You're welcome.

But seriously, if NBC really does launch NBC Boston on WNEU, it'll run the very high risk of becoming the modern equivalent of WWJ, except here, it really isnt worth it at all if they do. I'm not even sure that Bostonians would be willing to watch WJAR considering that Boston is full of liberals and Sinclair screams conservative (hell, they caused an uproar when they bought Fisher Communications, especially in Seattle, as the city is known to be very much liberal).

WJAR has decent cable coverage in Massachusetts. Their news is an abomination of daily technical glitches, though: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjPNTtfIJCBh1N3xq-2j8Ew

Wouldn't WNEU also have decent cable penetration thoughtout the Boston DMA, which makes the issue only for those without cable and sattelite. They can pick up NBC programming over the air on WNEU or WJAR and in the case of WJAR, just switch to another station for news. WJAR's news has become an abomination, from a content (Sinclair slant and commentary) in addition to the technical glitches. I grew up watching it and now when I'm in town, I can't stand watching it anymore.

Theyre better off being bought by NBC now, if Sinclair is willing to sell it, which at this point, they likely arent.

NBC did own WJAR from 1997-2007. It was one of the Outlet Four stations that was sold to Media General during the NBCU 2.0 cuts.

They're not interested. They had the chance to get it back when MG bought LIN but they didn't take it. The days of networks wanting to own stations outside of strategically-located markets are over, because the conglomerates that own the networks no longer drool over the amount of dough that local TV stations bring in.

Which wouldn't be as much of an issue... except Comcast is the dominant cable provider in the Boston market.

IOW, you will have no other choice but to pay Comcast in order to watch NBC programming on a station owned by Comcast that has a non-existant OTA signal. Cord cutters or cord nevers? Tough luck!

Just think about that. It's a total spite move. And, as I've said in multiple other instances on this thread, NBC Boston will be a terrible failure for Comcast and could inflict massive damage on NBC overall.

As if NBC doesn't already have enough damage done to it. If this goes through, it could mean worse for them, as well as many Bostonians. For one thing, how can you watch the 2018 winter olympics if WNEU isn't broadcast towards most of the Boston area? Watch WJAR?

Except now, they should be interested in buying WJAR back or buying WLVI because WNEU's signal doesn't reach even half of Boston, but the former two do.

I should want to point out that former CBS 13 (KOVR) morning anchor Audrey Asistio has been hired by NECN/NBC Boston as anchor and reporter

Hard for me to believe that, at this point, NBC doesn't have a final plan in place. It's not that far away from January 1, and if they're planning to do a "soft" opening, that's makes it even sooner. I have to know just where I'm going to be watching Harry Connick Jr. which, BTW, is, according to Harry's TV site, also listed as being sold to WBIN and running in Prime Time 9PM. "Access Hollywood" still lists WHDH as its affiliate.

Disclaimer: WSVN Fan is my buddy, and I know he doesn't live in the Pork and Beans.

I'd like to predict that NBC moves to WNEU but upgrades their signal (either through purchasing WLVI's signal at the auction or something like it) to expand their coverage.

That's not how the auction works. The spectrum auction involves stations auctioning their spectrum back to the FCC, and cellular phone companies will buy it in a different auction. It's not an auction for companies to buy TV stations.

Oh.

Sorry, I'm just new to this forum

At this point, anything and everything that NBC does for "NBC Boston" will be the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.

We know that WNEU/60 as-is will be a colossal failure and a significant ratings/revenue drain for NBC. It's coming off as the ultimate in sour grapes. And it's not unrealistic to assume that Comcast, plagued with a stillborn O&O that has no shot of success, will shut the station down and give up the NBC affiliation to someone... anyone... that would care for it. Or they shut down the news operation and run it as a low-rent WWJ-TV. And that's if they don't do anything mentioned in Speculatron.

There's really nothing that Bostonians can do about it... except cutting the cord, of course. Which would be the perfect double-barrelled attack on Comcast.
