say no more….I see where you’re going there with KMSP, it’s more white, grey and chrome. From its Brick lofty studio look, the new KSWB set is slowly making its debut. Right now the Promo for their July 4th Big Bay just dropped from the new studio. Seen in the photo attached you can see a circular anchor desk. Instead of a real surfboard that they currently have in their studio, they have 3 stenciled out surfboards covering a tv monitor.

I definitely think if the intention was to promote someone to the 5pm permanently, it would have been done already, as mentioned, there's no point in delaying that. I think with Paramount trying to cut costs, keeping only 1 permanent anchor on the shows (Kristine) might be a way to save money (?), at the expense of viewers having to see a different anchor next to her at 5pm depending on the day. Kristine seems to be permanent at 6pm/11pm, and it was mentioned they are moving towards solo anchors. Originally she used to, but I don't think Kristine does the 8pm anymore (it seems to be Allen Devlin or Dick Brennan most nights). I think the theory of keeping the seat open for Maurice is interesting and I could see a situation where the Evening News removes 1 of its co-anchors, also to cut costs. On the weather front, Lonnie has now re-added the 6pm to his schedule, so he seems to do everything again weekdays, except for the 8pm; which has been Vanessa or Craig Allen. I do wonder how they will add Scott Padget into the mix.

I just realized that half of the 12 hours its airs news on weekdays is on Boston (6:30 and 7:30pm repeats of the 6 and 7pm news are on there too) with the other half on New England. So much for New England news when you don't even focus on the region half the time on weekdays. Either become Boston Cable News or just shut it down entirely. IMO, I'm on the latter. NBC damaged the channel too much for it to be saved. I wouldn't want Boston news if I lived in Pittsfield, Mass. or New Haven or even in Presque Isle, yet, NBC doesn't care. I've been very very fortunate to have watched NECN from the late 90s to the mid 2010s. IMHO, the golden era of the network was the 2000s. As I've said, Hearst was better at managing this channel than NBC ever has. Also, going into speculation territory here but, I think Hearst should reacquire 50% of the channel and hope that NBC will divest its other 50% to Gray since they own stations in 5 out of the 9 DMA's (only conflict would be Burlington but that's a minor thing). I know that will never happen but imagine if it did.

Agreed, and it was announced in August 2024 that Maurice was moving to the Evening News. Meaning they’ve had 10 months or more to make a decision. Very odd.

Definitely weird for them not to have picked a replacement as it's been about five months. Such a long gap makes it seem like they're hiring from outside, otherwise it should be easy to promote someone from within. I wonder if all the uncertainty around CBS/Paramount and the new CBS Evening News has them keeping a seat warm for Maurice just in case.

This is not a bad thing. Also, I'm guessing stations finally realized that a lot of viewers likely tune out after the weather forecast.

NECN isn't even on Spectrum here in my part of CT, so I haven't been able to watch it since we moved from NH over a year ago. I imagine Comcast not wanting to run newscasts from stations they don't own (Tegna's WCSH/WLBZ, Sinclair's WJAR, Nexstar's WWLHearst's WPTZ), but you'd think they'd at least run newscasts from their other New England-based station -- WVIT here in CT. To say nothing of, oh.... Telemundo Boston. Makes you wonder what would've happened if Hearst owned stations in more than just 4 of the 9 DMAs... I think streaming (via apps or the FAST services) is the closest they'll likely get anytime soon, especially since NBC Nonstop didn't work out in the long run.

I think that Kelly Clarkson ends her show in May 2026 that is when the contract is up in my opinion. Yeah, CBS should settle with Sony which Wheel & J going to HULU/Disney+ & Peacock for next day airing come the fall is a big blow to CBS.

Closest sister stations to there would be in Austin or San Antonio. Unless they have a studio or bureau in San Angelo?

Why didn't CBS buy WGNX when Tribune put the for sale sign up in 1999 or 2000 where it could be an CBS O&O sooner than now in my opinion. CBS ATL will be the dog station when it comes to news which is good news for WANF not being the dog station anymore. I don't think CBS has done well in Detroit, but I haven't seen the ratings for them when it comes to news for WWJ.

Boy is Nexstar reversing so much from the past two years. It sounds like a pause back in 2023 to figure out their streaming strategy before resuming within the past couple of months. Still a long way to go, yes. Still waiting for the KTVX/KUCW version on Roku.

It needs to end and that's from someone who has LOVED and ADORED NECN. It hasn't been the same since their Hearst days when the channel was much more managed and ACTUALLY focused on New England stories compared to just Boston. Today, NECN only airs news on weekdays. Weekends is mainly focused on lifestyle programs, outside of weekend mornings and even then, hours were crap. The last regional newscasts are 7-10, 11-11:30am, 12-2 and 3-4pm. WBTS' news are airing from 5-7am, 2-3, 4-6:30, and 7-7:30pm. So much for New England news... New England is a VERY UNIQUE region and it did deserve its own regional cable news channel. It sucks that NBC ruined it and I hope that NBC doesn't get into the 24-hour local news game ever again (and I'm not talking about streaming).

For anyone who remembers or is still interested in the work of TVbD (Television by Design), I can probably answer most questions. I was one of the original members that started the company after leaving WTBS. I've only just noticed your incoming links to the TVbD Vimeo page, so apologies for the late response. I'm recently retired and have been exploring the idea of producing a feature length documentary about the work of TVbD in particular, and/or the history of motion graphic design in general. I'd be curious to know what this community thinks of the idea, and if there might be potential collaborators here. Thanks for the mentions and the memories.
