roscoryan 21
I'm guessing the link was to archive.org's WaybackMachine: https://archive.org/ For instance, here is WCCO's website from 20 years ago in 1998: https://web.archive.org/web/19980508014057/http://www.channel4000.com:80/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16608-old-station-websites/#findComment-210471 Share on other sites

tyrannical bastard 3948
Ah the former Internet Broadcasting System sites....so many stations just waited around for them to put them on the web. Cleveland was a straggler. WJW had a so-called website in late 1995 that went away soon after (they partnered with local firm). The first station to go full-on with a website was WBNX in late 1996. Next was WKYC partnering with Cleveland.com, and then NewsNet5.com (put on by IBSYS). WOIO had a so-called site through CBS's effort at the time...cbsnow.com. Finally in 1999, Fox put WJW on the web once and for all with their cookie-cutter site (that lasted all the way into the MyFox era) and WKYC finally got a site of their own. And later in 2000, WOIO and WUAB finally partnered with WorldNow to go up on the web.... tyrannical bastard 3948
Not going to lie....the WSYX/WTTE "SuperCast" site made me throw up a little in my mouth.... Some of Sinclair's sites were only a generation ahead of these before the were only overhauled when they became "YUUUGE!" A very spartan site compared to what WCMH and WBNS were putting out at the time. Around then was when NBC gave up on their content initiatve and went IBSYS. Soon after they ditched WCMH4.com, they went to the more brand-friendly NBC4COLUMBUS.com...and then finally... NBC4i.com All of the Sinclair sites were WXXX(ch).com under their SuperCast sites. It would be years later before Columbus would be saddled with ABC6OnYourSide.com and MyFox28Columbus.com... At least Nexstar didn't force LovingLivingLocal4Columbus.com on us! ToriElectra 292
The WGN screenshot must have been after they dropped the WB on the Superstation feed. I don't see listings for it anywhere... the Tribune sites were a bit of a mess at the time And strangely, they had a kids section despite only having Bozo the Clown (they only carried Kids WB on the superstation feed at that point; WGN proper didn't pick it up until 2004, it had been on WCIU prior to then). Fun fact: NBC held onto WCMH's domain long after the sale to Media General closed. It wasn't until 2013 that the trademark was finally handed over from NBC Universal to Media General.. the domain was handed over in 2006. Media General took NBC to court over it, in fact. http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2006/d2006-0964.html Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16608-old-station-websites/#findComment-211403 Share on other sites

sctvhound 27
WCSC”s site from February 2000. They were the last station to start a site even though they are the leader in the area. WCIV’s dates back to 1996 with a local provider called “A World of Difference.” WCBD’s website in March 2001. All of the links still work! Ntropolis 596
I love these. I've been familiar with archive.org forever, but it's fun to see screenshots.
