Encore 323 88 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) The purpose of this thread is to have a place to discuss anything relating to all of the 8 Disney/ABC owned and operated stations because even though things may seem quiet across the group, things are still happening beyond what is discussed in the individual WABC, KABC, WLS, and WPVI threads that are in the NY, LA, Chicago, and Philly threads respectively. ——————————————————— As you probably know by now, the licenses of the ABC O&Os are being threatened by the FCC and the deadline is July 29th, so the stations have been rolling out call to action promos, so that viewers can advocate for each station on the station’s behalf. Here are promos from WABC, KABC & WLS. WABC: https://youtube.com/watch?v=ePkAFvaEiAg KABC: https://youtube.com/watch?v=R0wEyMOfNwM WLS: Edited 15 hours ago by Encore 323
24994J 5904 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago General threads are not permitted, anymore, HOWEVER, the FCC stuff is enough to probably warrant its own thread. 1

If this madness was not going on, this thread would definitely not be here but regardless of what has happened, I feel that enough happens at the ABC O&Os nowadays for this thread to logically be here, so I am thinking about the present and the future here as you clearly see. tyrannical bastard 4683 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago It's sad that we've come to this where the ABC O&Os have been vilified by our current FCC. Maybe in a saner time, the same should happen to Sinclair and Nexstar, who have done far more egregious things in front of our eyes, often on a daily basis.
StudioTech 15 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) I'm still amazed that given the relaxation of ownership rules that there are still only 8 stations in the group. It's like a throwback to earlier times when the 7-7-7 rules existed (AM/FM/TV). Edited 13 hours ago by StudioTech
Vlad 414 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Im probably going to get some fallout from this post, but im going to go ahead anyway.. According to what I've read, there is basically a zero chance that these stations are going to be off the air if nothing is done. These stations collectively, are the most watched in the nation and highest rated stations in arguably this part of the world. They've set the standard and culturally defined how we watched local news today. So I respectfully do not understand their unnecessary inflammatory drama to confuse the public. Honestly this is the issue, all of this public alarmist method of communication these days is what is strengthening the division and clash. Respectfully, they are entitled to voice their concerns for sure, but is it really that serious enough? Can someone help me understand what their intent is behind all of this? GraphicsMan 349 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I’m gonna tell the fcc to knock it off I’m doing it on behalf of WTVD. This is very serious no tv license has been cancelled before it rarely happens.

This feels like it's more targeted towards a normal viewer that just cares about regular shows like General Hospital, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, High Potential, 9-1-1 or sports and their local news, which is exactly who you want to advocate for you in bulk because they lose their shows, the FCC chair will get that anger for sure. It's a perfect line that doesn't feel angry in the ad, just saying 'we're just as perplexed about this as you are and you should write in and speak your mind about this'. There is an entire audience that just watches the local news summarize the events and never gets into ABC's national news or The View.
