From Crommy5's channel; here's a brief 1985 WCBS tease with current NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt

Until running across this, I was unaware Lester had worked there before jumping to WBBM.

He also did time at KNXT (KCBS) for a little while in the 80's, too.

From Christmas Day 1976, the 11 PM report of WTAJ's TV10 Action News, featuring a looong (4 minutes!) special close.

The channel also has other bits and pieces from WTAJ in the late 70's and early 80's.

Two short excerpts:

KPNX in 1997. I have never seen these L3s before:

And here's 30 seconds or so of KNXV from the period:

Even more WTAJ...

It turns out they kept using the original Action News Theme alongside the custom orchestral version. From November 4, 1990, the open to the Action News Nightbeat:

What I can only assume is just a snippet of a KNBC promo for NewsCenter 4, 1978:

Oddly enough it turned up on a PAL tape, along with 2+ minutes of other KNBC bits. Features the WOC 1980 theme, which I begin to suspect might be production music of some sort.

(In case the timed embed didn't work for you, the promo is at 2:16 in the video.)

Transdiffusion has very good archive material. Please check them out. Lots of ITV closedowns and BBC material on there. Highly recommended.

It definitely appears to have some connection to NBC. I have a DVD compilation of various classic TV promos and other stuff from 16mm, that I got off eBay long ago; it has a 1977 fall season promo for NBC that uses the same music (or at least a different cut of the same music package).

Also, one of the NewsActive3 compilations has a late-70s WJAR promo "New England Turns Us On" which is based on the same music theme. And of course, both WJAR and WOC were/are affiliated with NBC...

Not in 4:3, natch, but WPVI promos from the 80s...on WPVI's own YT channel!

Here's the Australian version of this promo:

That's why I chose it. There was also a Brisbane version done and I think Melbourne and Adelaide as well.

I prefer this version (which has a better 'end', among other things, and which is the same as my clip, which has been uploaded to YouTube by a friend of mine):

I've added a few more observations on some of my YouTube blurbs - for anyone interested.:

Carol Barnes presents from London, with Michael Nicholson in Washington and James Mates in Tokyo. The 'Daily' was a bit of a gift for news fans - with its classy graphics, newsy feel and wonderfully business-like and utilitarian set. Incidentally, it was also basically unheard of at the time for news opens to feature 'anchor talent' shots in Britain.

----

ITN contributed World News on the half-hour on Channel 4's intelligent morning programme 'The Channel 4 Daily' in 1989. The bulletins featured Carol Barnes in London, Michael Nicholson in Washington and James Mates in Tokyo.

Carol Barnes presents Channel 4's morning programme from ITN London. The 'Daily' was a very newsy sort of breakfast show - and with all the different themes, segments and stylish graphics, it was a bit of a gift for news junkies. The set was also wonderfully austere and business-like.

Another 'important' discussion to fill the local news block. With Ann Curry, Al Roker and co. Note: The legendary co-op segment - where they talked (..and talked) about anything and everything, and which became easy fodder for lampooning by the talented impersonators of 'Fast Forward' - used to air in Australia through the '90s as part of Seven's re-broadcast of 'Today' in the overnight hours. Source: Channel 7 Sydney, Australia

ITV's "Just the Way You Are" promo, celebrating the many channels across Britain making up the ITV network. This leads into ITN's 'News at Ten' with Alastair Burnet and Alastair Stewart. Incidentally, it was extremely rare (or almost unheard of) back then for British TV networks to present themselves in this kind of "big song and dance" way, common to US broadcasters at the time - and I believe this promo was more a statement by ITV to draw attention to its positives ahead of proposed changes in broadcasting legislation.

Extraordinary "Year in Review" closing package compiled by videotape editor James Hamilton using early 90's manual videotape technology. Sandra Sully and Ron Wilson close the year highlighting the best television news pictures for "the year that we had to have" - 1991. Major international news events included the War in the Gulf, Dissolution of the Soviet Union, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, Crisis in East Timor and the Strathfield Massacre.

Note: Includes a portion of National Nine News with Ian Ross.

We take you back to the mid 1980s when WLKY in Louisville was affiliated with ABC. The clip you're about to see comes from a report that WLKY aired about Steve Burgin's induction into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Go to around 1:05 to see WLKY's news open from this era.
