ColtFromGulfcoast 709
Nexstar is sucking up to the administration just like Sinclair is. They will both get exactly what they want as long as they keep that up. 185 Nexstar stations? I thought it was less than that? Or did we miss something? CircleSeven 1955
Another Big Tegna Departure. Was mentioned in the shoutbox, but I'll mention it here. And it's not one, but two. KXTV has decided not to renew the contracts of its main anchors Cristina Mendonsa & Dale Schorack. No word on when the pair leave the station. Mendonsa has been at Channel 10 for 21 years, Schornack has been there for 19 years. That's a really nice way to kill what's left of your viewership. The bloodbath continues to roll at the Tegna outlets... Pitiful. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13009-tegna-broadcasting-and-digital-general-discussion/page/76/#findComment-172642 Share on other sites

Conrad 113
Fortunately, most of the 7 Cities also have a modicum of FiOS, plus a decent penetration of satellite TV as well. But, the reason you aren't seeing a BIG kerfuffle is because for the four markets affected, there is a (somewhat) reasonable alternative (other than satellite TV and OTA) because of Cox's low footprint nationwide. NOLA would be the biggest loss by market and MVPD coverage -- Cox is the only provider (sans satellite) in New Orleans proper and most other areas south and east of Lake Ponchartrain. Most of immediate Phoenix and the northern parts of the market have Centurylink as a competitor, as well as Mediacom w/ a small sliver too in eastern parts. Western parts (towards Vegas) have Frontier. Macon is really the only one with no other MVPD in immediate area (Frontier and Mediacom are on the northern fringes). But even then -- Mediacom actually has a small sliver in some spots of Macon proper. But the New Orleans area has AT&T as a competitor to Cox, along with maybe Charter/Spectrum. Macon also has AT&T as a competitor to Cox, and CenturyLink actually serves the entire Phoenix area. Which specific parts of the Phoenix area have Mediacom and Frontier? I live there without realizing they have operations in parts of the area. In the Hampton Roads area, I think Hampton Roads also has Mediacom, and there might be more of that area with Charter. UPDATE: The Phoenix area is primarily Cox and CenturyLink, with Mediacom serving only some eastern suburbs. None of it is served by Frontier. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13009-tegna-broadcasting-and-digital-general-discussion/page/76/#findComment-173610 Share on other sites

KevCor 344
The Nexstar - TEGNA rumor is still hot, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable. Although the rumor has been flying around for months, it got new life this week when, according to the report, a Nexstar executive told investors that they are eyeing said company. If they were to strike a deal, it could be announced as soon as May 31, which would be the date TEGNA will complete its spinoff of Cars.com. Add into that the response from TEGNA was that it "will be a pure play broadcaster pursuing an aggressive growth strategy" once it spins off Cars.com, and, folks, you have a smoldering hot rumor. If you thought Sinclaribune was bad, wait until you get NexTEGNAstar. Nexstar and Tegna are both terrible companies trying to do things as cheaply as possible. The only "good" thing that would come out of this is that Nexstar would stop producing those terrible Tegna talk shows and would drop that stupid "social media" centered newscasts from spreading beyond WTSP and KXTV 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13009-tegna-broadcasting-and-digital-general-discussion/page/76/#findComment-175258 Share on other sites
TexasTVNews 1377
Quick reminder, Nexstar owns WFLA. So, if there's a Nexstar-Tegna Merger happening (In which I don't see it happening) Nexstar will have to sell 'FLA to another broadcast group. atlnews2 591
Nexstar and Tegna have conflicts in Tampa, Portland(OR), Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Buffalo, Little Rock, Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, Abilene, Knoxville, Austin, Tyler, Waco, and San Angelo. Would a combined company be allowed to keep both WHAG and WUSA? Also are their enough stations in Phoenix for a duopoly between KPNX and KASW?
