Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Holy crap, that is bad. I just tweeted them about how bad the out indicators are. Can't even see them clearly from my couch. You can't even intuitively tell that those little blue things on the side are supposed to indicate outs. 2
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 At least that looks somewhat clean. Hate to say it, but the best work so far has been the promotional graphics.
24994J 5629 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Did they get Sinclair to do these? They get their own custom goddamn graphics, and they STILL have to squeeze CUBS into that little box. Are they expecting baseball teams to score hundreds of points? I do like the color scheme. The blue, white, and gray on black is nice, but it falls...flat. Betcha every sport will use blue, including the Sox, which will look really out of place on everybody that's not the Cubs. Color the team names their appropriate color, and that would add a little pop to that side of the board.
Georgie56 3326 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Scoreboard: AWFUL. Looks like they took some cues from Fox Sports’ current flat look.
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 There's a point where flat is too flat. This is too flat. Their score graphic from like 2003 had more personality than this. 1

Agreed about the colored team names. Everyone does that now because it looks better. The gray background for the team names is bland.
ChiCubsFan 34 Posted March 25, 2018 Author Posted March 25, 2018 Holy crap, that is bad. What the hell is that?
24994J 5629 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 In a bit of a surprise, while the theme is updated and very similar to the old, it now closes with the news theme's signature. It actually sounds pretty good.
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 The rest of the WGN Sports graphics look very beautiful.
Georgie56 3326 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 I wish WGNA showed sports again so we could see it in action.
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 April 23rd is the official start date for Joe Donlan, per the ads WGN is running during the Cubs game today. 1

alex979 119 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Here's a short clip of the new sports graphics in action 3
24994J 5629 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Playing with the font size and redoing the out indicators really worked wonders for the scorebar. It's still the weakest part of an otherwise great package, but it's not so glaringly off as it was during the dry run. Like the old graphics, the open is my favorite part. Now if ABC 7 could adopt the now-former white ESPN pack, we'd be golden, but I'm not holding my breath.
CircleSeven 1960 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 April 23rd is the official start date for Joe Donlan, per the ads WGN is running during the Cubs game today. He will start on the week when the May Books start (on the 26th). 1
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Watching at home on the 70-inch TV...some of the full screen graphics were rough around the edges. Not sure if it can be chalked up to "typical road broadcast issues" or if they need to refine something with their graphics system overall.
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 They need to either pick their backgrounds more wisely or put a light-colored box around that black text on the right.
Georgie56 3326 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Outside of the scorebox, I like these new sports graphics a lot. It almost looks network-level. WGN/Tribune has the best in-house creative group in the country.
Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Even though the Cubs game went to 11:30 on a Friday night, neither of the anchors went home early, and Tom Skilling is still there. Surprising.

Spring Rubber 716 Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Looks like the White Sox presentation is the same as the Cubs. Same blue colors, even the same music. EDIT: The music might have a slightly different tone to it? 2
24994J 5629 Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 EDIT: The music might have a slightly different tone to it? I'd almost say so. The open was the same, but the bumper sounded different. This theme will work well with the Blackhawks, as the new open sounds like a cross between theirs and the Sox old ones. I doubt this'll jive with the Bulls, though. 3
Chicago's Very Own 104 Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I feel like Sinclair is already going to try to fire him, and they don't even own Tribune yet, lol 1
