1. God, the first- and second-generation Hearst(-Argyle) stuff has aged so badly. I'm sure it looked worse than what it replaced in a lot of cases too. WBAL had to junk their perfectly good Cordova package after, what, a year?

 2. @rkolsen thanks for getting the images of Sinclair's HQ. I will say this about them..yes they are cheap on one end of the spectrum..but it is nice to see that they are trying to still be innovative on the engineering side of the house. I know here in Doha, I have passed by the Al Jazeera/bein Media Group's HQ which is a massive gated off compound..but good job.

 3. I know change is inevitable but I really miss Channel 13 of the old days when I was younger. Seems like the last few years have seen questionable decision after questionable decision but maybe data is showing something different. To their credit I will say Mayra and Chauncy are a really strong weekend AM crew.

 4.
@Ramona When in ‘95 did KPHO debut its final “Arizona 5” logo and News on the Hour? It definitely was after December 1994, but there’s no material on YouTube from 1995 for KPHO: Plus what’s laughable is how modern their “Fresh News” graphics looked yet their quality and news presentation was so dated and done to death.
Probably September 11, 1995, when the set is known to have debuted. That was also when Seinfeld replaced MASH as the 10:05 show on KPHO. (The station had bought the syndication rights before CBS entered the picture.)

 6. Okay. Follow-up. Someone uploaded this. This is from KETV. They're also will be airing GMA Day at 11am/CT on Monday. I know I said earlier it was doubtful, but now I wouldn't be all that surprise if the network supply an earlier 12pm/ET feed for these stations (WBRZ & sister station KRGV; along with KETV). And should that be the case, this would be the first time since Port Charles that the network supplied an earlier feed for one of their daytime shows.

 7. The I doubt the logo was changed with the express purpose of attracting the 21-54 demographic, but I'm sure that played a part. "Young people don't watch local television" is exactly the kind of thing they would be trying to change with a "hip" new logo/brand. This isn't the first time this debate has come up about a TV station logo. I'm kind of getting tired of it. I don't think a lot of people on here understand the "usual" process that happens with this kind of change, especially when it comes to large markets and large broadcast companies like Scripps (who LOVES to research and focus group everything they can.) A logo change could stem from dozens of carefully researched problems a station is facing. If ratings are down, maybe it's time to conduct market research. Maybe the market research shows that the ol' reliable "classic" logo from 1973 isn't memorable after all amongst any age group. Maybe only senior citizens can remember what the "circle 5" logo means. Maybe they're even shown the old logo and a new logo next to each other, and asked: "which of these TV channels would you rather watch?" I've seen (older) market research before, and it can even include showing people photos of talent and asking them who they are and what station they're on. It may shock you, but quite often people can't match a name to the face or a name/face to a station. And then comes the focus groups. They might be shown the same news clips with different logos/bugs and, days later, asked which logo they remember seeing. People tend to remember more simple things, which is why most brand logos are pretty simple. Market research is a science. There are big research companies that do this every day. Just because an old logo works on one station, doesn't mean that it's a universal fact that all viewers love classic logos. Changing the logo back to the Circle 5 is not going to make ratings skyrocket, and I doubt anyone tuned out because the logo changed. This is going to sound weird, especially after all I just said, but the vast majority of people don't care about a TV station's logo. The real goal is to make them remember the logo and remember the station and make the gears in their head turn when they're at work the next day, talking about something they saw on TV. I will also argue that WISN has updated their logo several times over the years, changing the fonts and colors (and for a while, the angle) to keep up with the times.

 13. Oh you mean my avatar..one Mr. Cheatwood who created the greatness of 7 News back in 1989. Sir..sadly Mr. Cheatwood works for a competitor now since Scripps wouldnt take any of my ideas. I'll show them. [end sarcasm]

 15. If NBC were smart and brought back "The Lights" they would make it a challenger to CBS Sports HQ and that would be an instant for viewers like me who would rather see highlights on their phones than on TV and wait until they show highlights of their favorite sports or their favorite teams

 20. NBC should try to keep the NHL the next time the contract is up, plus try to get a piece of the MLB contract. If they can't get any of the college football conferences, try to build on their ivy league conference deal. I think that they should air more than the 4-5 games they have been doing the past few seasons for college football. For college basketball, build on their CAA & Atlantic 10 conference deal. I heard they used to air 60 games for Atlantic 10, but now only 25 games. Why not try to add more games with their current deal? If NBC really wanted to expand their presence into sports, they would have put more money and outbid the other networks into getting more popular sports properties. It seems like they are only doing enough to have a minimum presence, which in my view does not make sense if you want to have a network devoted to sports. If all they want is to have a minimum presence in the sports industry, they don't need a sports network. They can easily spread the sports programming that they have across the several cable networks that they own. Put the bulk of the programming weekends on CNBC. Put whatever other sports programming that they have during the week on CNBC primetime or USA Network, or Bravo Network or Oxygen Network. Otherwise, they should put the programming that they have during the week for sports on Golf channel, If NBC does go ahead and spend more money on sports in the future, they should go ahead and rename the Golf Channel NBCSN 2, since they will have more of a presence in the sports industry. As mentioned earlier, if they do spend more money and do those suggestions posted earlier, they should have enough programming to spread across two networks for most of the year, especially on the weekends. During the weekday, the NBCSN feed should show sports related programming. the NBCSN2 feed should show a newly created sports feed that NBC develops that will air most of the day. They should use the strategy they have developed for CNBC and MSNBC in terms of giving their talent on air time to talk specifically about sports related stuff throughout the day and into the evening if there are not enough sports events for them to cover. This would be the strategy CNBC and MSNBC has with there talent discussing the topics of business and politics during the day on their respective networks.

 21.
Phoenix-area coverage of Decision '96: Election Night. It starts with KPNX/NBC, but we eventually get to see the other stations. There's not much KNXV, which has gone toward its tabloid appearance. KSAZ has instituted the Fox 10 name and the "Fox News 10" logo (that was soon revised). KTVK has an Arizona Lottery drawing at 1:56:40. Jim Howl struggles to read "Consejo Latino de Salud" — he would leave within a couple of years. KPHO is in its mid-late 90s newsroom set. At 2:12:33 is a promo for Arizona 5 News at 5 and 6, read by Scott Chapin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu9i8AeYAl8 And here's a KNTV newscast from 1992: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AYscPD01Cw
@Ramona When in ‘95 did KPHO debut its final “Arizona 5” logo and News on the Hour? 23. Doug left in 1994 retired. Angela Pace had left CMH for BNS in 1992 and Doug/Colleen worked for a hot minute. Colleen was on the weekends until Angela left. Gail Hogan was on LIVE at FIVE & 5:30 LIVE. Cabot Rea, had been with the station a long time and took over for Doug Adair. Cabot, was weeknight main anchor from 1994-2016 (22 Years) but had a total 31 years at CMH. Colleen still going and she been there since 1987. 31 years total. Jerry Revish as been at BNS for 38 years.
