NYNW 0 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Anyone notice the new graphics for News on The Hour?
Geoffrey 873 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Here are some snapshots. I like the look... very bright. And it sounds like Bill Ratner is their announcer (I know they've been using him for at least a few days or weeks). Also, I caught the noon "News on the Hour" and they were definitely still using the old look so I was surprised when NYNW posted about the new graphics at 1:00.
Jess 1116 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 ....whoa. Leave it to WNBC to ONCE AGAIN upstage the rest of the O&Os. This look is NICE.
TSSZNews 1052 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I'll pass final judgment when I see an animation of some sort... But right now...I dunno. -T
WCAUTVNBC10 413 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I'll pass final judgment when I see an animation of some sort... But right now...I dunno. -T Same here. I don't like the 3D treatments given to the logo in the open. Looks amateurish at best. Other than that though, it looks like it has potential to be good or to totally suck.
Geoffrey 873 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 So it's true that I have no life and have been looking at these graphics closely already... the one thing that bothers me is that they picked only ten counties to list on the left side of the screen, missing many of the ones in the DMA (including three inside the city).
Geoffrey 873 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Looks like they're using the new location in the newsroom...
Jess 1116 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Yeah, I did notice the list of counties, and that does kind of bother me. But I do wonder if it is an intentional nod to this: Also... theme music! Any indication on if they're keeping the old stuff?
Dave Lampstein 124 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Thanks for the caps, Geoffrey. I'm sure they'll show up on NewscastStudio soon...
Ntropolis 598 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I like 'em. Much better than the other O&O look. Can't wait to see more!
Tyler 151 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Wow, I really like those! But, as others have said, I hope the animation doesn't ruin them.
Vlad 332 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 So far I'm really digging the new look! It is a bit amateurish, but overall the look is clean, simple, and neat. The lower third is not too bad neither. Graphics really do not have to be flashy and sophisticated all the time.. So I'm glad they decided to keep it simple with this package. But again we have a lot more to see on News 4 New York at 5.
NewsJunkie247 1 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I think the new look is pretty nice! I really like them! I can't wait to see caps (and perhaps video) from the newscasts. Because of the terrible new website, I won't be able to get any video from the newscasts, so that is a bummer.
Bucc 4 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Yea the new website does suck... very difficult to find stuff, but the caps look very nice!
DMA 135 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 They dropped the WNBC 2003 package, oh well. The set is interesting, and the graphics are nice and simple:
Amra 171 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I will miss their old gfx but it's a nice change. Not happy about the set tho. I hope they didn't ditch the 6/11 set. They dumped WNBC News.
Vlad 332 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Yeah, I did notice the list of counties, and that does kind of bother me. But I do wonder if it is an intentional nod to this: Also... theme music! Any indication on if they're keeping the old stuff? I'm watching it right now and the music is changed for good, personally I don't like it as much as what they had before, would've been nice if they kept their previous music, but its something that can get used to.. The music is very fast paced. Not sure what package that is though...
Amra 171 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Is the music NBC News NG from Gari? Also they ran a TINY tease with the WNBC 2003 theme.
NYNW 0 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Moments when it's terrific and there are moments when it's horrible.
PunditWannabe 0 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Watching the 5pm with Sue and David on the new set....I hate it! It's so distracting to see the poorly dressed staff walking around, getting a cup of coffee. Not an improvement, IMO....
sg9018 10 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I just came home and tune in. Did WNBC get the new NBC O&O graphics? IT looks like it did. The new set is nice and colorful. I will miss the old set. It was bigger and better. Though this new set makes the newspeople look better IMO. I always thought the old set was a little dark. I think I will like a new more colorful four. I guess this is part of the new newschannel.
Dave Lampstein 124 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 The graphics and the new set are very nice - but it's not really New York style... looks something more suited for a smaller market. Again - not that it isn't good, it's all well done... but it's a step down from what they had.
