You know the name, you know the music, and you know the opening graphics -- but this 1992 clip of Nightline is from TV3 in New Zealand:

Meanwhile, the Australian version of Nightline used an interesting hybrid theme that combined a part of Cool Hand Luke with Score's ABC News signature:

And from the late 1990s, here are two opens to the New Zealand version of 20/20:

TVN's opener of its evening newscast from March 22, 1995 (begins at 0:29)

I'm posting this because the theme used in the open (a very good one) is slightly different than the traditional one, introduced in 1996, seen in the video below beginning at 3:39.

Two More from 1991 Los Angeles:

KNBC (Los Angeles) July 9, 1991 6:00pm

There were (at least) 2 different versions of the open: one starting with Keith Morrison followed by Kelly Lange, and one starting with Kelly Lange, followed by Keith Morrison...

KCAL (Norwalk/Los Angeles) July 9, 1991 8:00pm

That 7/4/86 KSDK update is interesting. When did the next theme debut? In the fall? I would assume that they would have rolled out the new graphics and music at the same time as the new NBC logo, but I don't actually know, because KSDK footage from that period is so scarce (despite someone out there having more video we haven't seen from the 80s, but they only ever post photos snapped off of a TV/monitor). The fact that NMSA still misdates this theme as 1981 when it most likely debuted some time in 1985 is a testament to how much of a black hole this period is.

Here's something that's unlisted from KPLR 1991.

Well, if you had the equivalent of NBC or CBS running the station as an O&O with standard graphics across all of the stations, it can be done... And in typical fashion, news has been cut from 30 minutes to 15 minutes - granted, SP&M have access to more of the

RFO is run by France Télévisions (France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, France Ô) - they're (IMHO) the 800-lb. Gorilla in French TV...
