JTT 133 Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 This is my opinion of what their anchor lineup should look like Today in LA be the same Midday Report & 3PM Annabelle Sedano 4 & 6pm Carolyn Johnson & Robert Kovacik 5 & 11pm Colleen Williams & Michael Brownlee 7pm Robert Kovacik Weekend mornings & evenings remain the same The station should add a new newscast on the weekends. A new sports show with Mario Solis & Olivia Garvey should be created and air after sports programming on weekends usually at 3pm local & should last about an hour. The station should also create a new subchannel called knbc + airing a combination of news & locally produced programs. 1

For example, most sports programming from the network ends at 3pm local time. The station usually have infomercials right after sports programming. Instead of that, why not just air sports related programming locally between 3-4pm. Then have their regular programming afterwards. Or they should start their afternoon / evening news early then. They more or less tried that early in the digital subchannel era, it was called "News Raw", on channel 4.4; it lasted for at least a year or two before KNBC eventually did away with it. They could try to expand The Challenge to be a year-round show, and have it air weekend afternoons after network sports coverage. However, at the same time, there's really no time to air such a show (consistently), certainly on Sunday afternoons during NFL season without bumping whatever syndicated show they have at 3pm and Nightly News at 3:30; often times, NBC would run a live sports event as a direct lead-in to Football Night in America. It'll be even moreso once the NBA returns back to the network next season, where they will be Sunday night games weekly after the NFL season. There is also still an outside possibility that NBC could go after ESPN's Sunday Night MLB package, although ESPN can still renew. 1

KCBS doesn't have their sports central show consistently either. They have it when they have no other programming & it's better than airing infomercials at that time. 1 1

First, you have to subtract the amount you're getting for the infomercial. So this venture is already in the hole. Then you need to add talent costs; the KABC and KCBS shows have outside talent in addition to the sports anchor. Then you have to sell it to an advertiser or two. KCBS and KABC seem to have a couple of car dealers they can call on when they want to do additional programming. I haven't seen anything consistent on KNBC. So, it's a tough ask. Additional opinion that no one asked for: "The Challenge" is bad enough 17 weeks a year, expanding it would benefit nobody. 2 1

No. It was a dig at "The Challenge." They'd need to come up with a better format if they want to make something work on a weekly basis. 2

I do agree with you as far as the current formatting of that show...the old format with Fred Roggin and Petros Papadakis (an acquire taste for some) was better. 1 1

FiveNews 482 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 KNBC is in the newsroom this afternoon/evening. If they brodacast from the newsroom they usually keep a tight single shot or double shot. I have never seen them take the three shot when Eric Leonard comes on. You get a wider view of the newsroom. Not sure if there were technical issues in the studio or if it's short term for the Olympics/Super Bowl. It looks like they may have pulled the old anchor desk out of storage.

FiveNews 482 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) Not at all. No opens for the 4p, 5p, 6p, and 7p news. I was asleep by the 11p. Graphics were minimal and just like the video above they took this weird three shot during all afternoon shows when the reporter came to the desk to front their story/package. Credit to the KNBC team. Colleen and Kathy are market veterans and to the normal viewer, they made it seem as if everything was smooth sailing behind the scenes. Edited February 7 by FiveNews
