news89 468 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I will say this first. I been keeping this under my wraps and monitoring the on air changes til it was official. In the past few weeks they have been slowly taking the current set apart. I came across the morning anchor John Anderson IG feed today and noticed a picture was posted. 1st pic is from Dec 28th. The upstairs set is still intacted. 2nd pic is from Jan 5th. Upstairs is gone expect the frames. And floor is cut. 3rd is wide shot of the set and studio.

news89 468 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 something about that studio gives me anxiety The backbone of the set dates back when WKYC moved to the current location in middle of early 2001.

I think it's because there are really large elements in what appears to be a small space, so everything (to me) seems disproportionate and claustrophobic. If those large angled beams were farther back maybe it would "feel" better. How big is that studio? It seems long but lacking much depth.
TexasTVNews 1379 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Oh, I have a very good feeling what kind of set WKYC is getting. Oh, let me guess... Tegna-set-in-a-box.

TSSZNews 1053 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I always thought WKYC's newsroom set was one of the best in the country, that got ruined when they went half weird semi-transparent duratrans, half newsroom backdrop.
rkolsen 1697 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 It looked nice from the few times I caught their newscast. With the open studio and newsroom backdrop I am intrigued at how the TEGNA set will be adapted. Unless of course they decide to close off the space or there’s a secondary studio.
Breaking News 849 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I remember when management at WKYC said years ago they weren't going to change their set because the competition or the company wanted them to get those mandate Gannett sets....They were happy with what they had, oh but now a different tune.....hmmmm. I hope it not crap like the others....I don't think KARE 11 in MSP getting a new set anytime soon.

I hope it not crap like the others....I don't think KARE 11 in MSP getting a new set anytime soon. KARE kind of sparked (maybe not sparked but they were the first wave) the new set trend for TEGNA. The only difference was that their set was either designed in house or locally. The only thing I think is similar is how KAREs desk is a guitar pick like shape that has been expanded upon at other sets. Edited to add context.
news89 468 Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 The station is up to something. Part of the row of desks in the newsroom have be cleared out and you can now see the assignment desk.
NEOMatrix 1308 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 If it weren't for the bizarre duratrans and crappy "3" desk, WKYC's set could've aged very gracefully. As it stands, I hope they get something cool but this is Tegna, so...
news89 468 Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 This answers the question on what WKYC has been up to with the studio/newsroom. The weather center did get new carpet this week. I believe maybe newsroom stand up area. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10215366894662479
Rusty Muck 4438 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Good time to debut it would be after the lures of the Big Game... Dumb question, because it’s been said quite a bit, but... does this set for WKYC have any hints of the TEGNA “set-in-a-box” style?
LivefromNewYork 37 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Pretty psyched about those Tegna graphics on the set This answers the question on what WKYC has been up to with the studio/newsroom. Rusty Muck 4438 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Pretty psyched about those Tegna graphics on the set Yeah, people were asking on that Facebook post what the "L" stood for...
news89 468 Posted February 5, 2018 Author Posted February 5, 2018 Did it debut? It's the the same set just modified. They added 2 new stand up area in newsroom. Also added large monitor wall in the main studio area.
