In a recent reply, I shared a video containing three Atlanta TV news opens from 1976 (WSB, WAGA and WXIA). Now, there is another video to be shared. We take you back to April 22, 1984 where WSB-TV opened its newscast. The news team at the time were John McKnight and Jill Becker on news, Ernie Johnson on sports and Dan Atkinson with weather. The theme they used was Gari's "Newschannel" theme package. But wait, there's more. We take you to 1994 where we view both WGPR (now WWJ-TV, CBS) and WJBK (now FOX). Watch at 6:22 where you can view a portion of a Steve Antoniotti editorial aired on WJBK that details the station's FOX affiliation plans which included FOX's national favorites and more news.2 points

I think it's Rob's to lose (if not, Ravi), though I am surprised he didn't get the 5, instead. He has pretty solid chemistry with Cheryl, and I think there's a big risk of totally turning over the 4 within like a year (Alan now, Linda later), especially with new competition. Alan would've maintained stability in that slot, but I do understand keeping his daily airtime to only 90 minutes. Fun fact: In his career with ABC 7, Alan has helmed 6 different "broadcasts". He was entrusted to launch two of them, the morning news and the midday webcast. And now, he has the right to say that he has succeeded John Drury, Floyd Klaber, Joel Daly, and Ron Magers, considered 4 of the very best to ever grace Chicago television screens. No pressure. Well deserved.2 points

Although Suki may very well be a big factor of their low ratings, ratings were high during her early regime, with John Muller, at least from what I remember. I believe they were even beating WNYW at a time (before Rosanna and Greg established chemistry and credibility.) Scott is well liked, and has a fun personality, and has worked with Suki before, so I don't think this is a bad experiment. However, if a year from now, and the ratings are still low, if Suki isn't shown the door or demoted I don't know what to say. Craig and Kala are really good on the weekends, and they're a pretty solid hard news anchor team. However, they are both adapted to mornings in the past, so they'll probably enjoy the change back. As for the Kori Chambers thing, I don't see that working out. I don't think he'll be good solo, and is honestly "Ok" as an anchor. I'm one of the few who tuned in nightly on the weekends to watch Kala and Craig, and formerly Kaity (since they were a really good team in my honest opinion), Kori Chambers just isn't going to do it for me. I think he should get a co-anchor; I was going to say Lisa Mateo, but I think she enjoys doing entertainment fluffy stories in the morning. I think Kirstin Cole might work out, however if they wanted to try that. Even newbie reporter Shirley Chan used to anchor in CT, so if they wanted to give the weekend gig to her I don't see why not. As far as weeknights are concerned, Brenda and Kaity need expanded roles. Tamsen and John have too much airtime, what WABC does seems to work (mashing up their evening anchors). Tamsen and John should stay at 5pm, because that pulls in good numbers. I think at 6pm for the hour we should have Kaity and Brenda, and at 10pm Kaity and John. They can make always Tamsen a featured in-studio reporter for the 10:00 too. If the 6:30 show doesn't work out and pull in numbers, then maybe they should scrap that and invest those resources in a weekend morning newscast or midday newscast. As far as sports is considered, I really feel like the whole PIX11 sports desk thing was created specifically for Scott. Now that Andy will basically be taking charge of that department, they maybe should think about just doing regular sports; or revert back to just having the Sports Desk on Friday nights. I guess that means either Dyrol Joyner or Joe Mauceri will take over the weekend sports. One thing is for sure- Scott's sure going to miss messing with G every night!2 points

That WGPR-CBS promo with the solar eclipse is similar to . The irony is rich... "CBS is bigger than ever" on a high channel number and it's going "where no network has gone before". When I wrote a New World at 20 piece titled "62's a Pretty Big Number", I didn't know that promo existed! WGPR was about to undergo arguably the biggest metamorphosis of all the new network affiliates. What a strange lineup they had to have had at this time with these local shows and the CBS network programming! The WJBK switch promo is pretty cool and is similar in tone (not entirely) to the one KSAZ did.1 point

Not to mention that by this August (for reasons already stated in the WHDH losing NBC thread), they'll also own the largest non-O&O NBC affiliate (WXIA), which effectively means they'll own the largest non-O&O affiliates of 3 of the big 4 networks. And even if they were to sell WFAA, they still have their 3 flagships, one of which is TEGNA's DC bureau. And Gannett is a pure-play newspaper business (digital newspapers more than ever) now.1 point

To be fair, if Ron had said the WGN Morning News sucked, WGN's PR people would have used that in a newspaper ad as well.1 point

i'd say ron sould sue beacuse that does not equal consent allowing them to pluck his words from a radio show1 point

I hadn't heard that. It's a shame it didn't work out. He'd a be good fit at any of the major networks, and a heck of a lot better than some of the even younger pretty people currently moving up the broadcast ranks.1 point

It'll be interesting to see who they go with for the 4pm. They have Ravi, Rob and Hosea all as prime targets for the 4pm. Yes, it'll be Alan & Kathy at 6 & 10 and Cheryl and Alan at 5pm. http://abc7chicago.com/careers/abc7s-ron-magers-to-retire;-alan-krashesky-to-anchor-10-pm-newscast/1291527/1 point

Well, that more or less confirms a new graphics package for the O&O's. Now I wonder if they will all roll it out at the same time.1 point

WSMV in Nashville used This is Home by Switchfoot in a previous campaign a year or so ago, but they've now added This is Home from Warner Chappell. It looks like they're officially going to go deeper into this image campaign, judging by what the producer posted in the description on his YouTube channel. He called this their "kickoff spot!"1 point

Mary had been fired along with Sue Ann Nivens, Lou Grant, and Murray Slaughter in 1977. Glad to see Ted take the buyout, he should have been the one fired all those years ago!1 point

I hope so. I miss Linda filling-in at 6. I also miss her occasional fill-ins at 10 so I hope that resumes as well. To me, it doesn't get any better than seeing Ron, Linda, Jerry, and Mark together. So good, so Chicago.1 point
