Journal Broadcast Group Sells 2 Stations

And that man is Kevin Adell of Adell Broadcasting, owner of WADL-TV 38 and The Word Network.

Don't hurt Kevin's feelings, or he'll have his retired FBI agent bodyguard after you! :rofl!: Not that I condone the actions of Kevin O'Brien, but it made sense that the paranoid Adell would hire him then have his personal P.I. dig up some dirt on him.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but it seems the most appropriate spot to post this. I totally expected OTA to let KMIR wither away while waiting for the spectrum auction but instead they are investing heavily. They've added a lot of staff to the news department, brought back a full weather department (including poaching the chief meteorologist from KESQ), billboard ads around town and now they've got a whole new set and graphics. The set is pretty great (for Palm Springs' market size) and blows KESQ's also newish set away. The graphics.... meh - they look in-house.

Which all leads me to the question: WHAT THE HECK IS OTA PLANNING WITH KMIR?!

As an aside, it's funny to see OTA invest a ton in KMIR (after years of Journal) while NPG seems to have gutted KESQ/KPSP. A lot of KPSP's people were cut when those newsrooms merged and the combined newsroom has lost even more positions since.

The graphics look like an odd mix of other packages we've seen but I can't quite put my finger on which ones.

My guess is that since there's only one other competitor in town (The NPG duopoly), OTA figured it was worth it to invest in the station and take advantage of an undeserved market.

Good news to hear.

There's a lot to be said about Journal's management style there...

I don't think the plan was to ever shutter the station (like what happened to WMGM). It's part of a duopoly. Auction whichever will get you the most money, merge everything onto the frequency that's left, then sell that station to an actual group. Make it appealing by improving it so all the hard work is done and it's more appealing to a new buyer.
