Jorge Ramos stepping down from Univision after 4 decades as Noticiero Univision anchor

Jorge Ramos is leaving Univision after not coming to an agreement on a new contract as the current one ends at the end of the year. Sounds like he'll be still doing news en Espanol post-Univision. If it weren't for them switching anchors recently from Jose Diaz-Balart to Julio Vaqueiro with the former focusing more on MSNBC, could've seen Jorge jump over to Telemundo & he still might. https://deadline.com/2024/09/jorge-ramos-exit-univision-1236082636/

I think he left because he was upset at the right-wing stance Univision had taken since that controversial Trump interview a few months ago. Of course it was suspicious because normally every presidential candidate get interviewed by him, it almost required and it wasn’t done by him instead It was Enrique Acevedo it marked a de facto return for him to Univision briefly. Also some Televisa/Univision executives are friends with the former president and they didn’t want Jorge to do the interview because they knew he be tough on Trump. But I think that’s why he is leaving he didn’t want to be apart of that, I do see him walking across the highway to Telemundo.
 

But I don’t think he’ll get the 6:30 newscast over at the T network he might get a digital show or a contributor role, but remember he is 66 so I think Julio Vaquiero will stay in his role because he much younger he can be in the chair for a long time, Ramos could’ve had the Univision lead anchor chair till he died because there was no higher role and his legacy was intact and until December he’s a mainstay so there isn’t a another big job available for him other than contributing role and a digital show should he cross over. .
 

Shot his long time co-anchor Maria is a contributor in English he could do that also for NBCuniversal should he cross over appear on NBC News programs (she of course is on ABC), but the same was for her she also up there in age too she can’t really get an big anchor job either. So I think he’ll have limited opportunity. That why he said in his announcement “he’ll announce other professional opportunities, after he leaves”.

 

As for Univision they blew it for Leon Krause who left after that Trump interview he was most likely going to replace him should Jorge in an event he retired but obviously that won’t happen because he left before Jorge did. I honestly can’t see a good successor for him Univision could flip to solo format like Telemundo does at 6:30 snd the other networks abd give Ilia managing editor role because she’s the new lead anchor and it’s historic also she the first black lead anchor of a Spanish network.

Maybe he'll become contributor or special correspondent for Telemundo, or even an english news organization if he wanted to. Harry Smith vibes but focused on the hispanic community.

That what I’m saying is most likely just how Maria Elena went to ABC he’ll do the same if he joins NBCUniversal. He is to old for a big anchor job.

But once Jorge Ramos leaves, for the first time ever, Noticiero Univision is going SOLO.

 

It'll just be Ilia Calderón moving forward.

Surprising decision I wonder if other newscasts will follow that format also. They taking a page from Telemundo.

Somebody get the tape recorders to record Univision later tonight (if you have the network; as I post this East Coast time at 12:10am). Its Jorge Ramos' last day.
