to an end. It still disgusts me that Megyn Kelly was not only hired by NBC, but was also paid $69 million for a 3 year contract just to anchor the 9:00am hour. It's actually kind of funny Today spends so much on talent yet they have more problems with talent than any other show. They spend millions to get Ann Curry off the show in the middle of her contract, hire Billy Bush only for it to blow up in their face shortly after, replace the well liked Tamron Hall with the disaster known as Megyn Kelly at a way higher cost which also results in Tamron Hall jumping to ABC, pay millions to Matt Lauer until his awful actions become public, and that's just a few things I can think of off the top of my head. CBS various morning shows have had constant talent and format shakeups, but I doubt they spent anywhere close to what Today has on bad talent decisions. I think Tom Llamas has it in his contract that he will be the one to replace Lester Holt. It doesn't make sense for him to leave ABC News, which is higher rated than NBC News, just to host an online streaming show on NBC News Now, especially since he was already doing streaming news on ABC News Live which ranks higher than NBC News Now. It also doesn't make sense for NBC to spend the money to lure away a high profile highly paid ABC News anchor just for a streaming show.
  2. I do think the way they do news (a mix of local news, national news, weather, celebrity news, police pursuits, and fun banter) just works for the all day news format. It also helps that their news is properly funded. This isn't some broke Sinclair station producing 16 hours of news a day, they have the staff and resources to cover LA news properly. Yeah if you watch it all day long non stop it could get boring but you could say the same thing watching hours and hours of court shows or talk shows all day. They cover serious news when needed yet allow talent to have fun in a way that is unparalleled to any other station. Their talent is so beloved by viewers that they can basically do a whole hour of them having an unscripted conversation (Off The Clock) and it works. It's also worth pointing out that 15 years ago they only had a morning newscast and hour at 10:00pm. Daytime used to be full of Jerry Springer, Maury, Steve Wilkos, and other conflict talkers. Repeats of Family Guy aired in the evening. They slowly built up over the years starting with news at times when other stations had entertainment programming and then expanding to compete against the other newscasts head on.
  3. Starting September 16, KTLA is launching a new half hour 7pm newscast "KTLA News at 7" LA Unscripted will move to 7:30pm replacing Two and a Half Men. KTLA is all new and local every weekday from 4:00am to 8:00pm. Plus weekends live from 6:00am to 11:00am, 4:00pm to 7:00pm, and 10:00pm to 12:05am, although sports will impact the weekend schedule on some dates.
  4. The True Crime News website has a list of where is it currently scheduled. Most of the stations listed have it scheduled as TBA and the few stations to have it actually scheduled are the FOX O&O's. Looks like it will mostly be airing on FOX's MyNetworkTV stations in most markets and not on the actual FOX station. For example it's only listed as airing on KCOP in LA, WWOR in New York, etc. KCPQ in Seattle does plan to air it at 7:30pm (which also confirms the show will be 30 minutes with FOX primetime starting at 8:00pm) It does appear that the show will be given 2 runs, but given how they are scheduled it looks like only a 30 minute original episode with the 2nd airing being an encore (similar to what Entertainment Tonight does) as no stations have it scheduled back to back and most of the 2nd run broadcasts are scheduled overnight (ex WWOR has it scheduled for 6:30pm with another airing at 1:00am) in some markets like Seattle and Chicago it will air one airing on the FOX station with another run on the MyNetworkTV station (ex 1:00pm on WFLD, 10:00pm on WPWR) Not many other stations on the list and it's on the CW Plus in a lot of cities. Not really sure what the point was for FOX to get on board with this show if they only plan to dump it mostly on MyNetworkTV stations or low profile slots on the few FOX stations. Crime Watch Daily had a stronger group of stations
  5. Any news on the local ratings since KCAL launched morning news and the KCAL News brand replaced the CBS Los Angeles branding?
  6. I watch a lot of MSNBC and they call out Sinclair every now and then. It's nothing new and Sinclair has bigger problems to worry about. I could see them getting upset if they were being called out on NBC News programming that Sinclair owned stations actually broadcast like NBC Nightly News or Meet The Press but Sinclair really isn't in any position to make a fuss about MSNBC programming.
