Spring Rubber 700
Looks like as of today, Fox Weather added a Steadicam to their main studio setup. They have been using it to do broad, sweeping transitions between the OCM standing at the large video wall and the OCM standing at the small monitor, and they have been also using it for "action" shots at the large video wall where the camera is constantly moving back and forth while the OCM presents at the video wall. Still images don't do a Steadicam justice, but here's an example from the Steadicam today. Spring Rubber 700
Taking a page out of TWC's book of what they do in the day(s) leading up to a tropical landfall, Steve Bender is co-hosting America's Weather Center from the field today in Miami. For whatever reason, he took the creative liberty of standing next to his own live program monitor. Ah ok, so the monitor was intended to be used for weather maps, and perhaps they had the monitor set to the wrong source in the opening segment. Either way, the monitor is still kinda dark out there in the bright sun. I'm starting to call foul on the network because I was watching yesterday and noticed that the second and third hours of America's Weather NOW, outside of a TOTH update, were bascially repeats but FOX Weather called it live on its bug when it really wasn't. Like, shit. I feel like I need to watch WeatherNation more and more as a result. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18085-fox-weather/page/14/#findComment-273831 Share on other sites

A lot of 'storm chaser' vehicles usually have a screen on an arm attached to the hatchback door to present a forecast outdoors...but they're usually always set to a very vivid mode and they usually use known brand name sets (often weatherproofed) with a very low-profile bezel. This one is a closeout 720p special (this one, specifically, a 24" 720p model with RCA and VGA hookups, and a '3.4 mm headphone output' (!); the brand is called Furrion, which specializes in RV TVs no sensible person would ever consider)...whoever picked out that unit should be fired; that's unacceptable even for one of those back-set monitors that plays a competitor station for decor. Even a damned iPad mini would be better than that POS. Do better, Fox. Spring Rubber 700
They just interspersed about 3 minutes of live coverage from WSVN into their coverage. Pleasantly surprised to see them taking video from a non-O&O. 23 hours ago, mrschimpf said: A lot of 'storm chaser' vehicles usually have a screen on an arm attached to the hatchback door to present a forecast outdoors...but they're usually always set to a very vivid mode and they usually use known brand name sets (often weatherproofed) with a very low-profile bezel. Haven't seen them use it since yesterday afternoon. Maybe they realized how bad it looked on the air and are now rethinking their purchase. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18085-fox-weather/page/14/#findComment-273886 Share on other sites

More neutral. While FNC and Fox Nation personalities do appear on the network from time to time, they’re more for lifestyle and outdoorsy material, and Fox Weather is more reliant on the newsroom side of FNC and the O&Os/affiliates. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18085-fox-weather/page/14/#findComment-273958 Share on other sites

