ihEARDtHAT 8 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Just saw a Facebook post from CBS 8 (KFMB San Diego) stating that DISH Network may stop carrying their signal after 11pm on July 22, 2015. A Google search shows a similar dispute back at the end of 2014 but I could not find anything for this July deadline other than the website created by CBS 8 (http://keepcbs8.com/)
rkolsen 1686 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I think KFMB's attempts will be futile. They are a mom and pop operation with only one television station. Eventually they will cave. I would also like to know how many subscribers actually follow through with their pledges to cancel service. I'm sure Dish Network is really worried about the loss of a handful of subscribers. To me the loss of one channel that I can easily pull in over the air wouldn't be worth the time and money to cancel one service (and pay $$$ to get out of my contract) and subscribe for another. Now if this were a situation like the CBS/Time Warner fiasco that effected a large number of channels over a long period of time I would consider.
KevCor 344 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Can't they just simply go back to "must-carry"? Yeah, I know they'll lose money (big time, because they still have to pay CBS the reverse compensation). But yeah...they could easily be back on the air with must carry, if I'm correct.
ihEARDtHAT 8 Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 Graham Stations are also on the list to be removed from DISH on Wednesday. "The stations are Miami ABC affiliate WPLG, Houston NBC affiliate KPRC, Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV, Orlando CBS affiliate WKMG, San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT and Jacksonville indie WJXT." http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/dish-network-set-to-drop-graham-stations/152213?utm_medium=newsletter&utm_source=tvspy&utm_campaign=dailynewsletter20150721
ihEARDtHAT 8 Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 Now they are going through the same hurdles with DirecTV.
A3N 1002 Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Now they are going through the same hurdles with DirecTV. Just in time for the Chargers first Pre-Season game! Should be fun to see what happens.
Eat News 4745 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Considering the high amount of rural population....and the very high incomes of said rural population...and the high amount of cord cutters .... It's a different game now. Mom and Pop station doesn't really matter now, since it's really all about current and future projected subs. Yup, Should be interesting. Since the negotiations are not public info I guess we will never know who "won".
1place4news 5 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 KFMB's affiliation with CBS runs out this year. They're probably spooked after what happened to WISH in Indy last year, and are squeezing all the carriers to get more pennies to re-up.

They're probably spooked after what happened to WISH in Indy last year, and are squeezing all the carriers to get more pennies to re-up. Doesn't CBS have something in place where they could negotiate re-trans fees on-behalf of those affiliates that wanted it? With them getting a cut of course... Plus, they just recently partnered up in the CBS All-Access venture. Doesn't seem like they would join if their affiliation situation was up in the air. But where would CBS even go? KUSI? XETV? I'm sure XETV would be interested but I doubt CBS would go with them. It's more likely that they'll pipe in KCBS from LA into the market.
ihEARDtHAT 8 Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 No deal reached. According to a post by CBS 8 I am let to believe that DirecTV dropped the retransmission at 5pm local time. http://www.cbs8.com/story/16335928/keep-cbs8
