24994J 5577
New York, Boston, Philly and the rest of New England has had more than their fair share of snowstorms this season...and Chicago will be getting in on the fun over the next 36 hours! Up to 2 feet of snow is expected at O'Hare, Midway, the Lakefront, and other points south. This could top '99, '79 and possibly even '67. This is your place to post your information, comments, and opinions about the media coverage here in the Windy City. I know many stations in NYC were on the air nearly the entire time during some of their "big ones"; will Chicago do the same, or will we be left out in the cold? So far, CBS 2, NBC Chicago, ABC 7 and WGN seem to be on top of things when it comes to closing notification. These four all had their crawlers going during the late broadcasts last night. Fox Chicago, on the other hand...well, what do you expect? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7087-blizzard-2011-coverage/ Share on other sites
swillh2k2 203
Think you mean WPIX, not Fox... BTW, isn't this a coverage thread? :puke: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7087-blizzard-2011-coverage/#findComment-64352 Share on other sites
24994J 5577
My mistake, I wasn't totally sure if I was posting this in the right spot. By the way, I mean Fox (WFLD); this is about Chicago, not New York Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7087-blizzard-2011-coverage/#findComment-64353 Share on other sites

15connects 4
ABC 7 is following in WABC's footsteps, they have Ben Bradley out on the road reporting at 5pm, I don't think they have a name for it though Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7087-blizzard-2011-coverage/#findComment-64366 Share on other sites

24994J 5577
All of ABC 7's newscasts are being broadcast live online until further notice. 24994J 5577
NBC Chicago loses the 10pm battle. While both 2 and 7 have extensive coverage and more than one meteorologist in-studio for their 1-hour broadcasts, ole Channel 5 already ditched coverage and has moved on to Leno. Maybe while all the other O&O's switch to the Nonstop look, WMAQ will finally switch to Look C! Jase 1047
Off topic, but interesting that WMAQ hasn't gotten the new truck wraps. Maybe while all the other O&O's switch to the Nonstop look, WMAQ will finally switch to Look C! I'm guessing that since they share trucks with Telemundo Chicago (T44) that they either will get a special one that includes T44 in it or a simple piece(s) that would cover-up the current NBC5 part only. It would be cool if they did get a new full truck wrap (like KNSD). 24994J 5577
Also off-topic, but ABC7 is showing a "Continuing Coverage" promo with video and sound bites of the last 24 hours. What's interesting is that it uses what sounds like a mix of the EWN New Generation in use by most ABC O&O and NS2000+ that WLS has used since '92. I know that there is a thread on this site from about 4 years ago that looks at a possible update to NS2000+. I was wondering if anyone knows or has heard anything? Jase 1047
Posted yesterday from the Sun-Times.... Storm draws viewers to TV news "Late news overnight ratings were unusually high for all late local newscasts Monday night, with the notable exception of Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32. Top-rated ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7 still bested all other stations with a whopping 11.2 rating (392,000 households), about two rating points higher than usual. But Tribune Co.-owned WGN-Channel 9’s hour-long 9 p.m. newscast, which features popular meteorologist Tom Skilling in its weather reporting arsenal, was a close second with a 10.2 rating (357,000), nearly double what the station’s average late news rating has been in recent weeks. Both NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5 and CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 also had considerably better-than-usual ratings success Monday, scoring 8.7 (304,500) and 8.0 (280,000) ratings respectively for their late newscasts. Only WFLD was unable to pull in any new viewers with the blizzard on the way. The station’s 9 p.m. news could only manage a 2.5 rating (87,500) for the night, about what it has been drawing in recent months." -- Lewis Lazare Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/7087-blizzard-2011-coverage/#findComment-64401 Share on other sites
