Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
TheRolyPoly replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
They're launching 3:00pm news in the process, starting in September. But this brings an end to an amazing 35-year run of Saturday morning news on WKRC-TV and 12 years on Sunday mornings. -
Isn't PIX11 still understaffed on weather?
- Today
-
I wonder where. Maybe Fox Weather? But that would probably have been more of a seamless move. Which local station has an opening for a new meteorologist?
-
Rumor is that Brian Shlonsky, now former main anchor at Louisville station WAVE TV, is coming to WABC. Could he be Joe’s successor on weekend evenings if Joe gets moved to weekdays at Noon? Also saw that Liv Johnson is leaving WNYW, but staying in New York. Could we see her on weekend evenings at WABC, with Jeff Smith being bumped up to 12 noon weekdays (and possibly either 4pm or 5pm) as well?

If Sinclair is cutting at one of its most successful stations, that’s not a good sign of things to come for all the 3rd- and 4th-place stations it runs.

Can I just point out the irony that this image of the WPIX studio is at the bottom of the Nexstar-Tegna.com website? It should not be lost on anyone that Mission is still due to sell PIX 11 because Nexstar is running an out-of-state SSA though Mission Broadcasting and they still owe over $1.8 million to the FCC for de facto violation of the 39% ownership cap. However, that action is conveniently delayed under Brenden Carr. Perry is, at this point, flaunting that he's violating the public trust and the law. I'm forwarding this to my AG. Great litigation evidence, really. https://www.nexstar-tegna.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/local-news-image-2.jpg

United Kingdom BREAKING sad news to report this morning... Longtime ITN and Sky News presenter Dermot Murnaghan has passed away after battling an illness connected to prostate cancer. He was only 68. https://news.sky.com/story/dermot-murnaghan-former-sky-news-and-bbc-presenter-has-died-13481881

The problem is that Mike just turned 76 last week. He does look really good for his age though.

For a company that's so worried about big tech, maybe they shouldn't have hitched their entire future to retransmission consent of pay TV and playing catch up supplying their content to newer platforms. Big tech isn't going to be their demise, they did this to themselves.
-
I spotted it on WAVY's website as well. Man, they are really trying to push this through.

Liv Johnson has left. She says she will be somewhere else on tv in NYC soon: https://www.instagram.com/p/DaoWoPLFsJq/?hl=en&img_index=1

WDAF-TV and KSNW-TV (The Kansas State Network) also has it... Tegna doesn't even own any stations in Kansas City, or even Kansas.
-
The Bucks have a new home....somewhat the same as the old one pre-MSN/FSN/Bally/FanDuel. Every broadcast will be on WVTV's My 24 subchannel (the former WCGV), with a local streaming service TBA, along with a new state network, and the package starts with the team's Summer League action this Sunday. As with the Brewers deal for games on WITI and a state network, Good Karma and WTMJ radio will run affiliate relations and sell advertising during the broadcasts.

The obsession with Big Tech is just insane.

I found this on WOOD's website today. It takes you to the website. I also spotted it on KARK. Not all the Nexstar/Tegna affected stations have it... yet...

After a 16-year run and becoming one of the most recognizable faces of WAFB, Elizabeth Vowell will be leaving the station next month to join LSU full-time as their director of student media. She already works there part-time as one of their adjuct professors at their Manship School of Journalism. My speculative guess is that Tisha Powell will take the main gig. https://www.wafb.com/2026/07/10/elizabeth-vowell-leave-wafb-join-lsu-full-time/?https://www.wafb.com/&fbclid=PAT01DUAS973pleHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA81NjcwNjczNDMzNTI0MjcAAaduMnOdtnAhq22fbMBGEBN-nirjWpU9WuPZ5dc0pXRLwk0wTOy1OaUwFaqPhg_aem_9PjyF-fmJDJrvxW9zf7L2A

Things things are done by research. It’s not just a reaction to the dog of the market doing new weather branding. 7 doesn’t even consider 2/9 as competition. 7’s numbers quadruple 2’s on a bad day. 7’s consultants/research obviously showed the need for this. That’s why it’s been done. Simple.
-
From what I've been told, the best numbers for the streaming channels are just the regular newscasts, and replays of the regular newscasts.

As stated in the Out and About Thread by @TheRolyPoly, The next new newscast for WUPA is CBS News Atlanta at Noon. The half-hour newscast begins on Monday, July 13th. T.J. Anthony and Meteorologist Jonathan Myers will helm the new broadcast. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DalgVU7gdaA/?igsh=aXFtMmpnYTNuOXpz All that’s left is 4:30am, 5am, maybe 9am, 4pm, along with weekend mornings and evenings.

ABC 7 Eyewitness News thread
MeAndTheGraphics replied to bogusabc7breakingnews's topic in Los Angeles News
When I saw that this morning, I thought to myself "wow that's new". I like that they're trying something different (sort of). Then again, it depends on the reason. I know weather can be unpredictable at times and you want to stay on top of it as best as you can, and I feel this helps them and possibly viewers with that. Maybe I'm missing something here, but if that's the case, then kudos to KABC for it. Also, it's kind of left me wondering: do you guys see other stations (other ABC O&Os at least) adopting these "Weather Change Alerts" or just KABC?
