ABC 7 - Makes Minor Changes To Set

Well as of right now, the newscast is being done from the Newsroom with the same setup they had back in June. Right now there is no word on why they are back in the newsroom. I guess there could be some technical difficulties that arose on the main set. The main set was used for this morning's AM and Noon broadcasts. They just started using the newsroom as of this 5PM broadcast.

Maybe latter it will be mentioned on inside the 5.

Or it could be a sign of changes in their studio because Live is doing shows that were previously recorded. This could be a good thing. They might be in their until labor day when their full set is complete. Because I remember just about everyone on this site said that they were getting a new set this fall.

Is there anyone on this site that can confirm this?

Well it seems to be the only logical explanation. I mean they were in their main set at 5AM this morning and during the Noon broadcasts, so why suddenly go into the newsroom for the 5PM broadcast? They are either doing some maintenance work in the main set or perhaps working on the brand new set for the 6 and 11PM broadcasts :)

I may have spoke to soon about this not being planned.

I noticed tonight they are using a 16:9 SD cam in TV room where the reporters are doing their in studio reports from.

If this was un planned event I doubt they would bother to go 16:9 from that room.

Hum....

Yup - the changes are beginning... I can't say much, it'll prob take a little while for everything, but there's new hardware/equiptment being installed in the studio now.... and the rest will come soon.

New graphics/music are coming soon too! :) Stay tuned!

I don't think it would be that great if they used a live shot of Times Square as a backdrop because it is used on Good Morning America and Nightline. Also it would kind of look to much the same from the am news to GMA and the 11:00 news to Nightline. Unless they use another live shot of Times Square.

They are not gonna use the GMA and Nightline Times Square Camera, they are gonna use their very own live shot that that they close the weeknight 6PM broadcasts with :). And since the screen will be a projector, they can change the shot to pretty much anything they want (Well any live camera that they would have I presume). So if everything works as speculated, ABC 7 could perhaps have the best looking set in the New York Market.

What is interesting is how I'll probably never understand why WABC is so secretive about their operations and changes. We can't say that this is an ABC O&O guideline because WLS and KABC have open about the recent changes they made. When WLS made their changes and moved to the State Street Studio in April 2006, viewers were informed months before the changes actually occurred. KABC did the same before they switched their sets and changed into High Definition in January 2006. But this is not the case for WABC, they did not even mention to viewers at all about what is happening. Not even a slight mentioning of the change, lol. I guess its their way of suprising viewers.

I don't know if it was from the newsroom, but it was a temp set. Strangely, when the blackout of 03 happened, WNBC switched from their new HD set back to the temp set. That was roughly 4 months after they moved in to the new set.. I wonder why the reversal.

Does anyone have an estimate on how long they will broadcast from the newsroom until their new set is complete? I'm guessing for about two weeks. I hope it turns out really nice.

I hope they take their time and make it look great though. Again this is just one of the three sets that are supposed to be constructed. They still have the new interview set as well as the current set to rebuild as well. I would have to guess that the new Regis and Kelly Set is being constructed as well in the other studio. I wonder if they are gonna change the look of that set as well or keep it the same as its always been.

Bill confirmed the building of the new set in the weather chat.

And the view will look something like this, ecept much closer to the ground, around 15 stories, not 75!

Edit:

Bill said this in the weather chat:

"It will be great. It's something no one else is doing in the market. I can't tell you what it is quite yet. Sorry."

I told ya guys... even I'm not supposed to be divulging the amount of info that I do... but, since my identity is annoymous here, I can get away with it to a certain extent...

Since Bill is posting on the station website, he can't mention what's going on behind the scenes. As has always been the case, when things change at WABC, it's always tight-lipped....

I'll post whatever info I can... but for now, I've told you what I can.