The logo was lined up with the lower thirds in the first few months of the network, and then over the winter, they added the lower display line with weather forecasts for cities nationwide. After that point, the logo hadn't been aligned with the L3s for the past few months. By moving the live bug beneath the logo, everything is aligned again. Spring Rubber 700
Fox Weather has been experimenting with completely dumping long-form from their weekend afternoon/evening schedule. After doing their preemption for PTC One last Saturday, programming last Sunday and both Saturday and Sunday this weekend has consisted solely of the "Fox Weather LIVE" automated loop of weather maps throughout the entirety of weekend afternoons and evenings. Edit: Looks like they're still doing long form on Sundays after 8pm ET. I suppose it's a sensible time for that sort of programming. I've been watching FOX Weather alot this weekend and it looks like that's here to stay because, once again, they aired FOX Weather LIVE from 12:00-8:00 p.m. yesterday and it seems like they're doing the same for today as well. Long-form is still airing from 8:00-11:00 p.m. but I prefer FOX Weather LIVE over the other stuff The Weather Channel likes to air from 1:00-8:00 p.m. on weekends anyways. Seeing FOX Weather cutting back on long-form programming is a nice thing for a change, just not 24/7 WeatherNation, AccuWeather NOW or TWC-ES type of coverage just yet. Spring Rubber 700
New OCM Michael Estime made his debut on America's Weather Now tonight, filling in for Nick Kosir. https://www.foxweather.com/person/e/michael-estime I'm not sure what the "FAST" weather service is that's mentioned in his bio. Can't find anything online about it either. Perhaps it's some new product that's about to launch? TheRolyPoly 2362
@Spring RubberIt looks like the new weekend schedule is permanent. Just checked the schedule for today and tomorrow, it will be the third weekend in a row that FOX Weather will air FOX Weather LIVE from 12:00-8:00 p.m. along with its usual 11:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. + 5:00-6:00 a.m. airings and, of course Night Light from 1:00-5:00 a.m. The 8:00-11:00 p.m. hours seem to be various programs each weekend. For example, last weekend at 9:00 p.m. was FOX Weather Wild, but this weekend, it will be a special Tracking The Tropics with Bryan Norcross. Also, at 10:00 p.m., it was Park'd with Abby Hornacek (a FOX Nation thing) but this weekend, its FOX Weather Reports. So, it will be various programs during the 8:00-11:00 p.m. timeframe, as in long-form programming. But overall, FOX Weather is now airing more current weather programming on weekends. EDIT: Here's what the new weekend schedule entails... 6:00AM-12:00PM: America's Weather Weekend 12:00-08:00 PM: FOX Weather LIVE 08:00-11:00 PM: Various Programming (this could be FOX Weather Reports, FOX Weather Rewind, Tracking The Tropics, etc.; changes week to week) 11:00PM-1:00AM: FOX Weather LIVE 01:00-05:00 AM: Night Light 05:00-06:00 AM: FOX Weather LIVE Edited June 27, 2022 by TheRolyPoly Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18085-fox-weather/page/14/#findComment-274552 Share on other sites
Spring Rubber 700
Fox Weather is now using two separate OCM teams on America's Weather Weekend: 6am-10am ET: Craig Herrera and Amy Freeze (Michael Estime filling in for Amy today) 10am-12pm ET: Steve Bender and Kiyana Lewis Then it looks like Kiyana Lewis sticks around to provide occasional weather updates during the automated Fox Weather Live. Seems like since they're adding Steve and Kiyana to weekends now, it's a missed opportunity to not provide fully-live weather programming until 1pm or 2pm ET, instead having them only work two fully-live hours of programming. Spring Rubber 700
New camera angle in use at the WOFL studio to match the type of camera angle that's typically used in the NYC studios. It's quite up close and personal, so up close, in fact, that you can't exactly use full lower thirds with headlines on them. They have to use just "slim" lower thirds in order to keep most the monitor visible. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/18085-fox-weather/page/14/#findComment-275034 Share on other sites

I mean, hell, TWC stops at 1pm so that 2pm hour would kick their butts. Spring Rubber 700
Effective today, America's Weather Weekend now runs until 2pm ET. Steve Bender and Kiyana Lewis anchor the 10am-2pm ET portion. One of them still stays afterward for an unknown amount of time to provide top and bottom of the hour updates during Fox Weather Live from 2pm ET onwards. They have updated the corner graphic to reflect the new schedule. Spring Rubber 700
As of today, some formatting changes have taken place at Fox Weather: 1) The timeclock for segments has been redone. Instead of the top of the hour segment starting at :00, it now starts at :58, to mirror TWC. They now play the pre-recorded Across America segment with the O&O mets at :58, and then the studio show immediately starts as soon as that segment ends 2) Show opens and teasers are now gone. The top of each hour starts with a quick "Fox Weather TOP STORY" graphic, and they immediately jump into the story. 3) Along with the above change, they seem to be de-emphasizing all of the individual show names. When the OCMs start and close segments, they now say "Welcome back to Fox Weather" instead of "Welcome back to Sky Dome" or "Welcome back to America's Weather Center." I'm noticing that the only place the show names are now seen are on the background behind the anchor desk as well as very rarely on the graphics below the lower thirds. They have gone out of their way to craft a bunch of other "sliver" graphics below the lower thirds in place of the show titles. So far, each show still retains its own music and double box graphics, but we'll see if that lasts. 4) All shift changes now result in a live toss from the OCMs of the previous show to the OCMs of the next show. This happens after the :58 Across America segment wraps up.
