WVEC news from February 1997

First on TVNT Three television stations in the northwestern US are being sold. Frontier Radio Management/Jason Wolff is selling KPVI and KXTF in Idaho and KVIQ in Eureka, CA, and their dependent LPTVs, to Michigan-based NBI Holdings, which is owned by Brian Brady. Wolff will maintain a minority interest in the licensees of the stations. There does not seem to be a purchase price; rather, Wolff is hoping that Brady can aid in paying the stations' third-party debt and performing capital improvements. (See KVIQ application) A company owned by the buyer and seller is in the process of buying WABG Greenwood, MS.

I don't know if it's been mentioned that John Ralston who lost his show when Sinclair bought KSNV is now an NBC News Politcal Analyst. As a side note I'm actually watching broadcast TV syndication of Rizzoli & Isles for the first time on WBAL at 0230 Sunday and 0300 Monday. Normally I watch BBC World News at this time and the local ad breaks for this show were promos.

KJRH in Tulsa has a new morning anchor team starting tomorrow. Daniel Winn (previously of KRCG and KMIZ) and Taniya Wright (formerly of WHAG) will join current anchor Max Resnik, who becomes breaking news anchor. Can we not do this, please? Robin is the most beloved on the main team, and it never crossed anyone's mind on the staff and this forum on whether or not she would leave. No one wants to say anything here until the time she makes it official.

The PPL Center studio is located in Downtown Allentown and operated remotely from the main control room at WFMZ's broadcast facilities on top of South Mountain. Literally, the only people in the PPL studio are the on-air talent. As for the "cheesy graphics" they are not seen unless you are on Center Square looking in the windows - only the lower half of the screens appear on air. Additionally, they not only use the studio for the noon broadcast daily but it is used during tie-in's to special events at the PPL Center (our new 10,000 seat arena). Hope that fills in some details.

Shiba Russell is now officially no longer with WNBC her bio is no longer up and her social media pages no longer contain "4NY"...wish her the best in the next stage of career.

To be fair I have only heard 2 or 3 people say they should get rid of George. But other then that I have never heard many complains about him. Someone on TVNewser said they should bring Josh back to GMA and have him replace George. but that not happening. But majority of people say Lara the problem. The few times I have watch GMA over last few years dhe did get on my nerves a bit and I can see where people coming from.

Other than Lara, everyone is great on the program. Wouldn't mind seeing her shown the door. The format and content of the show needs a drastic overhaul.

ABC is probably a little nervous right now. Some say they should replace is George many say Lara.

Sources tell me 11Alive is close to getting/naming Demarco's replacement as evening anchor. Jeff Hullinger been the interim evening anchor but also is currently serving as Sports Director after Fred Kalil left for CBS46 last yr. Also note they are not going in house for the replacement, not much in house talent away for an Weeknight Anchor
