It laments the fact that the Media Bureau didn't respond to their response to their letter. They also slam Free Press for using 2012 estimates from SNL Kagan and contend that they shouldn't have to attach LMAs for television applications (apparently radio LMAs are treated differently). They also sent along a bunch of redacted documents. The documents are licensee operating projections, except with everything useful blacked out. That part came up twice. And wasted a lot of ink. mre29 1524 Posted December 28, 2013 Share Posted December 28, 2013 One interesting takeaway from that interview, in addition to Sinclair asking Buckeye to pay 10x the previous amount in retransmission fees, is the additional requirement that Buckeye carry the new cable news channel that Sinclair is developing on its Expanded Basic tier. Something that I predicted was going to happen when these plans first came out over the summer. This would be the cable news channel based on the DC-area channel they don't officially own yet, right? Pretty gutsy move on Sinclair's part to demand their channel be put on expanded basic regardless of the fact that there are currently no viewers for it. You would think that after seeing how difficult it was for channels like the NFL Network and Longhorn Network to even get carried on systems like TWC, Directv, and Comcast that it would be incredibly stupid to not only demand that Sinclair's new channel be carried but that it must be carried on expanded basic, they're setting themselves up with more fights like this down the road and I can't see this benefiting them in the long-run. Imagine if ESPN pulled this stunt when they launched the Longhorn Network or the upcoming SEC Network. Do you ever see any other serious media outlet posting articles from left-wing think tanks on their webpage? That all being said, I do agree with most in thinking that this version is an improvement over the WBFF layout. Although some of the tabs still have too much junk on them (the news tab doesn't need 18 different sections to choose from). I sent KDNL a Facebook message asking that same thing and they said the schedule is correct. Last night, they just simulcasted KSDK's 5 and 10PM news. But I'm not sure if that's because its a holiday or if this is the "replacement". I did point out earlier that there are now job listings for producers, photographers, and news interns on the Sinclair job page for KDNL. http://jobs.sbgnet.com/sbghire/JobManagement.jsp So part of me is wondering if they were able to extend the agreement with KSDK until Sinclair gets something going at KDNL (whatever that may be)? EDIT: KDNL is simulcasting KSDK's 5 PM and 10PM newscast as well (1/1). It also doesn't sound like that KDNL's control room has any idea when KSDK's newscast starts because they've been cutting over to KSDK's newscasts a few minutes after it starts. Sure seems that way.I guess they were able to extend the agreement now that it's under a lot less scrutiny since Gannett was forced to sell off KMOV. And regardless of what they said, this should be proof that cancelling StlNow in the first place was tied to the Gannett-Belo deal combined with Sinclair planning on getting KTVI (which obviously didn't happen).
