  1. Past hour
  2. Frank and Jessica obviously outlasted the others who anchored the morning news before them and heck they are the most tenured anchors at the station as a whole right now. We also can't forget the early morning news people from past to present because they are part of the story too. Sharon Tay, Emmett Miller, Cher Calvin, Lu Parker, Asha Blake, and presently Megan Henderson and Chris Schauble.
  3. Just a little update, but as of mid-last week, NBC News Daily has now also moved into 3A. Looks like they might be using a former MSNBC desk, though I’m not sure. The overall graphic motif is similar to what they had in 3C (or whatever that studio was renamed.) I wonder what NBC might do with that space now that it’s totally vacant.
  4. Today
  5. They were part of the story, and perhaps they (PIX, NN, and Nexstar as a whole) were rolling the dice on the building actually collapsing and being the station who already had everything in place to capture and cover it (dark, but a possibility). Other people noting that court shows would have normally been on during some of this coverage- be honest- Live coverage of the building yesterday beats a court show rerun hands down.
  6. More BS kool-aid from Nexstar. Sure, they can expand newscasts until they're blue in the face. But when the content pool diminishes from reporter layoffs, cutting news feeds, and reliance on "old" news to fill the time. I've noticed a marked increase in "regional" news on Nexstar stations (and others like Gray that have taken over large swaths of the country). Basically, the stations are feeding each other and less and less is devoted to covering the actual news in their area. The result is a watered-down product that everyone loses from because it's the same thing across a large swath of stations, making the very concept of "local news" a farce. It's very well possible that a local station could not have a single LOCAL story on a very slow news day.
  7. It could be Nexstar Corporate Office on 6th Ave near the Central Park, you can tell by large outdoor green space opening.
  8. Cheers to 35 years! LA's iconic KTLA Morning News went on the air 35yrs ago today! RIP to Sam Rubin. Up until earlier this year the 7am-11am portion of the program only had one weatherman the entire time....the great Mark Kriski. Sadly, he was let go earlier in the year due to Nexstar layoffs. The KTLA team still supports him as you can see by his recent IG posts. Morning reporter/fill in anchor Eric Spillman is the only original member of the program left at the station today. Each of the anchor parings across the years....Carlos/Barbara, Carlos/Giselle Fernandez, Carlos/Michaela Pereira, Frank Buckley/Michaela and now Frank/Jessica Holmes carry on the great tradition of ensuring the show exudes "LA's Very Own."
  9. Chris Cimino?
  10. Also their renewed NHL contract takes effect this fall and it's around double the value of the previous one.
  11. Spain (The Running of the Bulls is taking place this week as we speak) The country is getting a seventh national channel. We already have La 1 and La 2 from RTVE, Antena 3 and La Sexta from Atresmedia, and Telecinco and Cuatro from Mediaset España. Now, we have a new company, Siete (Servicios Integrados de Entretenimiento Televisivo) that will give us... La Septima. Launch date is November 5th, 2026. https://elpais.com/economia/2026-07-07/la-septima-iniciara-emisiones-el-5-de-noviembre-con-una-inversion-de-25-millones.html
  12. I just found this website... created by Nexstar themselves. https://www.nexstar-tegna.com/
  13. And this comes a day after Rogers took full control of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
  14. It's getting that way. Technically, "NBC 15" is now WEAR 3.2, since Sinclair played the shell game last year, moving ROAR to WPMI 15.1. Believe it or not, they've actually hired a replacement anchor for Darwin Singleton, Asha Staples, who was a reporter for WALA several years back. And they recently hired a replacement for Kelly Foster as well. Still, it's very light on Mobile-centric content and is largely padded with stories from WEAR in Pensacola and the usual Sinclair garbage.... The weekends have been done by WEAR since the massive layoffs 3 years ago. And even if NBC 15 is short-staffed or having technical issues? WEAR to the rescue!
  15. The 10 o’clock broadcast has Shirley still anchoring from outside on Second Avenue, while Chris Camino is doing weather with limited graphics from “a studio across town” (his words -any idea where he is? He has windows behind him that look like he’s about 10 stories up) and Duarte G anchoring for other non-building stories from a studio somewhere that has no identifiable markings.
  16. WABC, WCBS and WNBC went wall to wall for stunt devils climbing the Empire State Building. They only broke away when it was clear the press wasn’t getting a perp walk. A potential building collapse of the former Pfizer building in Midtown East during the middle of the workday is worthy of extensive coverage.
  17. PIX used their unique positioning (and the fact that they were part of the story) to their advantage. I think it was a good decision, albeit yes maybe the coverage was a bit too long. If you want other news and regular programming, turn to other channels. If you want in-depth coverage of this, keep it there. Many folks they interviewed complimented their extensive coverage and commitment, so I think this was (much needed) good press for WPIX after the mass layoffs.
  18. I agree wholeheartedly that the "immersive studio" is overrated, or at least the way they're using it is. It makes me miss the simple green screen, where I'd argue it is easier to see/understand the weather.
  19. A partial WFLA newscast from May 1994, with a mention of rival WTVT dumping CBS for Fox:
  20. In reality, for breaking news how many put PIX11 as their primary source? The other O&O flagships did thorough jobs without wall to wall.
  21. Yesterday
  22. Summer vacation might make sense except for the fact that Guy Staniar, the guy who has been doing traffic for years, was doing his thing on the streaming/WLNY show at 7:00 both days this week so far. I've always found it strange for a major New York TV station to have a faceless voice do traffic. That, plus having the weather done from a different studio kind of kills that traditional "morning family" vibe. I wish they'd scale back the use of the virtual studio for weather (maybe once a half hour in the morning?), especially since they rarely do anything cool with it anymore. Most of the time, it's just the one "screen," other times they just walk back and forth between a few screens, all while ensuring the weather maps appear smaller on viewers' TVs at home. Get the team back together in the same studio so they can interact more naturally. Sorry for the rant.
  23. Saw this on Reddit, why don’t she ask the questions herself?
  24. Just to add some details... Dan Mannarino told viewers they had to evacuate, which he had been expecting, and they stopped talking at 11:18 (they would normally have been airing a court show repeat at that hour). They showed a skycam shot of the building with no audio until 11:21, when they took News Nation, which was in a commercial break. News Nation covered the story extensively until just before noon, when they ended up covering other stories. PIX 11 came back locally at 12:16 with Mannarino anchoring on the street. Definitely a story, but I wonder if PIX went a bit overboard as it is so close to them, because I don't think the other stations covered it as extensively. Then again, why should every station do the same thing? I guess it's a way to differentiate themselves from the crowd.
  25. Devan Kaney is joining WFLD from WTXF, primarily covering the Bears.
  26. There really isn’t much new information coming out now. I get it’s right next to them but I think they can let Dan go home. Maybe if they didn’t let all of their anchors go they would have people to cover
  27. It's nice they aren't leaving Shirley to cover the 3 hour (or longer) block alone, although of all their evening anchors before (Kori, Kendis, Arrianee), I always found her the strongest. It definitely would be practical if they added an extra anchor to their evenings for situations like this so they don't have their morning anchor work such long hours.
  28. I guess by remote accessing to Ross Overdrive?
