WITI Goes O&O

Apparently WITI was one of the very last stations in the country still using Opus, the homebrew newsroom software that Tribune scraped together during bankruptcy.

iNEWS may be a time warp back to 1995, but I guess at least it gets the job done.

After seeing it for the first time online nearly 15 years ago, they're finally using the "Kitebox" logo on at least the mic flags.

No description available.

They're looking pretty good. Waiting for the weather graphics to get updated to match...

Right they’re still on the last weather graphics. And that logo uses the new font and everything.

Here’s a better look.......

They should've gotten the three-sided horizontal flags similar to what Fox 11 have in LA.

Also, going back to that 6pm vid from last night, Is the vamp music (after the open) is one of the themes from Arnold's Extreme? So, this is a modern-day Magnum, huh?

The 6 seems so clean without the searchlights. However, I’m getting WTVJ vibes off that 6 instead of WBRC and XETV’s 6 instead.

It's Helvetica Neue the same exact 6 from WTVJ's old logo before 2012

Not quite as jarring of a transition as previous ones, since the music was already Stephen Arnold's Beyond. Also, the majority of the visual "quirkiness" of WITI was excised when they implemented the Tribune/WDAF graphics package.

They occasionally still have a Magnum sting pop up here and there (mainly during the overnight rundown on WakeUp), and on the overnight news replay, the 'previously recorded' flag still is from the pre-WDAF graphics, along with a T&T bug during some live news events.

ETA - The late night newscast replay has the pre-WDAF T&T design wedged into the new graphics...along with an oddly-kerned Fox logo (note the 'X') which suggests they had to jerryrig the new logo design into the old 'FOX6 News/FOX6 Milwaukee/FOX6NOW.com' carousel logo template.

A final update to this thread so much longer later; they've switched the weather system to the O&O system as of July 20, 2022. Now to wait for the station to hit FoxNow full-time.

I will say it is one of the cleanest versions of the O&O graphics... Other stations should adopt this instead of the gaudier red and blue graphics

Those just look like they took the existing Tribune weather graphics and changed the fonts... probably why they look better than most of the rest of the O&Os.
