jrh1985 57 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 This morning I went into the 12 News App and noticed that there was a new logo on it. Then I went to wisn.com and it was there as well. Anyone know if this logo will make it to air? New graphics coming?
CircleSeven 1960 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Hmmmm. I'm so use to the"WISN" Bank Gothic font. At least the '76 "12" logo hasn't been ditched.
LoadStar 364 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I noticed the new sports guy wearing a coat with the revised logo on it.
jbnews 345 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I like the logo. It never crossed my mind that they might get new graphics. I doubt it though, because they JUST finished rolling them out. KITV in Hawaii just debuted them this year. (Almost 2 years after they originally launched) I don't think they would go through the trouble all over again. Plus, as a viewer, I wouldn't like them changing all the time. I will email and ask though, and let everyone know what they say.
jrh1985 57 Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 I noticed the new sports guy wearing a coat with the revised logo on it. You're right on both counts, it was on his coat although it looked too big for the coat, and he was new. What happpend to Trey?? It seems that Dan and Steph are they only ones that stay at Big 12 Sports. Wonder if we'll see Bob on the air again or even Drew. Not related to the new logo but, can anyone guess why WISN is handling Obama tonight and not ABC News? I was looking forward on who would do it at ABC. Most likley George but you never know. Or, aren't the networks not doing tonight's speech? I'll admit I missed the first 10 minutes of WNT tonight.
Weeters 1969 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Not related to the new logo but, can anyone guess why WISN is handling Obama tonight and not ABC News? None of the networks did special reports. The logo is meh. The ABC logo looks like it was added as an afterthought.

It was definitely a very quiet departure. I guess they figured with him only being in town a little over a year, no need to make note of his leaving. Bob...? Drew...? I'm guessing the first is Bob Brainerd... he only freelanced for the station, but he's now with Time Warner Cable SportsChannel according to his LinkedIn. As for Drew, if you mean Drew Olson, he isn't even with WISN, he's with ESPN Radio Milwaukee. He still appears on the "Big 12 Sports" WISN/ESPN Radio Milwaukee co-branded show. The logo is meh. The ABC logo looks like it was added as an afterthought. I don't get the need for the new logo. Right now, it doesn't look like they're moving away from the use of Bank Gothic, so I don't think it's that. I thought the old logo was more flexible, offering both a horizontal and vertical version... and the horizontal version looked like it fit in quite well with the Hearst graphics.

Definitely an afterthought. I don't know why but it's a gut feeling. It's worth noting that it appears every Hearst station that does news carried the speech.
Big Country News 435 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 None of the networks did special reports. FOX Did, they piped in Shepard Smith from the FOX News Deck.
LoadStar 364 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 FOX Did, they piped in Shepard Smith from the FOX News Deck. Was it a special report across the FOX network, or was it just a FOX News Channel report that was made available upon request by the affiliates?
Big Country News 435 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Was it a special report across the FOX network, or was it just a FOX News Channel report that was made available upon request by the affiliates? They opened on the network feed with the 'FOX News Special Presentation' graphic. They had O'Reilly on FNC.
TVNewsLover 787 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 They opened on the network feed with the 'FOX News Special Presentation' graphic. They had O'Reilly on FNC. Yes. I think it was optional for the affiliates to pick up.
Guest Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Nothing is "optional" if Fox network is feeding it to their affiliates...
TVNewsLover 787 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Nothing is "optional" if Fox network is feeding it to their affiliates... It was optional as not all affiliates carried it: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/as-networks-pass-on-immigration-address-local-stations-produce-special-reports_b246791
jrh1985 57 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 OK, WISN just used the new logo at the noon update. So, I'm guessing it debuts at 5 tonight? Maybe a new Open? Nefore noon the logo was just on the 10PM promo, and there's a new bug that started during Oz
WXmanTim 88 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Nothing is "optional" if Fox network is feeding it to their affiliates... It's called a "level 2" cut-in and it is optional for the affiliates to take. Monday's Hagel resignation announcement was another level 2 cut-in.
trev57 46 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 New logo is on tonight. Not sure when it debuted. Interesting that they're featuring the ABC logo during newscasts.
MidwestTV 1247 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Doesn't ABC require theie affiliates to have the ABC logo in their logo?
trev57 46 Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Doesn't ABC require theie affiliates to have the ABC logo in their logo? This was their previous on air logo, so I would guess no.
jrh1985 57 Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 This was their previous on air logo, so I would guess no. Could that be a new thing? Because earlier this year, WISN added the ABC in promos and even in the ID when they used to do the full open(I miss the full open!)for 12 News This Morning on the weekends. Can't remember if the ABC was in the bug during daytime programming.

It's been mentioned a few times on this forum that ABC is requiring their affiliates to add the ABC logo next to the station logo when that station's affiliation renewal comes up.

I hate that. The ABC logo just looks plastered on so many of their affiliates. I believe it takes away from some of them.

I have to agree, but the network really writes co-branding into their affiliation agreements (every single ABC one I've read has that clause) in a way I don't think I've seen from any other network.

Here's a line that dictates the inclusion of the ABC logo, taken from WJLA's affiliation agreement: Station will add the ABC logo element to Station’s local identification in a phased manner that will be accomplished when the Station makes its next update to its on-air graphic package and its website. Off-air materials will be updated when the Station re- supplies its print, signage or other similar materials. I guess they could have gotten away with it until the next Hearst package drops.
