C Block 1566 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Granite, WABC never had the best sets but a good news team. I've actually always preferred Gabbro to Granite as my favorite igneous rock formation...
rah6448 21 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 So as of today, it's been three weeks since the tear-down of the old set...anyone hear anything about the new one?
kshow 167 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 NEW SET! Supposed to make it its debut on Wednesday. It sort of reminds me of WABC's. I like it though...
abric 181 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I am very impressed. Can't wait to see it debut on Wednesday.
TexasTVNews 1378 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 If that new set is design by FX Group, I'm going to get REAL excited!
nynewslover 279 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 It reminds me a little bit of channel 7s.. I can't tell from the pic.. Is that a RP behind them? I'm assuming it is
Action Newsroom 1300 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (Angel voice) AAAAAHHHHHH. That set is...WOOOWWWW!!!! I think I really like it from the moment I first time I saw it. This should blow WABC's set out of the water...or the lake, because their set is still magnificent. Now awaiting WNBC's set and (fingers crossed) WPIX's set.
Daybreak 289 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 That is what I call a nice set. The only thing WABC have over them is that it on ground level but I like the desk a whole lot better. I really like WABC weather center but WCBS set is more together than spread out like WABC.
Jess 1116 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 ....why is the CBS 2 logo boxed? That's really really bugging me about this set, which I need to see more of before I say "Best Set In New York". That and it really shows the whole "house style" Peter Dunn seems to be addicted to.
lazynetjunkie 34 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Alot of WBBM elements in the set.. The box around the logo, the abstract CBS logo art above the backdrop, the weather center desk.. Looks like quite a bit was based off the portable desks/stands WBBM has. Is that a fake room backdrop I see behind the fogged window panels in the photo of the anchors? Definitely WBBM. That light blue rectangular panel on the far right of the photo of the anchors standing is definitely a WBBM set graphic.. For some reason, I'm not feeling this set is a FX Group. It doesn't seem to have that "cheapness" FX Group sets usually have.. I could be wrong though.
NYNews 54 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Looks nice, not overdone like WABC's set. I wonder if there's going to be a logo change in the graphics as well to adopt the box.
rah6448 21 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I'm calling it....this set was designed by Jack Morton/PDG, at least that's my educated opinion. I based this upon analysis of design traits shared commonly between WCBS's new set and several others by PDG.

This design is not on par with anything else FX has done lately. It's not orange, for one thing.
rah6448 21 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Thank you! I'm also willing to say the same of KPIX's set due to the design elements I see there, notably the second screenshot from NewscastStudio's SetStudio, where the curved partitions and wall construction remind me of WBBM: http://www.newscaststudio.com/setstudio/kpix
kshow 167 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Wonder if the lights are LED and can change colors?
mark 55 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 The KPIX set was FX. I saw it somewhere on FX Group's Facebook page.

rah6448 21 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Found the Facebook page, had to scroll a bit, but found the mention of KPIX's set....nothing of WCBS, though.
tvknowledge 5 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 They had rehearsals all weekend at cbs2. They want to try and debut it by Tuesday night or Wed.
tvknowledge 5 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 More on the new set debuting this week http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2011/10/18/2011-10-18_wcbs_tries_to_bridge_news_and_informationgathering_power_of_local_channels_and_s.html
C Block 1566 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The most surprising thing in that link isn't the picture of the set, but the fact that CBS wants to launch their own competitor to the NBC Nonstop concept? News to me.
abric 181 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So WCBS is this Thursday at noon and PIX is on Friday October 28. I can't to see them both.
kshow 167 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Nice! I think this will be better than WABC's set.
