MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 1158 Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 (edited) Alabama's Meteorologist James Spann will start his own televised weather network "The Alabama Weather Network" beginning August 11. It will serve all 67 counties of Alabama. As for now, he will still stay with ABC 33/40 as their chief met. Edited July 16, 2025 by MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie added logo 5 2
MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 1158 Posted July 28, 2025 Author Posted July 28, 2025 (edited) As this enterprise starts to go into full swing, they've been making announcements on their Facebook page about their meteorologist team additions. And boy, do they have some big hitters coming... Many names you'll recognize as past colleagues with ABC 33/40: Charles Daniel Ashley Brand John Oldshue Bill Murray Drew McCombs Edited July 28, 2025 by MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 4
tyrannical bastard 4678 Posted July 28, 2025 Posted July 28, 2025 I'd love to see Alan Sealls as a part of this covering South Alabama, but he could probably start one on his own. It would be a great tool for the University of South Alabama to educate and train future meteorologists through their meteorology program which he is a part of. 4
Megatron81 343 Posted July 28, 2025 Posted July 28, 2025 I'm surprised that Bill Steffen didn't want to start Michigan Weather Network since he is a legend after all he now has his own website kinda wish he would still do text and not all video from YouTube or have a mix of both in my opinion. Kinda surprised that Wood TV still has his blog up from 7 months ago I thought they would get rid of it. 1
tyrannical bastard 4678 Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 (edited) Today is launch day! Both the iOS and Android apps are active, and the TV apps were supposed to launch at 11:00 a.m. but the Roku version is still unavailable as of this time. AWN goes live at Noon CT. EVVTV12 204 Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 Many of their SkyCams will be located on the Alabama Public Television (APT PBS) towers. Does make one think if the network will do weather updates on APT in the future. 1

They are accepting advertising opportunities so it's likely a commercial venture. https://alabamaweathernetwork.com/advertise-with-us/ Edited August 11, 2025 by tyrannical bastard 1

TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 It was cool to see how the network looks, and it won't be a success... it'll be a massive success. Also, I'm seeing via FB posts that 1° Outside, the New England-based weather service created and run by the husband and wife meteorology duo of Matt and Danielle Noyes (loved them for years), has launched their own 24/7 streaming network of their own but its hidden for Patreon folks for now. It's a sign of the times, and I know that more networks like these are coming... 4

TheRolyPoly 3510 Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Sorry for bringing this back up, but there's another one coming... Former KATV meteorologist James Bryant is joining a new 24/7 statewide weather streaming network, the Arkansas Weather Network, which launches December 13th. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid02e5awC9CwYT5kykMFfz9WxCwXSu7tfnkkcyHkiPNZcZiky4FxoMdfp2KWCUMfAfEXl&id=61581144627683

He registered the Arkansas Weather Network name to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on July 15. The two other on-camera meteorologists on AWN’s staff come from KNWA/KFTA, storm chaser Zachary Hall (who freelanced for them as a storm spotter) and Blaze Thomas (who had joined the duopoly in May as a digital forecaster and is a recent Mississippi State meteorology graduate).
