Roadrunner 216
INDIANAPOLIS: DuJuan McCoy, owner and CEO of Circle City Broadcasting, plans to launch the Multicultural News Network (MNN), a "non-partisan national news network" dedicated to (including, but not limited to) the Black, Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern, Native American, and LGBTQ voices and communities. Content will be delivered by those from each respective community. MNN will be based in Indianapolis in the same facility housing WISH and WNDY. Most notably, McCoy has partnered with Cox Media Group for resources, including stations, newsrooms, and news bureau resources. McCoy has ambitions of making MNN in Indianapolis into what CNN is now (or has been) in Atlanta. The new network is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2021. who?cares 254
There is plenty of space at 1950 North Meridian since the Nexstar hub is now at WXIN/WTTV on Indy's northwest side. MidwestTV 1232
People are failing to realize this is intended to be a very niche operation looking to serve highly under-covered communities and demographics or communities/demographics that are often portrayed in a negative light by the existing networks. If you're a minority, hearing there's a planned news network whose goal is to exclusively cover minorities like you and bring attention to things that are often overlooked is pretty exciting. Yes, it'll be hard to get up and going and keep going, but the fact the effort is being made at all is commendable. The U.S. has a huge history of minority news operations (mainly newspapers from way back when) and magazines that virtually no one is aware of. Or for that matter, like with Native Americans, serving groups that aren't represented much in television news reporting. And that's the thing that makes me kind of skeptical about this channel, speaking as a half-Mexican. The idea of a news channel that props up ignored minorities sounds nice, but this sort of thing rarely comes off as genuine, as the failure of Fusion can tell you. We're not really looking for a news source that panders to us. We just want news that doesn't BS us with spin and shilling, and corporate America tends to screw that up royally all the time. Still, the fact that they're actively promoting it as non-partisan does give me a little hope.
