I googled her (new) name, looking for a demo reel, and most of the results were for a Playboy model/porn star. Already off to a good start. 1

ns8401 951 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Matt Piacente is in as News Director coming over from the NBC owned station in Hartford. He spent time at 5, 7 and 9 in his previous 20 year stint in Chicago.
Chicago News Boy 34 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 http://www.depauw.edu/news-media/latest-news/details/32245/ Already painful to watch on GDC Weekend Pronounced Bishop as "Beeshop" and blase cupich as "Soup-itch"

24994J 5619 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 [...] blase cupich as "Soup-itch" Like, as of it was 2 separate words? Otherwise, that just sounds like she emphasized the p on the first syllable. Is it coo-pitch? Soo-pitch. She was likely decently close. I saw a few minutes of her this morning, and was not hardly as bad as I expected.

Chicago News Boy 34 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Is it coo-pitch? It's spelt "Cupich" however most reporters pronounce it as "C-Pitch." On second thought, I guess I can't really blame her for the mispronunciation because had it not been for the recent media w/ Cupich, I would probably botch it too. 1

She's not a seasoned veteran by any means, however, I suppose she's better than the awful Scott Schneider who subbed in the role until her arrival (he's also the 9 pm weekend anchor and a rising choice for Jeff's back-up)

brianpr3 178 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 hell the archdiocese needs to send out a pronunciation guide,it reminds me of a teammate on football at north fort myers high his last name was lapaugh pronounced (la-paww) i heard lapow and a french pronunciation le pew i even had to send an email to nbc 2 to correct the pronunciation and it stopped after that 2
Chicago News Boy 34 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Ron Magers says "C-Pitch" Tomato, tomatoe Potato, potatoe Therefore, I scrap my comment on Kristen mispronouncing his name.

Given time, he'll hopefully get better. Same can be said of Nicole. 1
CircleSeven 1960 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Now Feder is saying this morning that WFLD could be implementing a new 5pm newscast this summer. Should this come into fruition, this would be the last Fox O&O to implement an early evening broadcast. 1
24994J 5619 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Even if no one watches, it really is about time.
Jase 1065 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Piacente is going to have his hands full when he starts next week. I could see him making this new newscast his pet project (which wouldn't be a bad idea). They really are going to have to offer up something drastically different to draw viewers in. Best of luck to them... 1
ChiCubsFan 34 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Mike Caplan has changed the cover photo on his Facebook page, took his profile picture off, and deleted a all posts since Wednesday. Kind of odd.
Jase 1065 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 She just didn't do very well with WNBC and that hurt her. She's not a bad anchor though, this could be a good thing for WFLD because she has experience in a better newsroom than WFLD and maybe can add to the station. Shiba Russell isn't headed to WFLD/Chicago, but WXIA/Atlanta instead. It's unclear if she was deciding between the two stations and picked WXIA or if WFLD wasn't really in the running. FYI: The weekend anchor job posting has been removed from WFLD's site which either means they won't fill it (any time soon) or they found someone (internally or externally). We shall see... http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/shiba-russell-to-join-wxia-morning-show/170579

CircleSeven 1960 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 WFLD is better off not doing an early evening broadcast.
24994J 5619 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I still think it should've been at 6. They'd be against 3 stations instead of 4, including a very beatable WBBM. They'd also have the 6:30 half hour to themselves. Have Family Feud at 5 as the lead-in and a less-strong, but respectable primetime line-up as the lead-out, and they'd definitely get a few more eyeballs because of those other blocks. Missed opportunity. 1
