1. The deal was cleared by the DOJ today. Scripps is expected to close the Katz deal by October 2.

 2. WWOR is basically a parking lot with few noted shining rims. It's basically a subchannel, even if they can't move into WNYW's subs due to COL requirements, I believe. Mind you, Chasing was relocated to 11pm for 'Family Feud' hour reruns. 'Some bad game show' you may be talking about is the limited summer test run, 'Iwitness', produced by Judge Judy.

 4. >woah-d'oh!< Where's my Dramamine? Is that supposed to be a newscast, or a bad amusement ride? >ugh< #nightmarenews If that's all I've got to choose from, I'll stick to the stills and articles on the website.

 7. Yes. Some poor promotions producer probably spent two hours putting it together-- and after all that, the lead story is a meaningless preseason NFL game (Yes, I understand KPNX aired the game).

 8. KSTF used to have news programs, later changed to inserts and eventually phased out. So this is not a "new" service historically speaking. Scottsbluff viewers get a KGWN satellite, a KNOP satellite, and a KOTA satellite, plus the Nebraska PBS state network. Fox is not available OTA but KLWY claims Scottsbluff. That is essentially its own market. Yeah, we need a redraw of the DMAs here.

 9.
I can't give you any specifics, unfortunately, but I can definitely tell you it was not a custom NBC piece...
I worked at an NBC affiliate back during this period and never heard that much of the theme in the clear. @Ntropolis in your first clip, I hear a custom NBC logo built into the end under the anchor. Perhaps the composer added that for NBC to use it. I have a guess over the composer/company and two reasons why I believe it. I bet it's a Craig Palmer (Tuesday Prod/Network Music) theme. Why? (1) The station used two packages from Tuesday during the mid 80's through the mid 90's. The open and close to the newscast @ChesapeakeTV linked to uses News 88... (2) the two bumpers don't appear to be from News 88, but are similar in that they use a triangle instrument loop in the background. That sound is featured in a lot of Tuesday's work. Anyhoooo, I think it was a great pensive, haunting, dramatic cut that prepared the viewer for a rough and tumble, crime-filled newscast to follow and not so pleasant dreams! :D
