tyrannical bastard 4018 Posted January 11, 2022 Author Posted January 11, 2022 Good old WNEP. For all of the love the music gets across Northeastern and ALL of Central Pennsylvania... They still get the callers who can't stand when the lottery numbers come on... 14
NEPANews 52 Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Looks like they’ve dusted off the ol’ Action 16 moniker from the 70s-2000s for their new investigative reporting. I feel like it’s the first we’ve seen any WNEP branding onscreen without the big surrounding box and call letters for quite a while. Doesn’t look bad. 4

They had another one of these segments on the 11:00 p.m. newscast, 8/4/22, beginning after the 23 minute mark. The first guy complains about the theme music, the next woman thinks that people from out of state should be banned from buying lottery tickets and they keep joking about the theme music right into the commercial. Hilarious. . Edited August 5, 2022 by DirtyHarry 2
tyrannical bastard 4018 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Posted August 5, 2022 WNEP is doing what avid fans of the station have done for years.... They're uploading old newscasts of theirs to YouTube, and even featuring them on their OTT feeds! I don't know if "Talkback 16" went back that far, but it would be interesting if it did! 3

tyrannical bastard 4018 Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 I've noticed the Tegna "music" creeping into in-show bumpers.....has anyone complained about THAT? 1
susquvalleywgal 520 Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Well, which one of us called into WNEP TalkBack Feedback, as a 80-year old person complaining about the word NXT? LOL 1 8 1

LOL TBH, the first caller is my spirit animal. But seriously, if someone tease a story as "next" it better be the first story after the break. It's slightly forgivable if it's second or even third (if the preceding stories are maybe short VOs), but if a story is teased as "next" but is multiple stories later or even several blocks later, it's super annoying. At least some viewers notice if not a lot, and I'd argue it adds to distrust of "the media". 3 1
Geoffrey 872 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 I agree with both callers. (Neither one was me!) 1
NEPANews 52 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Talkback 16 strikes again with hard hitting discussion on the issues affecting all of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Todays topic: Pronouncing Wilkes-Barre Talkback 16: The gift that keeps on giving. 8
GodfreyGR 685 Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 WNEP is making news for a test of the election ticker that broadcast on-air over the weekend... And the station has issued a statement about it 1

And the station has issued a statement about it This was an error, but one that could easily have been avoided by master control, given how RWNJs predictably reacted online. Also, the layout of WNEP’s ticker looks very similar to Hearst’s election results tickers, down to the bracket-style separator.
DENDude 221 Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Tegna's ticker does look a lot like what Hearst uses for it's stations, KUSA & KTVD have been using this style of election ticker since 2020.
NEPANews 52 Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 (edited) From the perspective of an NEP weekday producer at the station that I know, they acknowledged that it was indeed a genuine mistake for the testing to air on live feed, and when the crew there saw it, they were very much like “oh sh*t,” and rushed it off. However, folks have expressed their internal disappointment and frustration with the situation, as TEGNA suits are pretty miffed someone could’ve made such an error, given the current political climate. Not at all the attention they want. Edited November 1, 2024 by NEPANews 4

You'd think they would have a regular standard of appropriate access for various workgroups. 1
