  1. The weather team has debuted a podcast. The first episode went up more than a week ago, and they're not yet promoting it, so I'd say it's still in soft-launch mode. The thumbnail/icon likely gives another tease at the new graphics I've been speculating about for more than a year. I listened to the first episode, and while it's not the most technical discussion (which is probably a good thing), the meteorologists are able to dive into stuff that doesn't fit into the 1-3 minute windows they have on the newscasts. "Our expert ABC7 meteorologists walk you through weather phenomena, the ins and outs of the weather industry, and give you a detailed look at how weather affects the world around us." http://abc7chicago.com/weather/abc7-chicago-podcasts/3247467/

  2. Sad news today, Former KYW and KPNX anchor Vince Leonard has passed away yesterday in his home in Las Vegas. Vince started as an anchor at KYW-TV in 1958 back when the call letters were WCRV. Vince left the station in 1980 to join KPNX and retired from the news business in 1989. Vince Leonard was 92. Prayers and Condolences goes out to Vince Leonard's family. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/former-philly-anchor-dies-at-92/202633

  8. So WGN is already part of a vast right wing conspiracy now? C'mon. Heaven forbid they run any story which showcases a different viewpoint, since people will flip out on social media. Sinclair's executive board is not watching WGN's every move. They do not own the station. Of course WGN management is going to try to downplay the impending merger. While I agree with the sentiment of Hoover's tweet, and I could not see any anchor at WGN reading such a canned and inauthentic statement, it's probably not the best idea to talk about future bosses like that in public. I think Paul Rennie, Jen Lyons, etc. are trying to protect their people by telling them to keep their (legitimate) concerns on the DL. At least don't tweet them out. On the other hand, if they start to embrace Sinclair with open arms, Twitter will demand an immediate boycott of the station and all of its advertisers. So the play is to stay quiet and continue with business as usual. I've seen a lot of calls to preemptively boycott WGN because of this deal, because people have read some hot takes about Sinclair online, but are unwilling to wait and see how much their news product actually changes, and make their own judgement. I might be the only one, but I'm starting to get tired of the constant speculation and fear-mongering regarding this deal. Feder brings it up every other week it seems, but really only offers "what-ifs" and ominous predictions. Is that really helpful?

  10. He gets no kudos from me. He was lucky enough to work for a GM who was just as ineffective as he was. Then when she bails, so does he. Couldn’t even wait until a new GM is named or, at the very least, a month before leaving. Quite the leader he is.

  12. I'd like to point out two things about KRIV FOX26 news sets. For one thing, that KRIV set looked similar to the news set used by sister station WNYW FOX5 New York. Secondly, I noticed FOX26 done its own version of the Newsmat set, the chroma-keyed green screen new set used by rival station KTRK ABC13 in the 1980s.

  13. Are those CBS and ABC clips the West Coast feeds of the evening news? The assassination of King occurred after the evening news would have concluded on the East Coast. Perhaps the Dan Rather clip was the SR for the East Coast stations.

  14. Which is good because neither one of those Nexstar website names makes any sense, so I think that's one of the changes that we've seen out of Nexstar post-MG merger but still got a long way to go but, it's baby steps that we're taking

  15. Well if you think about it, Nexstar has been renaming its websites after call letters now so WOODTV.com is not going away, anytime soon, neither don't expect MyWestMichigan.com or WestMichiganNOW.com to come on board.

  19. Lester is universally respected among a lot of viewer and the NBC staff and a stalwart for the network, he is the go to guy and has all the qualifications. You can't just get someone without there being a backlash. There is really nobody at NBC that qualifies to be an evening news anchor. If Lester decides to leave, there are networks that are willing to hire him in a heart beat. NBC just has to manage Lester better by giving him better bookings and more access to various projects and let him become a managing director. He s very rounded where he can various forms of news and genres, yet he is given one dimensional position at Nightly News. Let Lester interview various people besides just politicians, have him do special assignments for Nightly News. For example, a trip through heartland America or an exploration through China.

  22. Speaking of The National, that was also the name of a short-lived flagship newscast on Australia's ABC in the mid-1980s. You may recognize the music from Channel 4 in the UK or KTSP in '80s Phoenix: Brisbane had its own edition, presumably because Queensland did not observe Daylight Saving Time:
