  4. Was wrong about him possibly heading back to 10TV but nothing else. After the Wolfes folded ONN’s operations in 2012, many former ONN anchors/reporters went over to 10TV. Eric was their weekend meteorologist until 2015. No one said anything about demotion.

  6. If affiliates wanted to program an extra hour in the morning that badly, the 4th hour of Today wouldn't exist or it would be optional. I'm not sure why people on here think the affiliates want an extra hour of time to fill in the mornings. They don't. That hour has always belonged to the network. Before the 4th hour of Today, it was the Soap Opera "Passions". Believe me, the network wouldn't have decided on this without input from the Affiliates. Input that went "No, please fill that for us, we don't want to fill it ourselves."

  7. I heard that they have Kelly Clarkson's show in the running, maybe her show should take over. I don't dig Jenna Bush Hager nor should she get it cause she robs the space of others cause who she is related to. She will be a turn off to a lot of viewers especially in the hyperpolitcal environment. They should get Sheinelle Jones, she was a big deal in Philly, did very real doing the same format. Sheinelle deserves it, she has been there for a while and she is professional. Sheinelle can help bring in more diverse viewership and make up for it in NBC letting Tamron Hall go. I think Sheinelle Jones should get it.

  8. WXTV Noticias 41 news brief, circa 2000 "Siempre Presente", a slogan used by WXTV from the late 1990s to early 2000s. Also used by other Univision stations at the time.

  9. The Giant Octopus graphics are my favorite era of 10TV, mainly the 1996 opens with the theme that’d later be used for WFOR and the scrolling county names, and the 1998 open (first with TiYN) with the scrolling “wbns columbus ohio” and chopper shots of downtown.

  10. Oh goodness... that would be a loss. Lots of Hampton Roads material in his collection. But yeah, as stated above, his channel shouldn’t be monetized. If he is using it as a source of income, perhaps he should set up a Patreon or something. I’d consider contributing.

  12. In the mid-80s (about 1985?), WHTM actually updated to it. In '86 they were even still using the late 70s Times-Mirror stations theme (NMSA "KDFW 1979"). Even WETM used the same typeface, though we don't have any newscasts from the period when T-M still owned the station. (WSTM never seemed to, and then Elmira, Syracuse and Harrisburg were sold off in 1986.) KTVI seemed to never be part of any standardization. If they were, it might have been in late 1980-1981 (T-M did not own KTVI until 1980). That said, it's unclear quite what they were like between 1980 and 82 or so. In 1980, they dropped the NewsCenter 2 imaging they had been using. There's not much of that, but there's a demo reel from a graphics company with a KTVI 10pm open: In 1979, though, they hadn't yet adopted that logo (there's a snippet in the final second showing their set): Times-Mirror in general had more standardization than many groups in the 80s, especially early in the decade and then in the 1987-88 period. (The Yours Truly graphics package comes to mind.)

  17. Don't think I've seen a non NBC station use that NBC style of Helvetica in its Chyrons (the slightly expanded letters that were used on just about everything that originated in Burbank or NY for a while). I'm guessing it wasn't unique to NBC - they just used it a lot - from KNBC to Scrabble to NBC News to Late Night.

  18. Here's the tail-end of ABC's 1978 primetime election coverage, anchored by Frank Reynolds, followed by Fahey Flynn, Joel Daly, and the beginning of Eyewitness News at 10. Note the mention of the election of a new Arkansas governor, some young kid named Clinton. No word on what became of him. (WLS, 11/7/1980)

  20. Here’s a bit of WTKR on the derailment of the Norfolk & Western 611 in the Great Dismal Swamp in May 18, 1986. Anchors Betty Francis and Ross MacCallum. No open or music or anything on this clip, unfortunately. Would love to see more of WTKR during this period... this was months before going to the “Discover the Land of the 3” look.

  21. That really is incredible. The video's caption references it, but for those who didn't go to the YouTube page, third co-host Bob Kennedy, plucked from a successful morning show on WLS, died not long after this was recorded, and before AM America would debut. The show would launch with Bill Beutel, Stephanie Edwards, and news anchor (and third wheel) Peter Jennings.
