  1. Damn. This does suck. He was great on GMA when they actually let him on TV and I prefer him over Michael almost a thousand times over.

  2. Personally, I prefer just to start the newscast with no headlines at all.

  3. They need to get rid of Michael or at least reassign him.

  4. I think KPNX is still the #1 station in the market. When TEGNA was Gannett, they have WSVN-ified their graphics and music before in 2008. That did not affect KUSA's ratings, and it might not have affected WTSP's ratings, either. The rest of the Gannett stations' ratings might also not have been affected. KARE was nice enough to keep their existing music, and KUSA was nice enough to keep their existing graphics on their teases (until 2012) and talent opens (also until 2012), and their existing music on their talent opens (until 2012) and closes (until February 2009). Gannett called themselves as being nimble at one point according to an old Gannett website. It said so on the first page of the company's annual report. Qwest also called themselves as being nimble through their slogan from 2010 until they were integrated into CenturyLink in 2011: "Get Qwest. Get Nimble". That was after they retired their "Spirit of Service" campaign, which they used from 2002-2008. Do you think TEGNA is still nimble, and how can that be compared to CenturyLink? As for the ratings in the Phoenix area, Scripps-owned KNXV is the number 2 station in the market.

  5. New M&A. And to me, this is pretty big. KCSG in Utah is getting sold. The buyer, you would not believe it but I kid you not. It's Weigel Broadcasting for $1.1M. This is the very first time they have acquired a station outside of the markets they've served.

  6. It was fascinating to note that Lori Stokes and Sandra Bookman were paired for the very first time last week on the anchor desk. How is it possible that they haven't worked together in nearly 20 years?

  8. #MeanwhileInPhoenix... how much 7 Boston/Miami have they been watching? Ugh.

  10. CBS This Morning's graphics changes, particularly the lower-thirds, constantly seem to be an evolution rather than a huge change. Interesting how the elements aren't connected... Reminds me of CNN. Now the text is centered. I'm not a fan of how the angle on the right side of the lower-third, as rkolsen pointed out, seems to be random. It never seems to "go" with the CBS bug at all. (Also, is the bug necessary when it's already in the CBS This Morning logo on the left side?) I do like how the lower-thirds continue to treat names/titles differently than the rest of the text they display, with the colors from the top and bottom elements swapping for people. I also like how they continue to have a different color scheme for politics (and, presumably, breaking news).

  11. The Yakima fire inspector filed an appeal about a reprimand letter from the city, the South Korean president has been assassinated and 250 Washingtonians are there on a tour, and Ellensburg will get a major clothing manufacturer. That and more in KAPP's Actionews...for October 26, 1979!
