  3. Either that or they just figured that while they had their news set in the smaller studio, it wasn't worth it to try to move to the bigger one. Or, I don't know if KGO operated this way, but perhaps they rented out the larger studio to other outside productions. KTVU did that – KTVU rented out their much larger Studio A to other productions (including the filming of Mrs. Doubtfire) before they finally moved their main news set into there in 2012.
  4. I couldn’t agree more. KGO should’ve kept the larger studio and gave KRON the smaller studio. But they must’ve wanted to lease out the bigger studio to KRON to cash in the rent. https://bowmanrodgersdesign.com/portfolio/kgo-tv-7-live/ so nice to see the old nostalgia of 7Live Studio before it was dismantled to make room for KRON.
  5. KETV NewsWatch 7 at 10:00 (January 19, 1987)
  6. Sounds like WCPM to me. I recognize their instrumentation and the overlay of the EWN sig is peak laziness indicating WCPM.
  7. I think KGO's set is really underrated. It has almost everything you'd ever need in a set: a nice home base, a distinct weather area, a unique interview/demo area, and a few different reporter standup positions. The topical graphics that they put in the monitors also always look really sharp. Even though it's pushing eight years old, it has held up very well. If that set debuted today, I think we'd all compliment it. The only thing that's a shame is that they didn't install a larger version of it in the studio that they gave away to KRON instead.
  8. Shannan Ferry, who recently co-anchored Weekends on 1 has been named the host of News All Day. https://www.adweek.com/tvspy/ny1-names-shannan-ferry-news-all-day-anchor/
  9. Yesterday
  10. I think so as well. It sounds like WarnerBros Discovery CEO is ok with losing the NBA rights on TNT. I told someone that TNT version is way better than ESPN doing NBA basketball.
  11. My new book "Here Now the News" is now available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I interviewed dozens of people who shared many memories and ancedotes about the legendary New York City newscasters.
  12. I think he won't retire. There's so much $ & other potential offers that might be too much to turn down. I know he mentioned that he has his own studio. With a major investments from other major studios or just partnering with them to produce content will be tempting.
  13. A March Madness without Charles Barkley is unthinkable for CBS Sports and David Berson
  14. NBC's logo should always be on the screen somewhere as that is what other networks do, but sometimes i noticed that it's not always the case. Wondering why that is? I would like to see that they are able to NBA games on not only NBC, but on USA & Peacock. USA does have a history of showing NBA & other professional sports in the past. I heard NBA was close to deal for Big East Basketball, but it will only be on NBC & peacock. They should put some games on USA, so that it would be more beneficial for the cable network. NBC should use USA as the destination for all of their cable sports programming, with cnbc being the alternative, while also continuing to invest in peacock. It doesn't make sense to air figure skating events on E entertainment channel as they have done in the past.
  15. Is it possible that TNT could just air some games nationally during the regular season, without the playoffs at a reduce amount of $ so that they can remain in business with the NBA instead of just being on the production side of things running NBATV for the NBA?
  16. It's not the first time that he says he's retiring, so I'll belive it when he actually does it.
  17. A side effect of Golf Channel's changes is that their bug is now in the lower-left for both Golf Channel and NBC golf coverage. Which now gives you an awkward gap below the leaderboard graphic because it was positioned with the assumption of the bug being there. Meanwhile if the US Olympic Trials coverage are any indication, some form of the college football graphics are now NBC's default
  18. Not much of a Brad fan, he seemed like he enjoyed the sound of his own voice
  19. Last week
  20. This tells me that he already has inside info that TNT won't be retaining any sort of NBA contact. I'm sure that will be revealed shortly after the NBA Finals end, and then TNT will gear up for its farewell season.
  21. If we’re going to complain about stations wasting money on sets, I don’t think this is the example. This is replacing a set that was more than 10 years old and had very few modifications to it. (Looks like in those pictures too that they are even saving the updated video wall from the outgoing set for something else.) At a certain point, things get old and outdated and need to be replaced. What KCNC just put in there is nice, modern, and not particularly excessive or opulent. Plus, as others pointed out, they probably saved some money on design by reusing the KCAL designs. I don’t think replacing a 10-year-old set with something functional, modern, and not over-the-top like what KCNC did here is a bad decision at all. If we’re going to talk about irresponsible excess, look no further than KDVR. They replaced a set that was what, barely three years old with something that has so many monitors that it probably cost a lot more than it looks. And the end product has terrible lighting and looks worse than what it replaced.
  22. Then even more! Pay your journalists more than minimum wage.
  23. I don't know if it's the Eyewitness News package or Warner Chapell have you confirmed that? WTVD is nice, that update putting that seamless monitor wall in 2023 make it look well. They are in WLS situation street level studio small space thry can't do everything and tight camera shots.
  24. A long time ago like the 90s and 80s it would be around 100k-300k but that was a long time ago.
  25. Believe it or not it has almost been a year since Elise's sudden passing. With that in mind, it does seem like John is permanent on weekday mornings (with Tony) since there are promos with them; and just within the last week, Craig Allen was officially added as a bio on the website so I would say he is a permanent member of the weather team. His bio hasn't been officially added but there is a placeholder for him: https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/cbs2/ There's still no bio for Elaine Quijano and Andrea Grymes is still listed, although she hasn't been seen on-air since her demotion in February.
  26. Employees at WROC (CBS 8 Rochester, NY) are picketing over Nexstar's refusal to recognize their union. From my experience, you need about 75% of Staff support for the union to be recognized. According to the article, Nexstar tried to claim that producers are ineligible for unions because they serve in a management capacity. The National Labor Relations Board however ruled producers were union elligable. Do you all think the unionization attempts will be successful? https://rbj.net/2024/06/10/wroc-union-plans-picket-over-stalled-contract-talks/
  27. Good Morning America has been this way since the early 2010s, even worse after Sam Champion and Josh Elliott left in 2013/2014. It's become a mix of Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight. GMA's hosts are not the problem, it's the story choise, tabloid sensationalized tone, and ADHD pacing. Watching a GMA broadcast from 1984 or 2004 vs 2024 feels significantly dumbed down. Today has sucked since Meredith & Ann left but its news element tops GMA. CBS Mornings has its flaws but it's the most mature and news oriented show among the three.
