This week, on Wednesday, she said goodbye after her 28-year run with the BBC.

This was the last 20 minutes of this past Wednesday's BBC Breakfast programme.

A new set for ITV News on Westcountry Television. It looks amazing and if that's what ITV's future regional news sets will look like, then I'll be intrigued as to how it will be interpreted everywhere else.

LIVE from New York, its Saturday Night! on CTV.

For the the first time in decades, SNL is leaving Global in favor of CTV.

EDIT: I read that it'll simulcast on both NBC and CTV, so I wonder what CTV will do with their 11pm news hour on Saturdays since they air local news at 11:30pm in three markets plus thr 11pm CTV National News.

🐂 Spain (Running of the Bulls, that's why)

Not a broadcaster, but possibly the Martin Lambie-Nairn (and much more) of Spain, José María Cruz Novillo, the Spanish sculptor, painter, and designer, has passed away at the age of 89.

In terms of broadcasting, he designed the current logo of one of Spain's national newspapers El Mundo (The World), the current logo of the radio network Cadena COPE (COPE Network), the first-ever logo of Antena 3 (first in radio in 1982, later defunct in 1994, and then used for television in 1990), and the TVE1 eyeball logo from 1982-1989.

Germany (I'm on my laptop. The Windows emojis don't contain country emojis, whereas my phone's Samsung Galaxy does, which is why there's no country emoji here).

Starting in January 2027, public broadcasters ARD and ZDF will be jointly operating their cable/satellite channels, instead of each having its own, to streamline their operations.

The channels going away on December 31st, 2026:

  • ARD-alpha, a channel that broadcasts educational programmes including science, religion, music, philosophy, literature, language learning, art, and culture. Some of the programs come from ARD's regional broadcaster in Munich, Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), as well as from Austria's national broadcaster, ORF.
  • Tagesschau24, ARD's 24-hour national news network. The channel is managed by ARD's regional broadcaster in Hamburg, Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR).
  • One, which concentrates on entertainment, and the channel's content is very largely made up of repeat broadcasts of programmes already shown on other ARD channels, national and regional: this includes cinema and television films, drama series, documentaries, reports, magazines, and music programmes (especially rock and pop). This channel is managed by ARD's regional broadcaster in Cologne, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR).

The channels that will survive and rebrand starting January 1st, 2027:

  • Phoenix, which will become the main news channel for both ARD and ZDF, replacing Tagesschau24 on the ARD side. ARD and WDR will manage this channel.
  • ZDFneo, which will become simply Neo, a channel for young adults, replacing ARD's One. ZDF will manage this channel.
  • ZDFinfo, which will become simply Info, a documentary channel, replacing ARD-alpha. ZDF will manage this channel as well.

Other television channels such as Arte (German feed), 3sat (led by ZDF), and KiKA (led by ARD and its regional broadcaster in Leipzig, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR)), as well as the streaming service Funk (led by ARD and its regional broadcaster in Stuttgart, Südwestrundfunk (SWR)), will remain as is since they're already operating jointly.

Some of this information I got from Wikipedia.

After a six-and-a-half year absence, Sports Tonight is coming back home to Network 10, this time as a segment on 10's Late News. It begins next week on the 25th of May with Max Burford and Adrian Franklin.

This is the third time the program will be aired on Network 10's airwaves, having first done so from 1993-2011, which gave us the legendary Tim Webster and Leigh Diffey (yes, the same one you now see and hear on NBC Sports today), and then again briefly in 2018 and 2019.

Céline Galipeau, who in 2009 took over the weeknight anchoring duties for the legendary Bernard Derome (who anchored the program twice in his own right) on Le Téléjournal on ICI Radio-Canada Télé, is expected to step down from anchoring the program in favor of hosting a new international news program for ICI RDI.

She'll anchor her last Telejournal on June 18th and then start her new show in September, which will air Friday nights on ICI RDI. Currently, there's no word as to who will replace her on the flagship broadcast.

Galipeau has been with Radio-Canada since 1984, 42 years now, and has done Le Téléjournal for 17 of those years.

Speculation: I can see Claudine Bourbonnais, anchor of the weekend Téléjournal, getting the main weeknight gig, if she wants it.

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if even the standalone program expected to run during the FIFA World Cup period won't be quite enough to stop Ten slipping into 5th place behind SBS at that point in time!

Interestingly enough, Tim Webster took over 2SM Breakfast from another ex-Ten presenter in Ron Wilson (who after defecting from top rating music station Smooth 95.3 where he was a newsreader for ages, only lasted six months!) but that's for another time and topic.

Which was a more panel-based format with analysis and commentary, as opposed to being an extended version of a news bulletin's Sport segment.

Perhaps the revived Sports Tonight might find a niche amongst hard-core sports followers, but I have a feeling the original format (which the new version is expected to be closer to than the 2018/19 incarnation) might be considered somewhat redundant in this day and age.

Spain

RTVE, one of the broadcasters that had boycotted the Eurovision 2026, had aired the statement regarding why they decided not to broadcast the show before the newscast ‘Telediairo’, at same day the Grand Final begins.

https://www.esc-plus.com/rtve-broadcasts-a-message-in-defense-of-human-rights-in-palestine-at-the-start-of-the-eurovision-2026-grand-final/

This year the show was overshadowed with Israeli participation, with five broadcasters boycotting the show:

RUV in Iceland

RTE in Ireland

AVROTROS in the Netherlands

RTV SLO in Slovenia

RTVE in Spain

The Netherlands and Iceland would broadcast the show, but the former was broadcast via NOS in NPO1. The Netherlands has its unique public broadcasting system. Other broadcasters choose not to broadcast at all.

I'd probably think that Spain, Ireland and Slovenia didn't broadcast the result either.
