True, but the discussion/topic is about KDKA overall graphic package which is why i highlighted what WTAE did in comparison.

While other CBS O&Os are using corporate colors in the standardized graphics and animations, looks like KDKA wanted something of their own in that package. More like the colors of both the Steelers and the Penguins

Don’t forget the Pittsburgh Pirates there MLB Team of Major League Baseball. They really use it because of the pirate lingo of black and gold...

This. Some of the animations aren't even done correctly and the yellow bar is all blown out. It just looks like a last-minute change that some ill-advised manager pushed through.

Also, I'm surprised nobody's pointed out that their lower thirds are now very similar to those of WPXI's.

I guess this kills off the idea that a new graphics package is on the way. They wouldn't do this if they thought it would all go away in a few months.

KDKA updated their Weather Graphics today to match the new "Pittsburgh" look. The First Picture is From Chief Meteorologist Ray Petelin. The Others I took with my Capture Card.

Just finished recording KDKA-TV's NEW 7:30 light news Newscast

I understand they’re going for a bold and unique look. But there’s just way too much black, which makes the graphics too harsh on the eyes. It’s like the original graphics were modified using MS Paint and someone had way too much fun with the paint bucket tool and filled everything with black. Inverting the black to white and white to black would make the graphics 100000000x better, in my opinion.

Overall, the look isn't horrible, but it could use some improvement.  I don't like the contrasting shades of yellow between the animation and the "2", since it's combining bright yellow and gold.  Even worse is some of the colors they force into the look, like the green and gold, and it really looks bad with the green CW bug on their shows.

I agree. If they did to these what they did to the headers on the weather graphics, it would be much more visually appealing.

Is it against the CW brand/style guide to recolor the CW bug to gold? I’ve seen XETV (before they lost the CW affiliation) with a blue CW logo, but I can’t think of another example... But yes, they should ditch the yellow and just stick with gold.

They could do a gold on black or black on gold with the headers to keep the theme going.

If they're going to do a "light" newscast, they should brand it as such. The normal open is too intense to set the mood right.

 

They need something like KGW is doing at 7pm:

It's like Evening/PM Magazine should make a comeback. 

All these stations and groups have all of this "content" from other places that belongs in shows like these instead of yet another newscast.
