Thinking that MSNBC is the only news outlet doing serious political journalism and providing the truth, indicates bias. I don't like this narrative that the media was unfair to Kamala.Trump has been the star of (justifiably) negative news coverage for 9 years. Thinking the media is biased when the shoe is on the other foot behaving like the republicans. That's an unfair assessment of ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN etc. They all repeatedly flag Trump's statements as false, and again provide mostly negative coverage of Trump. None of those networks give the extreme right a platform to freely spread information, or are unfair to Democrats. Take CNN panel discussions. The token outrageous Republican is usually outnumbered by liberals who along with the host fact checks. Example, CBS. Face the Nation: Margaret Brennan interrogated Democrat Governor Wes Moore on Face the Nation for trying to act like Joe Biden's debate performance was "just a bad night." She gave that same energy to the Republican governor of South Dakota who talked about killing her dog. Example: 60 minutes fact checks Arizona election rigging conspiracy. No, Republicans and Democrats are not equivalent in the country's current troubles, but all sides have to be subject to media scrutiny. Overall, if a person says it's raining, and another says it's not, the job of a journalist to go out and determine the weather without fear of offending one side. That I can agree on. I respect and understand what you are saying I just see it a different way. I don't think MSNBC is the only network doing journalism, I just think when it comes to political coverage, there is a concern that the other networks have about appearing biased that impacts their coverage. They have a pressure to not appear right/left leaning and MSNBC doesn't have this concern. With the right shifting so extreme, I think a network like MSNBC is needed. I wouldn't support MSNBC if it was a left wing version of FOX News channel spewing lies, but I really do support having a factual news network featuring left wing opinions unafraid of upsetting the right. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/21573-2024-election-coverage/page/2/#findComment-301612 Share on other sites

MSNBC hosts express left wing opinions, but they still rely on facts. They are not spewing propaganda and lies like FOX News Channel does. FOX News Channel had to pay hundreds of millions in a settlement for spewing lies about the 2020 election and the voting machines, the text messages released in this lawsuit between FOX News hosts and anchors like Bret Baier just proved how this is a network that does zero journalism, it's a propaganda outlet that is terrified of angering its far right audience. They invested millions in 2020 so they could make quicker election calls, and then panicked when their early Arizona election call angered its audience, to the point where they held off calling Nevada for Biden because they didn't want to be first to call an election for Biden, instead choosing to wait to be the last network to make the call. This type of stuff is simply is not happening at MSNBC. There is no denying that MSNBC is news with a left wing view, but it's still news. In my view CNN & NewsNation are not doing responsible journalism by staying in the middle. We don't live in a reality where both political parties are equally bad doing equally bad things at the exact same time. The way CNN, NewsNation, NBC, CBS, ABC etc... go out of their way to criticize and praise both political parties equally all the time just to appear unbiased is so infuriating. CNN can't even agree to fact check a debate because they are scared of looking biased. A great way for CNN to counterprogram against MSNBC & FOX News would be to stop focusing on politics and cover all the other actual news going on, but CNN has instead decided to devote most of its schedule to covering politics and political opinions with people arguing all the time. They deserve their horrible ratings. It's also worth pointing out that MSNBC has actually tried having right wing opinion shows on the network along with left wing shows, and it's a massive failure every single time. It's extremely hard to have a successful news network targeting totally different audiences each hour, networks want to do everything they can to stop people from changing the channel, nothing ensures people will change the channel more than putting a left wing show after or before a show hosted by Ben Shapiro. One of the things that makes MSNBC so enjoyable to watch is the fact that all the hosts & guests get along with each other. It's the total opposite of CNN which at times looks like a Real Housewives reunion special with guests screaming at each other. I couldn't disagree with you more. MSNBC is absolutely the Fox News of the Democratic Party. The amount of stories they run about Trump and Republicans being the end of society is insane. I had two different family members who were addicted to MSNBC and both separately turned it off because they couldn't deal with it. Whatever goes on at MSNBC is not journalism. 1 1 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/21573-2024-election-coverage/page/2/#findComment-301613 Share on other sites
JTT 111
Why doesn't MSNBC just focus on reporting on the actual news of the day, with indepth coverage of breaking news during evening hours, instead of just focusing on politics? The channel can put political opinionated programs, but I feel like they put way too much on the air. I try not to watch the news channels because they're too focused on these types of programs, but when I watch, I turn to msnbc, mainly because I watch NBC for regular news. The main issue with NBC and the other networks are that they don't provide additional reporting & coverage of important events of the day. It's only half an hour in the evening for the major news headlines of the entire country and maybe additional coverage in the morning. That' is why I hope msnbc & cnn would be an an outlet to provide that coverage. Fox News probably won't because what they're doing is not news, just viewpoints from certain personalities. MediaZone4K 2158
The moderators will complain that we're turning this into the MSNBC thread so all in all... Yes one party maybe more of the aggressor in our country's current issues, but all sides have to be subject to vigorous fact-checking and questioning. Yes channels like MSNBC should have room for opposing voices if they are not seeking a bickering match or spreading conspiracies/lies. (Understandably, that last part is going to be extremely difficult to accomplish with the incoming administration).
