jbnews 346 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 The $150,000 set from Broadcast Design International will debut along with some new in studio cameras and monitors late this summer. Their current studio from Erector Sets debuted in November 2012 and looks terrible. I am glad they are getting a new one. How nice does a $150,000 set look? I am curious. http://www.newscaststudio.com/2016/04/13/erie-stations-getting-key-upgrades/ And, they will also debut a new 7pm newscast on WICU on Monday April 18th, the only one in the market
MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 989 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 This is in the wrong thread -- should be put in the Sets & Studios Thread
NewsMaster 226 Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016
This is in the wrong thread -- should be put in the Sets & Studios Thread
I second that. And @jbnews, next time please don't post twice back to back; it would be better if you simply edit the first post. ;)
jbnews 346 Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 I am sorry. I discovered the article after I had posted. I will remember that next time!
MidwestTV 1270 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Oh thank goodness. Interesting fact, WSEE provides weather for One Caribbean Weather. They may also provide some news too, not too sure about that one.
bhratbrat 437 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Oh the Caribbean. What a wonderful and weird place for TV News. In 2010: WSEE only did the weather updates for the Caribbean CBS stations on satellite and did not do any news. ABC/NBC was handled in New York by the respective local stations and FOX was handled by FOX Latin America In 2014: (at least in Haiti) WPLG handles the ABC affiliation (through I think someone's house that has Dish Network) while FOX is handled by WNYW. No NBC or CBS although the default would be WNBC/WSEE

No adjustments to their on-air presentation, nor have they fed in a special VI-specific feed yet.
Brain 81 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I thought someone said the old set now they debuted in 2012 was supposed to be from BDI?
jbnews 346 Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 I don't remember. But a few months ago I came across it on Erector Sets website. I am glad they are getting BDI. It will probably look much better. So, I have a question. How nice would a $150,000 set from BDI be? State of the art for a market like Erie? What are you guys' thoughts?

What are you guys' thoughts? $150,000 is really on the cheaper end when it comes to news sets. Also I have no idea why they're mentioning a price. Nobody cares. I'm guessing they're just trying to show off. I don't know what constitutes "state-of-the-art" in Erie, but with a figure like that, I wouldn't expect it to be anything too special. Monitor arrays and LED walls and not much else probably. It'll be impressive for a small market, but probably won't be anything we haven't already seen elsewhere.
jbnews 346 Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 Yeah, I knew $150,000 wasn't expensive, but it will probably look very nice for Erie. I can't wait to see it. Now they just need new graphics (they look terrible.)
Brain 81 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 jbnews, yeah, their graphics are terrible, they make me want to puke.

That set comes with 3 pronged grounded outlets, USB ports and is also UL listed.

Well considering their other competitor is a small-market ABC/Fox duopoly run by Nexstar, it wouldn't take much to make it special. But considering what they look like now, they have a long way to even look remotely decent compared to the Nexstar duopoly: http://www.erienewsnow.com/category/205182/news I feel so sorry for the Erie market, they deserve better than this.
jbnews 346 Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Yes, we do deserve better. I am really hoping this set will look nice and I really think it will. I think they should also get new graphics, music, and logo . Their current graphics and music (This is Home), a package which I like, they just got in October, but to better improve their product, they should get new ones. I think the Guardian/graphic combination on KIRO would look good on them.

Well thing is Erie used to be a lot bigger market than it is today. I guess they had a lot to lose. Its not the 60s and 70s anymore.
jbnews 346 Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 I think someday, Erie will be a bigger market. With the comprehensive plan and everything they are starting to work on to improve the area.
Brain 81 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Sorry but what are you talking about? And when they say they will improve the area, haven't they been saying this for years already?
jbnews 346 Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 But they are making more drastic progress. For example, the planning commission just endorsed the comprehensive plan yesterday. I see change in Erie's future.
Brain 81 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 I don't think that is how the Nielsen DMA ratings work!
jbnews 346 Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 I know that is not how DMA's work. There has to be a population increase/decrease, etc. Erie is working towards increasing the population which I think they will.

Just look at how quickly Las Vegas jumped DMA's in the 90's and 2000's. The new civic chant for Erie can be... "Get Humping Erie".
