Has anybody seen this yet? WFAA w/ 'Cool Hand Luke': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=4diXvz767vM;m=4;s=425 points

It's in DX quality, but still better than nothing, a news open from KTIV from 1999 with Mark Haffner's On Your Side:3 points

This occurred recently. It wasn't there last week. My parents live in the area, so I check out the website to see what their weather is like, and to make sure that they haven't been thrown in jail.3 points

Maybe it may catch those who just get home from work/caught in traffic but I think it would do better if it was more than just a rebroadcast. I remember when KFWD used to air rebroadcasts of WFAA as well as when KPXD aired rebroadcasts of KXAS....I don't think it'll register much more than a slight blip.2 points

WNCN rebrands to CBS 17. I always thought that's what they should have been called after the affiliation swap with WRAL, not "CBS North Carolina". http://www.cbs17.com/news/cbs-north-carolina-rebrands-as-cbs-17/10482208232 points

He seemed to be a secondary voice to Ed Hopkins throughout the 90s. I seem to recall him on a few more promos. A bonus: The Upstate Ford Dealers ad at 1:02 is voiced by longtime WRGB anchor Ernie Tetrault. I've watched this video several times and I always thought it was Brandon Brooks, currently of KYW radio. Both were there around the same timeframe and seemed a bit similar in terms of presentation and looks. That said, WTAJ in 1986 with the aforementioned Brandon Brooks, at 1:25 teasing some high school basketball highlights some guy named Rodger Wyland would have. What I would give for a pre-summer 1986 WTAJ weekend newscast to surface. Not only did Wyland do sports at that time but their weekend anchor was another name familiar to Albany viewers: Phil Bayly.2 points

Someone posted an idea for a "sports classic video" thread on the shoutbox a few days ago. I like the idea, but I wanted to expand it a little bit. The focus of the existing classic video thread is on news and broadcast TV stations. This is, essentially, "everything else". Premium cable promos, MTV "vidchecks", sports promos and graphics, everything within reason. Obviously let's not post full game shows or compilations of production company logos. So! I'll start with three examples of the above. I had, like, five examples of premium cable promos but I ultimately went with this one. Why? I think mid-80s Movie Channel stuff is underrated. The theme music is great and the movie open is fantastic, and it's interesting to see bits of a channel that never quite found a niche. (Even a rebrand effort from the great Fred Seibert and Alan Goodman didn't really quite take off.) Here's a nice and long MTV "vidcheck" from 1982. For those who don't quite get the concept, it's sort of similar to a "scoped aircheck" of a radio station. In other words, the songs are more or less removed (well, most of them - there's enough to let you know what the song is), but everything else isn't. So this is the VJ banter, commercials, and promos from that era. It's interesting to note how tame it is in comparison to how MTV was later in the decade. The formatics are very, very similar to radio. Lots of VJ segments, lots of promos, pretty high on the music content (and before I get the obligatory "well, duh, this is when they actually played music" comments, I want to stress that this is in comparison to how they were much later in the decade, when there were much more commercials, promos, and news breaks.) Ok, so "full sports broadcast" might not exactly be "within reason" but bear with me here. I wanted to spotlight the 1993-95 ABC Sports look, and the best way to do it was with this, a full bowling telecast from 1993. Cheesy Professional Bowlers Tour theme song aside, this look has aged like fine wine. I've mentioned ABC Sports' theme music from this period many, many times... but I'm going to mention it again because it is simply my favorite piece of television production music. Period. But I also wanted to note the graphics, which is why I'm posting this in full. Like I said, it's aged like fine wine. With a few adjustments you could be using these today - and more or less, Fox Sports IS using these graphics today. The resemblance is striking. I'll take crisp and clean graphics like these over overdone gloss and dancing robots any day of the week.1 point

He ended up coming back and doing local news cut-ins on an AM radio station here in the 2000s.1 point

I believe Dewey Hopper ended up at both KTSP and KTVK in the two years between leaving KPNX and arriving in Sacramento.1 point

You're right. KDFI will air rebroadcast of FOX 4 News at 6 at 7pm. You know, it just came up after reading the comment. I remember after the network switch here in D/FW in the summer of '95, KDFW used to simulcasts their 9pm and/or 10pm news on KDFI.1 point

I think they are also setting up the heir apparent for Stan as well. He’s probably the same age or older as Donna but may stick around. They are definitely grooming Andre for his spot as he anchors the 5:30pm with Donna and is the primary fill in. I believe there have been more newscasts with Debra/Andre in the past two months than I have fingers/toes on the primary channel. I know some mentioned Mindy as Donna’s replacement but I don’t think they want to mess with the morning show. I believe they win most half hours except for one. Also at this point I think Jason and Mindy are a paired duo. Yet despite the changes they remained dominant.1 point

CBS North Carolina never really sounded right anyway because it was just too bland (this was the branding WNCN should've went to when they switched to CBS in 2015)1 point

I fail to see the improvement. Even with the MG acquisition, Nexstar is getting cheaper and cheesier. The micromanagement from Irving sticks out like a sore thumb on the Nexstar station in my neck of the woods.1 point

Same logo as WSPA as well. I wonder if a rebranding of WNCT is coming? Also by calling it CBS North Carolina, they would have had to get WFMY (at times rumored) and WBTV (not going to happen unless they make a trade for it) to complement it.1 point
