qunewsguy 380 Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 Was it on Newspath? Nope, it came down in an e-mail from Affiliate Relations. And, at least from the sample, the music's staying the same, as is Cronkite's voiceover. I think the problem is they're trying to do everything completely within VizRT now. While it works for some networks (CNN), unless you know what you're doing it can come across as VERY cheesy.
susquvalleywgal 524 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 And by the looks of this article ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/05/13/national/main5011403.shtml?tag=main_home_webExclusive A new website too. Not too bad. I always like classic and retro, so I think this will be pretty cool. If only WHP-TV can have full power digital strength so I can get their HD signal ... -- Matt
DMA 136 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Not a fan....they could have at least brought back the old music. I honestly think the current music is great...the previous package sounded pretty wimpy.
alaskanews 123 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 And by the looks of this article ... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/05/13/national/main5011403.shtml?tag=main_home_webExclusive A new website too. Looks an awful lot like ABC News' website after their redesign
Bucc 4 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Looks an awful lot like ABC News' website after their redesign That's exactly what I thought, glad I wansn't the only one. lol
Jess 1115 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Wow. I never thought they'd be able to produce an open that was WORSE than the 2006 Early Show open... and yet they just did. This looks like Baby's First Invigorator Project. The countries on the three globes look friggin' low-resolution blocky. This look would look amateurish on a local station in market 140.
NewsJunkie247 1 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I'm not too crazy about the open, but the graphics don't look bad. I think they look pretty good.
TennTV1983 811 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Bleh. The only thing I found interesting about the new look were the lower 3rds and the animated CBS "globe" logo.
swillh2k2 206 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Not impressed either. Open looks somewhat better in HD but still looks bad. L3's are OK but are too big.
newsguy22 59 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I rather like it. Only problem for me is many of the graphics are not in 4x3 safe title range.
TennTV1983 811 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I rather like it. Only problem for me is many of the graphics are not in 4x3 safe title range. I noticed that too.
seriouslythough 0 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Quick notice at the kerning between the V and E edit: and a bunch more letters in "evening" between the closing shot and the promo: you spot the inconsistency.
who?cares 256 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 The graphics don't look bad, but get rid of 2 of the globes.
first on fox 18 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6pVQhMZhDE
cbs2worksforyou 44 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 After watching it tonight the graphics look decent...but I still think they should have picked different fonts...Times New Roman and Century Gothic are so blah!!!
Weeters 1981 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 It looks like both a cheap WGBA knockoff and something WDJT would make.
Geoffrey 876 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I'm really not a fan of the new look... I particularly don't like the OTS graphics. The zooming and panning still images that go in there move way too quickly and I guess they've given up on designing anything for each story now.
alaskanews 123 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 The open looks much better in HD, it's not perfect but it definitely looks like the election open. I'm indifferent on most of it but the L3's are pretty shitty.
Que 73 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I think what CBS had during the election worked really well for them, in the short term. But looking in the long term, this type of look just doesn't cut it for me. These, I'm sure, will get very old quick. I would prefer much brighter colors, such as what ABC has in both studio and on air.
thafernykid 2 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 In HD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E55aPX2W9gU&fmt=22 They look very nice in HD. Could've used a different color scheme though... I think I see a bit of Zaxwerks Invigorator in this...
mediadorkx07 0 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 In SD, these graphics look like crap. In HD, they're stunning.
A3N 1002 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Graphics are not that bad, but they could use some work. The only thing that I really like about that open is Walter Cronkite's Voice Over. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
