TheRolyPoly 2415
https://changingnewscasts.wordpress.com/2015/11/01/kyou-adding-local-news-900-pm-tomorrow/ The bigger news (at least for me anyway since I lived in the market) is that in Market 200, there is now a competitor to the previous monopoly Sinclair-owned KTVO had on the Kirksville-Ottumwa market. Starting yesterday, American Spirit/Raycom-owned KYOU has a 7-minute long newscast at 9pm. Plans are to eventually expand it to a 30 minute long newscast in the next couple of weeks. I am trying to get more details but it looks like that a portion of it (at least the weather part) will be based out of Cincinnati's WXIX. The irony in all of this is that Raycom used to own their competitor KTVO until they sold it to Barrington back in 2006. Hence why KYOU is owned by American Spirit instead of Raycom itself. Here is the new logo. If it's the standard Raycom production quality, that will probably force Sinclair to finally bring Curves and the new graphics to KTVO. I never thought I'd see the day that KTVO would have a competitor but I guess with Iowa being such a political battleground state these days, a news operation in Iowa is too difficult to pass up. Yeah. It will be 30 minutes by next week, but for right now, its 7 minutes with the rest of the hour filled by Crime Watch Daily. It seems like the new operation is coming out from WXIX 19, but I'm totally not sure. At least the weather part will be. Eventually, a full 30-minute newscast is coming by next week with a repeat broadcast being added at 11:00 p.m. at the same time. Details NOW on my blog. swillh2k2 203
Speaking of DC, LiveWell is finally dead here. The subchannel was replaced by a sci-fi channel called "Comet," owned 50/50 by Sinclair and MGM. Saw a commercial for it last night where I live. WMYA (the MyNetwork TV affiliate here) has picked it up for their .2. Samantha 2895
Entravision brought the news ax down in various cities. Its news for Tampa will be produced from Orlando, and its news for New Mexico will be produced from Denver. It also slashed weekend newscasts in Washington, DC. In keeping with our Spanish-language theme, we have a resolution to that lawsuit between owners of a station joint venture in Puerto Rico. A Miami-Dade County jury this week ruled that Omar Romay, founder of América TeVe, neglected his fiduciary duties and failed to act in good faith, ordering him to pay $59 million. The case had a three-week trial and this should bring an end to five years of litigation. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16860-out-about/page/125/#findComment-139051 Share on other sites

The 11pm newscast is originated from San Diego's KBNT, billed as a "regional newscast" that covers San Diego, Palm Springs and El Centro. They still have some presence in Palm Springs and El Centro in the form of anchors/reporters. Not sure if they plan on combining additional newscasts. I should add that Entravision also eliminated KBNT's weekend newscasts several years ago. They also operate Telemundo San Diego/Tijuana. swillh2k2 203
Within the past week or so (for the first time since Granite abolished it a few years ago for cost-cutting purposes), WKBW has begun live-streaming its newscasts. TheRolyPoly 2415
Another WTVT anchor is hanging up the mic. Denise White is retiring the day before Thanksgiving. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/denise-white-announces-retirement-from-wtvt/158453 I remember her through research that she and ironically enough, Frank Robertson (retired), anchored WSVN's NewsCenter 7 - LIVE at 5:00 together and the two end up working together again when Denise moved to WTVT and reunited with Frank again on WTVT's 5pm news when it was a 3-person crew with Frank's husband, Kathy Fountain (another retiree). This is who WTVT has lost in the past year: Anne Dwyer (this past Summer, June 18th, 2014) John Wilson (the day before Thanksgiving last year) Denise White (the day before Thanksgiving this year) Man, WTVT 13 is losing some very good people. And I love WTVT 13. Very sad that she's leaving. I'll miss her there. But now, who will replace her? 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16860-out-about/page/125/#findComment-139235 Share on other sites

TheRolyPoly 2415
Thanksgiving will never be the same. At least at WTVT. Now it seems like every long-timer at WTVT wants to retire the day before Thanksgiving. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16860-out-about/page/125/#findComment-139238 Share on other sites
