Classic Video Thread (pre-2008)

Oh, this is totally worth a watch. So many good stories:

This may be a parody newscast, but with footage so rare, even seeing an open is a treat...

If you want real news, though, get a load of KTVN's very red set.

The end of ASU's 1987 football tilt with the University of the Pacific (yes, they were once D-1) and a tease for KTVK NewsChannel 3.

A couple pieces of KTSP weekend newscasts from 1987 with Ron Hoon and Diane Ryan:

The closing minutes of WTBS' CNN-produced newscast, the TBS Evening News from December 7, 1982. At the end is a plug telling viewers how don't have CNN but enjoyed the newscast to call and ask their cable company for it (remember those commercials?)

It bugs me how the rotating "ARIZONA" in the open isn't centered to the circle of the logo.

Little did they know what would be shaking them up...

In terms of TV news, at 16:53 is a story about a WTSP news helicopter crash.

Also good to see more examples of Fresh News and the graphics package they had. It's a good one that understandably had to be killed off. Also interesting to see how the logo had varying colors...Application was inconsistent of this logo after the February 1994 reboot.

"Nobody gives you more local news than we do!" It's KNDO News 23 from November 1993.

A chunk of NewsCenter 10 from November 1986 — with the Best Endeavours era towards its very end.

A pair of KOB promos from 1992:

WAVY in 1988:

And a full look at KOBR from that year. Watch a station operator run an EBS test, gander at station equipment and more!

Here comes more Peoria!

In addition to their NewsChannel 43, WBLN also carried CNN Headline News at noon:

The ending of 19 Eyewitness News from WRAU in December of 1984, they would become WHOI 4 months later.

An update from WMBD in 1991/92, note the NewsCenter 31 logo even though they annouce it as News 31:

A WEEK 24 hour update from the early 90's, they must cancelled their 5pm newscast back then (which back then used WNBC's 80s theme, while the other newscasts used Hello):

And from Keith Richardson, another news promo from KPIX in 1991, this look reminds me of European TV, specifically France:

Some WTEN news clips from 2006 - not sure if this was after they ditched Chris Clausen and Primetime News as the open is clipped - I do notice the L3’s are from the “Momentum News” era though...

Also this was taken about a month before Terry McSweeney left the station to go back out west.

If KTSP's part-newsroom set premiered when the NewsChannel 10 branding launched (as per Raymie's earlier post), the following 1982 clip, with what appears to be a temporary set, could very well be from the TV10 News era, right?

Good point!

The The Who clip is from 11/82. The KOOL News 10 set is still standing at that point, with the italic 10 removed. So that theory is out. However, it is from the TV10 News era and perhaps this was a secondary set for a weekend? newscast.

The listed date of October of that clip makes it definitely from that period (newspaper articles suggest it signed on October 18, 1982). The Sunset 10 is on the lower third graphic — it was introduced immediately at the callsign change.

Is that a virtual set for KDNL?

Also, that KDNL graphics package gives me a Vance-y feel...

It certainly is an EQ Vance package. The fonts and dotted background in the talent intro confirms it. BTW, does anyone ever get TVbD and EQ Vance's mid-late 90's work confused for their similarity?
