And this comes a day after Rogers took full control of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

It's getting that way. Technically, "NBC 15" is now WEAR 3.2, since Sinclair played the shell game last year, moving ROAR to WPMI 15.1. Believe it or not, they've actually hired a replacement anchor for Darwin Singleton, Asha Staples, who was a reporter for WALA several years back. And they recently hired a replacement for Kelly Foster as well. Still, it's very light on Mobile-centric content and is largely padded with stories from WEAR in Pensacola and the usual Sinclair garbage....

The 10 o’clock broadcast has Shirley still anchoring from outside on Second Avenue, while Chris Camino is doing weather with limited graphics from “a studio across town” (his words -any idea where he is? He has windows behind him that look like he’s about 10 stories up) and Duarte G anchoring for other non-building stories from a studio somewhere that has no identifiable markings.
-
WABC, WCBS and WNBC went wall to wall for stunt devils climbing the Empire State Building. They only broke away when it was clear the press wasn’t getting a perp walk. A potential building collapse of the former Pfizer building in Midtown East during the middle of the workday is worthy of extensive coverage.

PIX used their unique positioning (and the fact that they were part of the story) to their advantage. I think it was a good decision, albeit yes maybe the coverage was a bit too long. If you want other news and regular programming, turn to other channels. If you want in-depth coverage of this, keep it there. Many folks they interviewed complimented their extensive coverage and commitment, so I think this was (much needed) good press for WPIX after the mass layoffs.

I agree wholeheartedly that the "immersive studio" is overrated, or at least the way they're using it is. It makes me miss the simple green screen, where I'd argue it is easier to see/understand the weather.

A partial WFLA newscast from May 1994, with a mention of rival WTVT dumping CBS for Fox:

In reality, for breaking news how many put PIX11 as their primary source? The other O&O flagships did thorough jobs without wall to wall.

Summer vacation might make sense except for the fact that Guy Staniar, the guy who has been doing traffic for years, was doing his thing on the streaming/WLNY show at 7:00 both days this week so far. I've always found it strange for a major New York TV station to have a faceless voice do traffic. That, plus having the weather done from a different studio kind of kills that traditional "morning family" vibe. I wish they'd scale back the use of the virtual studio for weather (maybe once a half hour in the morning?), especially since they rarely do anything cool with it anymore. Most of the time, it's just the one "screen," other times they just walk back and forth between a few screens, all while ensuring the weather maps appear smaller on viewers' TVs at home. Get the team back together in the same studio so they can interact more naturally. Sorry for the rant.

The Fox 29 News/Good Day Philadelphia Thread

Saw this on Reddit, why don’t she ask the questions herself? -
Just to add some details... Dan Mannarino told viewers they had to evacuate, which he had been expecting, and they stopped talking at 11:18 (they would normally have been airing a court show repeat at that hour). They showed a skycam shot of the building with no audio until 11:21, when they took News Nation, which was in a commercial break. News Nation covered the story extensively until just before noon, when they ended up covering other stories. PIX 11 came back locally at 12:16 with Mannarino anchoring on the street. Definitely a story, but I wonder if PIX went a bit overboard as it is so close to them, because I don't think the other stations covered it as extensively. Then again, why should every station do the same thing? I guess it's a way to differentiate themselves from the crowd.

Devan Kaney is joining WFLD from WTXF, primarily covering the Bears.
-
There really isn’t much new information coming out now. I get it’s right next to them but I think they can let Dan go home. Maybe if they didn’t let all of their anchors go they would have people to cover
-
It's nice they aren't leaving Shirley to cover the 3 hour (or longer) block alone, although of all their evening anchors before (Kori, Kendis, Arrianee), I always found her the strongest. It definitely would be practical if they added an extra anchor to their evenings for situations like this so they don't have their morning anchor work such long hours.
-
I guess by remote accessing to Ross Overdrive?
-
To be fair, it's an extremely local big story for them.

Whoever's left at "WPMI" can please turn off the lights... Sounds like an eventual drawdown to essentially become a WEAR simulcaster at some point down the line.

Canada OH. MY. GOD. What a bloodbath Canada unexpectedly saw today. Rogers has shut down all-newsers CFFR Calgary, CKWX Vancouver, news/talkers CJNI Halifax, CKGL Kitchener, and Sportsnet Radio stations CFAC Calgary and CISL Vancouver. This leaves CFTR Toronto as the only all-news radio station left in the country and CJCL Toronto as one of two all-sports radio stations left (CKJR in nearby Edmonton being the other). https://calgary.citynews.ca/2026/07/07/rogers-sports-media-shutting-down-news-radio-stations-outside-toronto/

They are also running commercial breaks now so they do have some control of what is being shown on air. But it’s the only story they are covering.
-
Where are the graphics coming from? I assume no one was able to get into PIX Plaza just to set graphics up Also this rain could cause issues for the situation, hopefully the rain doesn't make the bldg stop shifting again. Update: at 5:02, it seems like they don't have a reference of time since the anchor on scene thinks it's still before 5 "approaching 5 o'Clock"
-
So much for Nexstar’s statement that it is committed to news. Making it difficult isn’t commitment to anything but the bottom line.
-
Fortunately it's only 72 degrees in Midtown, Manhattan today with a low chance of rain. Had this been last week during the scorching temperatures, or in the dead of winter, the situation would have been worse. PIX his back to imposing Nexstar's five minute only preview of their live stream. It was unrestricted during earlier breaking coverage. On top of that, the time it takes for a commercial to play is also counted against the preview. Dan is getting his overtime today!

Summer vacations? She’s familiar with the software and the traffic reporting service.

ABC 7 Eyewitness News thread
Encore 323 replied to bogusabc7breakingnews's topic in Los Angeles News
With a heatwave coming to Southern California, KABC has decided to launch something called “Weather Change Alerts” and I guess anytime the weather makes a sudden change, they will issue this alert. It seems like they are trying to rip off CBS LA and their “Next Weather Alerts” but hopefully KABC is truly doing this for the benefit of the viewer and not just because another station in town is doing something similar.
